Third Chapter

No mom, I don't like him!

Luhan was having breakfast, but his thoughts were going back to yesterday’s events.

Sehun had tried to tell him that he didn’t mean it that way. That he didn’t really want to kiss Luhan, he was just trying to show him that he was not homophobic. And he would never kiss Luhan because he already had a girlfriend.

I need to stay away from that ert even if he has a girlfriend.

He finished eating rather quickly and was about to leave the house and go to school when his mother called him back, telling him he had to wait for Sehun.

The good boy he is, he waited patiently for ten minutes until Sehun decided to show up. Luhan greeted him because he decided it was the best if they just forgot about what happened yesterday but Sehun didn’t even greet him back. He just ignored him and walked ahead.

Luhan was baffled. Yesterday Sehun was practically begging him to be friends, and today he went back to his old self, doing what he was best at. Ignoring Luhan.

Was it because they were heading to school? Did Sehun not want to be seen with Luhan? Was he too cool to be seen with Luhan?

I’m not even ugly or a loser. Luhan thought. He knew he would never understand the younger, so he just let it slide and focused on more important things. Today was their first day at school, and Luhan was more than eager to make new friends and see his old friends that he knew from elementary school.

And most importantly he would be able to see his best friend Kai everyday. It was not how  Sehun thought at all. Luhan didn’t have any romantic feelings towards Kai. It felt more like Kai was his other half, he just completed him. He was a reliable and trustful person. Just the perfect best friend.

So when Luhan saw his best friend in front of the school’s gate waiting for him he couldn’t help but run into his arms.

“Woah, someone is in a good mood.”

“How can I not be in a good mood? We’re attending school together just like in elementary school, and we’ll be hanging out with the others like we used to.”

Luhan was bouncing up and down happily around Kai, who was laughing at his friend’s childish behavior.

Sehun was observing them silently. There was something about the way Luhan acted around Kai that he didn’t like. Or maybe he just didn’t like Kai. It was true that he finally wanted to get along with Luhan, but after he accidentally told him that he wanted to kiss him he just felt too embarrassed to talk to the other.

Just by looking at Luhan he wondered how he would ever be able to get closer to that boy. He was too childish for Sehun's taste. Yes, Sehun was indeed younger than Luhan, but Sehun was a rather silent and mature kind of person. He could be childish at times, too. Especially when he was drunk, but he tried to hide it. He didn’t want others to look down at him, so he made sure to always look like the cool guy he isn’t is.

He entered his new classroom with mixed feelings. He didn’t mind starting anew and making new friends, but he was insecure nevertheless. He was handsome, he could easily make friends, hell he was even good at school, but he always had the feeling that he was not enough.

It felt like the friends he had were just some strangers he called friends. He didn’t have this feeling of friendship everyone talked about. He never experienced real friendship and trust. Most of his friends were young models, which he got to know through his mother’s work. He would help her out at times, sometimes he would even model because ‘he had the perfect face and body’ according to his mother and her agency.

He liked hanging around with the models and some celebrities, it made him feel good. After all not everyone can attended the same parties as Choi Siwon or Lee Minho. But at the same time he felt empty. These people barely knew anything about him, and he knew almost nothing about them but they called each other friends. They would go to parties together, or hang out every now and then to gossip but there were no deep conversations. There wasn’t the opportunity for deep talks. After all not everyone lived in Seoul, they would just see each other at shootings or parties.

It was hard to find people he could be comfortable around, or people he could simply trust. Even the kids at his old school were just a bunch of idiots. He could talk with them about girls or sports but that was it.

That’s why he always envied Luhan. Luhan also knew some upper class people through his mother, but he didn’t care about them. He never attended their parties, and they still graved for his attention. Agencies had been after him for years, but he declined all the offers. He lived a simple life and had his friends. Real friends, which he apparently had a lot of fun with.

When they were younger Sehun thought that Luhan was a fool. Choosing a boring life instead of fame. But he came to understand that fame was not the most important thing in life.

All he wanted was someone who would understand him, share the same interests and accept him the way he was. He thought he found someone when he started dating his girlfriend, but now he wasn’t sure anymore.

The classroom was filled by the time Sehun finished with all his thinking. To his left there was a pretty girl talking to her friends, while the seat on his right was occupied by a backpack. The owner of it soon showed up, flashing a smile towards Sehun.

“Hey, you’re new here, aren’t you? My name's Chen.”

“Yes. I’m Sehun.”

After some small talks and hours of boring lessons it was finally lunch time. Sehun learned that the pretty girl’s name was Suzy, that Chen was a nice but weird guy, and that there were barely any boys in their class. Five boys and twenty girls. Apart from Chen he couldn’t bring himself to like the other guys. He still spent his lunchtime with them though because he didn’t know anyone else yet.

While sitting with them, Chen told him the most important things he should know about the students.

“You see these girls sitting over there? They are like the ‘most wanted’. Boys are after them but they play hard to get because they’re rich and well, they’re popular. By the way they throw the best parties in town.”

Sehun noticed that Suzy was sitting with them.

“And you see the boys sitting with them? They are the most popular seniors. There’s Hanbyul then there’s Hongki and Heechul, they're seniors and really funny guys, you can go to them whenever you need help with anything concerning school. And last but not least there is Taemin. He’s a model, maybe you’ve already heard of him. Yeah I guess these are the most important people here.”

