“Speling”
Things That Annoy MeWell, I think you can guess what I’m going to rant about in this update.
Yep, you guessed right!
Spelling.
Did you ever read a fanfic that had a really good storyline but it had a dang lot of spelling mistakes?
Well, I have, and I cringe whenever I see one of those mistakes, even if it’s minor. Like seriously, do you not feel turned off when you read a story decorated with spelling mistakes?
Would it really take up a lot of time to proofread the stories written?
Yes, I know. I’m not perfect, I make mistakes as well (though very little as Microsoft Word does spelling checks for me), and I would certainly get irritated if a reader corrects every of my small errors, which is why I don’t usually comment saying “Hey this chapter has these mistakes, go correct them”, especially if there are only a few mistakes in the whole story.
What’s worse is that some of the words are spelled wrong not because of some typo error, but because the author doesn't know how to spell the word in the first place. In my belief, if you don't know how to spell the word, don't ever use it. And if you really want to use it, at least have the decency to check the meaning and spelling of the word before writing it in. This can seriously improve the overall presentation of the story.
Examples (based on real cases):
Their in the bedroom. Silly girls, leaving they’re phones in the living room.
Corrected version: They’re in the bedroom. Silly girls, leaving their phones in the living room.
Okay, so a while ago I saw this post on 9gag.com and someone said that if every time you wanna use the internet, and it asks you this (not exact):
Fill in the blank.
_______ swimming in the pool.
A) Their
B) They’re
C) There
There would be so many who wouldn't be able to use the internet.
If you have any other issues you wanna bring up, lemme know in the comments or you can pm me in the messages if you wanna have a chapter/topic all to yourself (I’ll credit you!). Ciao!
