Try to Fall in Love

Seoyeon soon made herself at home in the Carter household. As Sam was putting all the food away, she got changed into her old jogging bottoms and a shirt that was a little too small for her, wrapping a blanket around her shoulders to combat the cold British weather.

I like your shirt,” Sam commented as Seoyeon wandered into the kitchen to get a glass of water. Seoyeon grinned and moved towards Sam, kissing him quickly as he traced the tattoo on her hip gently.

Darkness fell at around five in the afternoon, so Sam and Seoyeon didn't see the point in going out. Instead, Seoyeon waited until Sam went to the bathroom, then locked him in there, pushing a chair up against the door to stop him getting out. Seoyeon giggled as she ran down the stairs, Sam yelling from inside the bathroom. Quickly, Seoyeon found some candles in a drawer and placed them on the table, then, she began to cook Sam's favourite English meal- fish and chips. Of course, the chips were only oven chips, and the fish was already battered and ready to throw into the oven, but it's the thought that counts, right? While the food was cooking, Seoyeon carefully lit the candles on the table, and ran upstairs to make sure Sam was still stuck in the bathroom. He was, but she put another chair against the door anyway, just in case. She didn't want to ruin this romantic gesture by looking like she hadn't washed for a week, so she twisted her hair into a cute updo and pulled on some black jeans and a sweet chiffon blouse.

Seoyeon, let me out of this goddamn bathroom!” Sam yelled, over and over again, while his fiancée was preparing dinner.

I'm just coming!” Seoyeon shouted, moving the chairs away quickly and unlocking the door for him.

Why the heck did you-” Sam started, but was cut off by Seoyeon covering his mouth with her hand and pulling him downstairs. Laughing, Seoyeon led Sam into the kitchen, where she'd set out their dinner between candles and tall glasses, Sam's with wine in, hers with water in.

Now I see why you locked me in the toilet. Maybe I should try to get locked in there more often,” Sam grinned, wrapping an arm around Seoyeon's waist and pulling her close to him. Laughing, Seoyeon pushed him away and guided him to his chair, before sitting in her own, and tasting her attempt at a British meal.

That was great, cutie,” Sam said, as Seoyeon wandered over to his side of the table and perched on his lap. Sam pulled her close and her hair gently. “Thank you.”

You always do cute things for me,” Seoyeon told him. “I wanted to do something for you.”

You didn't have to, cutie!” Sam laughed. “How is this relationship going to work if we have to stay even?”

Seoyeon nodded, and entwined her fingers with Sam's, leaning her head against his chest gently.

Seoyeon was close to nodding off when the doorbell rang, and she jolted awake, looking around in panic.

It's okay, babe, it's just the doorbell,” Sam soothed, half laughing, as he stood up and made towards the door. Seoyeon followed anxiously, standing a few paces behind Sam. Opening the door, Sam's face instantly lit up and he started laughing, alarming Seoyeon. She watched and listened hard as Sam began talking to the crowd of people outside his door, and after some persuasive sounding remarks from the crowd, the people started flooding inside.

Sam! What's going on?” Seoyeon ran to Sam and clutched his arm, watching the strangers pass her by- most smiling, one or two even winking at her.

You know I saw my friend at the café the other day? He told all my old friends I was back, and I guess I'm having a party,” Sam shrugged. “If you want, you can go and watch a movie upstairs!”

Seoyeon shook her head decisively. “I'm not going anywhere.”

Sam ruffled her hair. “That's the Yeon I know.”

A few hours passed and the party wasn't going anywhere. While Sam had plenty of people to talk to and catch up with, Seoyeon sat on the kitchen counter, pouring drinks for people with a bored look on her face. After a while, though, Seoyeon jumped off the counter with a beer bottle in her hand, and wandered into the party.

Having fun?”

Seoyeon turned to the sound of the voice- though she couldn't understand what they'd just said.

Sorry, I don't know English very good,” she managed to tell them, taking a sip from her bottle and then scrunching up her face at the bitter taste, one that she knew extremely well but would never get used to.