Something in Sehun’s mind clicked. Taemin, he knew that guy. They've had a shooting together and even got bubble tea afterwards. He was definitely going to talk to him before lunch ended but first he still had to ask Chen about Kai. He didn’t know why but he was curious about him.

“Do you know a kid called Kai?”

“Oh yeah, I know him. He’s a friend of mine. He has a bad reputation though. He had the chance to become a model just like his brother but he didn’t take the offer because of a promise. Apparently he and his best friend promised each other that they never want to become famous or something like that. I don’t really know it either.”

“How ridiculous.” Sehun muttered as he stood up. “It was nice talking to you, Chen but I need to catch up with an old friend.”

Before Chen could even question him, Sehun was already gone, heading towards the table where Taemin was sitting. He saw how Sehun tapped Taemin on his shoulder, and how Taemin’s eyes sparkled the second he saw Sehun. The two were suddenly hugging each other, and Chen couldn’t help but wonder how the hell Sehun knew Taemin.

What he didn’t know was that a confused Luhan had the same thoughts going through his head, even when he was already at home. He had seen them during lunch and couldn’t stop thinking about their friendship since then.

Luhan knew Taemin, he knew Taemin very well. Too well actually. But he never knew that he was close to Sehun. He didn’t even know that Taemin was still in Ulsan. Kai never told him that Taemin was back. But well Kai never talked about Taemin anyways.

He didn’t even have the chance to talk to Taemin because he was hanging around Sehun all the time.

“Luhan you should listen when your mother is talking to you!”

“Oh, sorry mom. I was lost in thoughts.”

“Anyway just as I was saying Julia and I are leaving for the weekend. Try to be nice to each other, okay? Oh and you’ll be in charge of cooking, apparently Sehun doesn’t know how to cook.”

“Doesn’t he have money to order pizza or something?”

“Luhan if I come back and find out that you let him eat unhealthy food like that you can start digging your grave.”

“Mom you don’t sound threatening at all.”

“I’ll publish the lulu theories.”

“I’m cooking for Sehun.”

Luhan was defeated. His mother had this collection of weird stories called ‘Lulu theories’. It was basically a collection of embarrassing stories of Luhan, as well as weird theories about him. Like how working at a maid café would be the most suiting job for him because he looked better than most girls.

The stories were humiliating for Luhan. He even tried erasing them once but it turned out that his mother had saved them on her other laptop, too.

He would never understand why his mother wrote sick stuff like that. When he asked her once she told him that she always wanted to have a daughter, but the heavens blessed her with something even better. A son who was prettier than any girl could ever be.  She believed that it was such a blessing she simply had to write about her lovely son. When he asked why she couldn’t just write something more normal, She would say “The things I write about you are purely fictional and only based on your appearance. Just by looking at you I get so inspired to write. Sometimes I have great ideas, but they won’t fit into my storyline so I turn them into Lulu theories.”

He would rather cook for Sehun than let his mother publish that stuff.

“Where are you going over the weekend?” He asked realizing that his mother didn’t tell him yet.

“Met that bastard’s wife today. I need to get out of town before I physically hurt her.” His mother grumpily answered.

“I really don’t understand why we moved here. I mean you’re still not over it and you still can’t face them.”

“I’m doing this for you Lulu, I know you love it here. And I want to show them that I’m better off without them. It’s just that I still can’t control my rage when I see them. If it wasn’t for your aunt Julia I would have caused a scene.”

“Mom please just ignore them.”

“Ignore them? How can I ignore them? They are the reason why you were separated from your brother! I couldn’t even raise my own son! They took him away from me!”

“Mom…”

Luhan didn’t know what to say anymore. His mother was right. These people had caused his mother a lot of pain. But still he couldn’t hate them and he knew that deep in his mother’s heart she also didn’t hate them.  She was just disappointed.

“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to yell at you.” Nuna said, wiping away a tear, before she embraced her son. Their sweet moment didn’t last long though because a bewildered Julia was now standing in front of them.

“Nuna, you should come downstairs in our apartment! Hurry up! You too Luhan.”

Both of them stared at her with a confused expression but none of them was in the mood to question her so they just followed her downstairs. They could hear voices and laughter and it didn’t take long for them to recognize that voice.

Luhan watched his mother’s eyes widen before she hurried into the kitchen where two teenage boys were drinking some coffee.

“Taemin.”

“Mom?”

In a split of a second they were hugging each other tightly, wiping away each other’s tears and laughing out of happiness. A confused Sehun was sitting there, not understanding what exactly was happening.

“Tae! You know, I’m here, too!”

“Lulu!”

And the hugging session went on again.

“Why didn’t you guys tell me that you were back in Ulsan?”

“We never knew that you were here either. Last time I asked Kai about you he got annoyed saying you were still in Seoul.”

“You asked Kai? Luhan haven’t I told you to stay away from that kid?” Nuna asked sternly.

Taemin chuckled as he swung his arm around his half-brother. “Don’t be harsh on him mom. Kai’s his best friend after all, right Lulu?”

“He’s your what? Oh lord, don’t tell me you’re secretly dating him! I tried to desperately separate you from that boy please don’t tell me that all my efforts were useless! Why can’t you look at Sehun that way? Why does it have to be Kai?”

Nuna was definitely on her period, at least that’s what Luhan thought. He didn’t know whether to  feel angry or embarrassed. Sehun's cheeks were turning red, while Taemin was laughing his off and an enthusiastic Julia was repeating the question “Yes why can’t it be Sehun?” over and over again.

What the hell is going on?
