Shouldn't I Get More Credit?
Things That Annoy MeWarning: May be more offensive than the rest of the chapters, read at your own risk!
Okay I've noticed some people uploading some of their stories online, then stopping halfway just because they claimed that 'they weren't getting the target subscribers' or something along those lines. For me, I strongly believe that posting those stories online comes in the form of a hobby, and you should continue because it's something you enjoy to do, instead of something you do to gain a little fame. You shouldn't be discontinuing a story just because you weren't gaining enough recognition. If it was interesting, it would naturally attract the necessary audience. Maybe the storyline was used a lot of times and people just got bored of reading the same thing over and over again, which means you can't discount yourself just yet! This is enough of a reason for you to continue writing; because each story is different and will get at least one's attention. So even if it was just that one, I personally think that it is worth it, because you know that you still have someone rooting for you.
For those who feel discouraged, I want to take this chance to ask you to carry on! Just because your story isn't receiving the recognition it deserves, doesn't give you a reason to give up! Take it as a learning experience and as a chance to improve on your writing.
However, for those who stopped because (I quote) "there are too few subscribers and upvotes to my story" when there are clearly more compared to other stories, no one really cares. (I'm going to hell for this) As blunt as it sounds, no one gives a damn about whether you're going to continue or not if yours is the kind where you have to go around asking for people to read it.
I'm not saying that it's wrong to try to get more people to read your stories. In fact, I respect those authors who do that as they're willing to put down their pride to garner more views for their stories and they are not afraid to face rejection.
What annoys me is that when you get people in, please don't ever halt halfway. (Those with personal issues is another story altogether) To me, it is plain disrespectful because people actually heed your recommendation and gave your story a chance but you just throw all those chances away. In all honesty, if writing is your passion, you shouldn't be using it to gain fame and stop when you're not getting enough.
I had one example once, someone asked me to read a story of hers and asked for some advice (if you're wondering, I mentioned her in chapter 4. Yes, she's the same one) but chooses to report my comment when I took the time and effort to read through every word and list out the things to improve on. Okay, fine, I let that go and moved on with life. I didn't unsubscribe (I used my other account) to the story even when she did that, because I feel that by unsubscribing, I'm taking a chance away from her and that's not very fair. Do you know what happened in the end though? She stopped writing one day because of the petty reason I mentioned above, leaving all the subscribers hanging. Well you know what? The plot doesn't even make sense anyway and I already lost interest after reading the first few chapters. And everything was just adorned with grammar and spelling mistakes. So what gave her the right to complain about not having enough subscribers? Absolutely nothing.
Now I'm not saying that I'm the best writer out there, I may even be one of the worst, but at least I know how to treat people, and basic respect. I'm sorry for losing it, I don't know, I just get extremely agitated when it comes to these topics because of the experiences I went through. I'm also sorry to the one I was complaining about because I shouldn't have defamed someone. I don't regret it though, at least I have removed a great burden off my chest now.
I'm done raging, so let's move on to something else. (Why do I have a feeling that I'm going to get bashed by some of the readers? I don't mind though, because I know that I may have offended some of you, so I accept whatever you have in store for me)
I've noticed that some of the comments are actually pretty insightful, so I may compile the comments and from time to time maybe create chapters dedicated to the comments I think are interesting! So you guise have to leave more comments okay? I'll credit every single comment I add in!
If you have any other issues you wanna bring up, lemme know in the comments or you can pm me in the messages if you wanna have a chapter/topic all to yourself (I’ll credit you!). Ciao!
