A Cheeky Phone Call

Body Language

A month had passed by the time that Eunmi realized that there was only a week left till she was to be finally married. She sighed as she threw herself onto her bed covering her face with her arm. She was exhausted and the past month did was not easy on her. She had mid-term after mid-term with several dress fittings and meetings with Jiho’s mother and the wedding planner and to add to all this stress, her father had become worse towards her. Her body needed and wanted sleep, but time would not allow her.

She groaned as she dug herself deep into her bed and threw her comforter over her head. It was Friday, late afternoon. She had just finished school and just wanted to sleep. Nothing was due and life was good. She sighed again in content, stretching her toes and then rolling up into a ball finally letting sleep envelope her. As she was about to tip into the dark abyss of sleep, she heard the faint yet annoying buzz of her cellphone vibrating. She groaned as she stuck her hand out of her warm cocoon and grabbed it. She answered it without opening her eyes, annoyed at who ever was disturbing her.

“Hello…” She said, her voice still husky with sleep.

“Hey, we’re you sleeping?” Said a distinct deep voice with a faint chuckle.

“How did you get my number?” Eunmi asked sitting up surprised. There was a chuckle on the other end of the line.

“Getting your number was actually really hard, so I’m not sharing.” Jiho said with another small laugh.

Eunmi sighed as she laid back in bed.

“What are you doing now?” He asked as he heard her sigh and then the shuffle of sheets. He somehow wished he were there with her, even though he had barely seen her this past month.

“Was sleeping, why?” She replied in a small quiet voice.

“Are you busy tonight?” He asked, avoiding her question.

“Yes.” Eunmi replied, sleep was ebbing its way back through her body.

“Hmm, what are you doing then?” He asked, his voice dropping from disappointment.

“Sleeping.” She replied with a small laugh. She heard Jiho give a small chuckle.

“Can I pick you up at 7? The boys are throwing me a party but I want you to meet them,” He replied.

“Why do you want me to crash your bachelor party?” Eunmi asked sitting up in bed and rubbing her eyes. She looked over at her clock and it read 3:34 PM. If she agreed she’d still have time to get ready.

“It’s not a bachelor’s party. I don’t need that anyways. Come… please?” he asked in a cute ageyo voice. Eunmi couldn’t help but smile at that.

“My father won’t allow me to leave, I’ve been under arrest this past week.” Eunmi added as she got out of bed and walked over to her cupboard. She scanned through her clothing eyeing her jeans and a wooly sweater.

“Got it covered. I asked him to take you to dinner last week and he agreed.” He stated and Eunmi could hear the smugness in his voice.

“Formal or casual?” She sighed with a small smile.

“Ah, look at my future wife – so obedient!” Jiho exclaimed with sarcasm. “Semi-formal. The majority of us will be guys.”

“Alright, alright. I’ll see you soon then.” Eunmi replied before hanging up.

So much for her catching up on sleep.

*

Jiho arrived at the house at 7 PM sharp. He got out of his car and rang the doorbell, and wiped his clammy palms on his black skinny jeans. The door was opened by one of the maids, and Jiho smiled kindly at her.

“Hi, I’m here to pick up Eunmi.” He said sweetly. The maid bowed and led him into one of the formal living rooms. She left, and Jiho was left standing, in the middle of the grand room, surrounded by a grand fireplace and couches that looked untouched. He stuck his hands in his tight jean pants and looked around.

He paused, when his eyes stopped on a large family portrait that hung above the fireplace. Jiho approached it with caution and froze when he saw who was there. There sat above the large fireplace was a picture of Eunmi and her family looking happy. He stared at Eunmi and her dimpled smile, one he had yet to see, and his heart clenched. He wondered how a happy looking family could be torn to pieces and become such a broken and tortious one.

“Don’t stare at it too long, it begins to stare back and mock.” Jiho whirled around quick with redden cheeks as he heard Eunmi’s quiet voice.

Jiho stared at her for a few seconds, drinking in how she looked. She was dressed in a long black skirt with a tucked in white and black patterned sleeveless shirt. Over that she had a cropped leather jacket and she wore sleek high heels. Her hair was parted in the middle and hung straight over her shoulders. Her make up was minimal but smoky which brought out her eyes. Her cheeks had a slightly flush, and he wasn’t sure if it was make up or her own natural flush. He puffed his cheeks, and continued to stare with his mouth slightly open.

