A Rude Awakening
Body LanguageThe wedding reception was a blur and Eunmi barely remembered much of it. Only two very significant things stood out in her memory. One being the dance she and Jiho shared on the dance floor, and the second was her father gifting her with an apartment for her and Jiho. It was strange, her father rarely gave her presents and when he did there was always a hidden meaning behind them – a way for him to get to her.
When her father handed over keys to both her and Jiho, she accepted them with an unsettling feeling. She knew there was more to it then meets the eye.
Now several hours later, Eunmi and Jiho stand in front of their new apartment door. Jiho looked down at Eunmi and noticed how she was ringing her hands together, looking uneasy. She had changed out of her dress and was wearing casual clothing, so Jiho had no idea why she was feeling uneasy.
“Are you nervous about sleeping together alone tonight?” Jiho asked with a cocky smile, hoping that it would lighten the mood.
Eunmi snapped her head up and looked at Jiho with a horrified look. It was as if those words triggered by Jiho made the puzzle fall into place. That was exactly what her father had wanted – to come in freely and keep an eye on them.
“I was just joking, don’t worry about it. I won’t bite.” He said with a wink as he unlocked the door and entered the spacious apartment.
Eunmi followed, yet her uneasiness grew with each step and glace she took around the apartment. She was trapped – there was no escape in the marriage.
Eunmi watched as Jiho walked around the apartment, inspecting various things with a small smile on his face. It was evident that he liked what he saw, yet Eunmi felt sick as she looked at the apartment, rooted in one spot.
“It’s quiet nice…” Jiho said as he turned to her with a small on his face. Eunmi couldn’t help but give him a small smile back – he was just too cute to resist. “Come in and look around!” He said encouragingly.
Eunmi took a few tentative steps around the house. He was right, the apartment was nice, it was spacious, and modernly designed with a wicked view of the city. Eunmi walked over to the window and watched as the tiny specs of car lights whizzing by. The uneasiness still had not subsided within her as she tried to calculate her father’s next move.
She was more than aware that her father no longer favored the marriage of her and Jiho due to his mothers feistiness and protectiveness of her. When she was hospitalized, it was Jiho’s mother who took care of media and it wasn’t surprising that her fathers company took a hit from it. Jiho’s mother – much like him – wasn’t shy to give someone her piece of mind, and judging by their cold behavior towards one another at the wedding, she had said something.
Would her father try to sabotage the contract and state that the marriage never happened? That surely must be it.
“What are you thinking about?” Jiho said from behind her. Eunmi whirled around quickly and consequently spun into his chest. She quickly backed away, but was stopped by firm hands on her back.
“N-nothing really… just a little tired I guess.” She replied with a small smile.
“Lets go to bed then, shall we?” He said with a raised eyebrow. He grabbed her hand and led her to the bedroom.
Eunmi’s heart was racing in her chest so loud, she was scared he might be able to hear it. She tried to resist, but he was just too strong for her. As they approached the bed, Jiho ave a small tug and Eunmi flew onto the bed.
“Now… shall we get started?” He said again with a raised brow. Eunmi swallowed hard.
“If I knew you we’re going to be this erted I may have reconsidered signing the contract.” Eunmi replied as she looked up at him. They stared at each other for several seconds in silence before they both began to laugh.
“Let’s sleep and think about the rest tomorrow, eh?” Jiho said as he leaned in and gave Eunmi a peck on the lips.
Jiho turned away and opened on of the drawers to reveal preset clothing. “Wha, your father even bought us clothing…” He said as he pulled out various items. He raised his eyebrows impressed.
Eunmi crawled over to her side, where she opened drawers and found various clothing items, some much more scandalous then others. She picked up one lacy item and held up it for further examination and threw it across the room. She looked over at Jiho hoping that he didn’t see, yet her face redden when she saw that he was desperately trying to hold in his laughter.
“Yah!” Eunmi said as she looked away and quickly picked up random clothing and walked into the washroom to change her clothing.
Several minutes later, Eunmi emerged out of the washroom, with a clean washed face and in a pair of short boxers and a loose sleeveless shirt. She picked at her nails as she walked over to her side of the bed and quietly got under the thick white duvet. Jiho was already in bed – topless from what Eunmi could see and looking at his phone.
She cleared and looked over at him.
“Good night, Jiho, and thanks for everything.” Eunmi said. Jiho looked over at her and smiled.
“No need to thank me.” He replied as he shut his phone and tossed it on the end table. He turned so that he was facing her. “You know, if we had met differently, I still would have pursued you.”
Eunmi looked at him surprised. “Don’t lie. Who’d want to pursue a girl like me? Everyone on campus says I’m a stone cold – which is true I guess, I don’t really try to make friends…” She replied trailing off as she began to think about all the different reasons why someone wouldn’t want to date her.
“Are you hearing yourself right now?” Jiho replied as he raised his head to get a better look at her. “You’re not cold, you’re mysterious and yeah ok, you do look a little intimidating – but smart intimidating. People are scared of you because they know you can rip them apart with your intelligence.”
Eunmi remained quiet as Jiho’s words sunk in. She looked down at her nails, avoiding Jiho’s gaze.
“Don’t ever change. I like who you are.” He said as he brought his hand down gently to cup her face. Eunmi couldn’t help but flinch out of instinct, but she soon relaxed under his warm touch.
“Goodnight gorgeous wife.” Jiho said in a cute tone, as he grabbed her hand from under the sheets and kissed her knuckles.
“That was so cheesy…” Eunmi replied with a chuckle. “Good night handsome husband…” She replied with a whisper and a smile.
And with that, they both fell asleep in each other’s arms.
