White and Blurry

Tripping is the Key

I opened my eyes to a blurry white room. “Where am I?” I said aloud, trying to sit up.

As I felt my face, I realized that in the place of my glasses were bandages. No wonder everything looked blurry. But why were there bandages?

Then everything came back. I had tripped on something while I was walking, lost in thought. As I fell, my glasses fell first, the glass shattered and cut my face. Talk about being clumsy.

I sighed. The problem now was my vision. My eyes had worried doctors for years, as they tried to find a way for me to see clearly. I left my contacts at home, because I couldn’t find a smaller size for my contact solution. How the heck was I supposed to get around?

There was a knock on the door. A nurse came in, and greeted herself. I blinked. Did they have translators in this hospital?

Then Simon and Martina entered, as I could see from their haircuts and heights. I relaxed under the covers. Though they may not be fluent in Korean, at least they knew more of the language than I did.

“Are you feeling better, Min?” Martina asked.

I nodded. “I’m sorry I couldn’t make it to your house. Do I worry you guys?”

“You sure did. Though the person that was at you accident found your cell phone and called us. Boy, were we surprised.”

I sat up. “Who was it?”

Martina opened the door. I blinked. I couldn’t distinguish the person. It was just a blur of black all over.

“Hello,” the guy said, bowing.

I gave a mini bow. “Sorry, I can’t see,” I apologized. “My glasses broke at the accident, which is why I have these bandages.”

Martina turned and said a bunch of Korean, which I hope was a sufficient translation.

“Ah. Well, um, yesterday, I am sorry, for falling? Tripping you,” the stranger answered slowly, in an uneven voice.

I smiled. “It’s okay.”

At the moment a nurse came, seeming to shoo them away. "Wait, Martina!" I called out desperately.

"Yes?" she said, mometarily shushing the nurse.

"Can you ask them to send someone who speaks English? I don't know if I can communicate well with someone who only knows Korean."

She nodded. "I'll try to get one for you," she replied as she was pushed out of the door.

The nurse came over, smoothed the covers, and smiled. I smiled back and went back to resting on my bed.  She left, and I was left alone in the white, blank room. Suddenly, sense came to my brain and I cried out.

"What is it?" The nurse that was sent up suddenly came in.

"Nothing." But I bit my lip. I forgot to ask the guy's name! How was I going to thank him for coming to see me?