“Am I over dressed?” Eunmi asked as she looked down at her attire. “You did say it was semi-formal…” she continued as she looked at him slightly wide – eyed.

Jiho just shook his head, still unable to voice his words.

“You look good.” She then said, so quiet Jiho was unsure if it was actually said or if he had imagined it.

Jiho was wearing tight black pants, and a black and white floral dress shirt that he buttoned all the way to the top. He had a black cardigan with him but he was only holding it. They somehow matched.

“Shall we go?” Jiho said as he cleared his throat and began walking out of the living room. Eunmi smiled and followed him out to his car.

Jiho drove a glossy black Mercedes ML 500 truck, and Eunmi could not help but be impressed. He opened the door for her and in the most gentlemanly way. She inclined her head and allowed herself to smile – a small smile, as she watched Jiho jog around the car to get to the other side. He got in and smiled at her, and they drove away.

Sungbin walked in to the club and made his way up to the private area that they had reserved for Jiho’s bachelor’s party. As he made his way up, and greeted everyone that had come. He was surprised by the outcome – almost all of their friends had come to celebrate the occasion. He ordered himself a beer and waited for Jiho to come, so that he could finally drink the night away. He noticed a few girls sitting at one of the tables, wearing tight and revealing dresses and he couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

He knew it was a bachelors party, and was annoyed at the prospect of Jiho with girls when he was going to get married to her.

“Sungbin-ah!” He heard a shrill voice call him. He looked over with a bored expression as Yoora made her way over to him, swaying her hips in a seductive manner.

“What are you doing here?” He asked. He was supersized to see her at Jiho’s bachelors party.

“What do you mean why am I here? It’s Jiho’s party – of course I’m here.” She said in a matter of fact manner. Sungbin raised his eyebrows.

“You do know what this party is for right?” He asked, suddenly getting nervous. If Jiho hadn’t told her about his enagement that this party was doomed from the start.

“Of course I know.” Yoora scoffed. “I want to see this for myself, and show her who’s really Jiho’s.” She said as she whipped her hair across her shoulder.

Sungbin looked at her and rolled his eyes. “She’s not a – so back off Yoora.” He said as s final warning.

She looked back at him with wide eyes and annoyance. “Jiho is mine. No arranged marriage can ruin our relationship.” She said before stalking off to be with her friends.

Sungbin ran a hand over his face, this was going to be a longer night then he expected. He sighed and made his way over to a table with his friends. He sat down and decided to not meddle with whatever happens. After all, this wasn’t his marriage. Though he told himself that he wouldn’t bother with Jiho and Eunmi, and nagging feeling settled in his stomach. He knew this night wasn’t going to end well.

Fifteen minutes later, Jiho and Eunmi arrived, and Sungbin couldn’t help but stare at Eunmi. He knew that she was soon to be officially off limits, but he couldn’t help but appericaite a good face.

“Hyung – stop staring or Jiho hyung will get pissed.” Said a deep voice that brought Sungbin back to reality. He looked over at Jihoon, who had a cheeky smile playing along his lips, and Sungbin couldn’t help but let out a chuckle and shake his head.

So it wasn’t only him who was captivated by this beauty. He sighed and nodded his head and watched Jiho greet his friends while Eunmi looked stiff and uncomfortable next to him. She bowed politely and allowed herself a small smile from time to time, but her body language spoke louder then her own. He watched as she uncomfortably looked around the dimmed room. Fidgeting with her hair, constantly tucking it back behind her ear.

He stood up then, to go and greet Jiho and Eunmi himself when Yoora B-lined and cut him off. He stopped mid track, dread falling over him as he watched Jiho pale.

“Oppa!” She announced in a sickly sweet voice that was over done. “Oppa… who is she?” she said as she grabbed onto his arm tight, batting her eye lashes.

*

Eunmi’s stomach dropped when she saw the girl wrap her arms around Jiho’s arm and look up at him. She knew well who this woman must be – Yoo Yoora, Jiho’s girlfriend. She watched as Jiho stiffened and then tore the girl off of him, only to move closer to Eunmi in a protective manner.

“Who invited you?” He demanded. Both he and Eunmi knew well that everyone was now watching them and this little showdown.

“Oppa! How can you not invited your girlfriend to your own party!” Yoora pouted, looking up at him with large eyes. “Who is this old woman your with anyways?”

“Yah!” Jiho shouted, clearly stunning both Yoora and Eunmi. “You know who she is, and don’t call her an old women, she’s only a year older than you. Fine your manners!” He said as he turned to Eunmi with apologetic eyes. “Sorry – she’s a bit of a pest.” He said.

“Don’t worry.” Eunmi replied with a small reassuring smile. She felt slightly bad for Yoora – but business was business.

“Oh and I’m not your boyfriend. We broke up a long time ago.” Jiho finally stated as he turned back to Yoora, who was not fuming. Her cute act was now long gone and a venomous face had replaced it.

“Who is she to waltz in and destroy what we had going for so long?” Yoora said as she stood her ground and stared Eunmi down. “I’ve done my research – this marriage is only beneficial to one side – hers!” she exclaimed loudly so that everyone could hear.

Eunmi couldn’t help but notice that the DJ had lowered the music, allowing everyone to hear the show down. She inhaled deeply and decided that if it was a show that they wanted – a show they would get, and this battle she would not lose.

“Yah –” Jiho began but Eunmi laid a reassuring hand on his, giving it a small squeeze. It was their first form of skinship, and it sent tingles through both of their bodies. Jiho looked over at Eunmi with wide surprised eyes, but didn’t continue to speak.

“Ah – so it seems the infamous Yoo Yoora has done her research.” Eunmi said in a confident voice. Jiho and Sungbin watched her – eyes wide at how her body language suddenly changed.

“Y-yah… how do you know my name?” Yoora stated, taken not expecting that Eunmi would retaliate.

“You’re not the only one who has a computer, you know.” Eunmi replied with a small chuckle. “Now, it’s only fair that I did my own research, like you have, is it not?” She asked with an arched eyebrow.

Eunmi looked around the room, and saw that almost everyone was now leaning in so that they could hear what she was saying.

“Let’s not fight like we’re in high school, eh? We’re both grown women, and this is just purely business.” Eunmi stated, not wanting to go at it like high schoolers.

Yoora scoffed. “Only high school girls steal others men…” She replied with a confident smile. “And what century do we live in for arranged marriages to still happen! Especially one sided marriages – are you some fourth child who needs to be married off or something?” Yoora spat out. Eunmi just shook her head.

“Ah – so I guess we will play this game.” Eunmi replied as she clung onto Jiho’s hand. “My father has purchased several million dollars worth of shares from the Woo family companies. The Woo family companies have also merged several sectors with the Shin Corporation which – with this successful marriage – will allot to both companies to gain an annual revenue of 7.7 billion dollars in the next few years.” She said as she began to count on her fingers all the advantages that this marriage would have finically. “Yes it is true, that this business marriage does favor the Shin Corporations quite heavily – how much can you, and your status bring to this industry?” Eunmi asked with a quirked brow.

Now it was Yoora’s turn to look uncomfortable. Eunmi looked around noticed how many people were beginning to snicker and fist pump at her comment.

“I believe your family owns several successful karaoke bars around the city. Hmmm…” she said as she lightly tapped her cheek. “I wonder how much that would bring to companies annually…” Eunmi was quite for a few seconds before she snapped her fingers. “Ah! I got it – 55, 262 dollars annually. Woooah! So much revenue!” Eunmi shook her head in mock shock.

Yoora stared at her for several more seconds before she realized that she had lost. “Yah!” she said again, stepping really close to Eunmi – but she was stopped short by Jiho so had pushed himself against her.

“Enough – you knew that this was my engagement party and you came here for a fight. Get lost. You’ve already ruined the night just like you wanted to.” Jiho said as he looked down at her angry.

Yoora watched as Jiho steered Eunmi away, one arm protectively wrapped around her waist. She had to admit, Eunmi was a forced to be reckoned with and she was damn good with her numbers.

“Aish! Why didn’t I study more in school!” She said to herself as she walked out of the private area and down to the normal bar. She needed a drink.

Chapter 14: Of all I have read, this is by far the best fanfic that involves Jiho :) other ones have him being a complete , but this one shows gentle, caring sides which I really enjoy reading. Please continue when you have a chance, and I hope your study is going well!
P.s this will probably be the only fanfic I'll ever comment on, that goes to show how intriguing your ideas and storyline is. I would like to say that I hope nothing happens between Beenzino and her, but tbh everyone needs some kind of interference since Yoora is gone.
Keep up the good work! Here and at Uni :)