Your first one?” the stranger asked. He had brown hair, styled into a quiff at the front, and warm brown eyes. Seoyeon couldn't help but stare at him. Realising she hadn't understood him, the man pointed at the bottle, and held up one finger. “Your- first- one?”

Seoyeon suddenly understood and shook her head quickly. “I am Seoyeon,” she told him slowly. “I don't like this a lot.”

I'm Matt,” the man said, laughing at her dislike of beer, and holding out a hand to shake hers. “Nice to meet you.”

Seoyeon shook his hand happily and smiled at him. Matt leant against the wall next to Seoyeon and pointed at Sam.

You're his girlfriend?” Matt asked casually.

Yes. Girlfriend,” Seoyeon nodded, holding up her hand to show him the engagement ring. “We are marry soon!”

That's adorable,” Matt said, his eyes glittering. Seoyeon found herself watching him as he pulled a cigarette from his pocket and lit it, letting it hang loosely from his lips. Almost as if he'd only just remembered she was there, he took it from his mouth and held it out to her.

You smoke?” he asked quietly.

No, she doesn't,” Sam said, marching from the middle of the room. Seoyeon jumped at the sudden sound, having become used to the sounds of the party.

She doesn't drink either,” Sam took the bottle from Seoyeon, switching to Korean.

I'm sorry,” Seoyeon apologised quickly. “I was just bored, and-”

You can have water, yeah? You don't drink and I don't know what you're like when you're drunk. I don't want to find you passed out under the kitchen table, babe.”

Seoyeon nodded solemnly. “Fine. I won't drink.” I've got a high tolerance, though, she thought, you haven't seen me play drinking games with Yun.
“You can go to bed if you want,” Sam shrugged. “I don't know when everyone will leave.”
“It's okay, I made a friend,” Seoyeon told Sam. “But I won't take his cigarettes, don't worry.”

Sam ruffled her hair like he did earlier. “No more drinks, okay?”

Okay.”

Matt glanced over at Seoyeon as she leant back against the wall, now without a drink and looking slightly out of place.

Are you okay?” Matt asked, concerned.

I am okay,” Seoyeon nodded, running her fingers through her hair. “I am go to kitchen.”

She started walking through to the kitchen, in search of another drink, not realising that Matt had followed her. Climbing up on the counter, Seoyeon searched around on the shelves for another bottle. Pulling one off the back of the shelf, she lost her balance for a moment- only to feel Matt's hands on her lower back, dangerously close to her . She nimbly jumped down and nodded a thank you to Matt, trying to hide her blush with her hair.

Again, Matt followed her as she weaved through the crowd to the staircase. Seoyeon kept the bottle close to her so Sam wouldn't see it, and quickly disappeared upstairs. Matt wanted to follow her up there, too, but had realised as soon as Sam had appeared that she wasn't going to be easy. He ran his fingers through his tangled hair and leant against the wall again, watching the night unfold.

Seoyeon shakily made her way to Sam's old bedroom, and flopped onto the bed, kicking the door shut behind her. She took a swig from the bottle and scrunched up her face again. Honestly, she was only drinking it to look older, and she only got another one to impress Matt. However, when he stopped her from falling, she suddenly realised what he wanted. Though she would never admit it, she kind of wanted him to follow her upstairs. Seoyeon had been to parties before; huge ones, where the police had had to come and break it up. When she was at parties in Korea, she didn't need to drink to have people crowding around her. But she'd never been to a party where she didn't speak the language. As always, though, she knew how to have a good time.

Smiling to herself, Seoyeon walked down the stairs slowly, one hand delicately balanced on the bannister, the other loosely holding her beer. She flicked her hair over her shoulder to reveal a plain grey cropped shirt which showed her belly button piercing, over a pair of ripped, high-waisted shorts. Her black biker boots echoed on the stairs and she stuck out her tongue to Matt, her piercing reflecting the light. He laughed, not expecting to see Seoyeon again, and moved to meet her.

Are you okay?” Seoyeon asked Matt, trying desperately hard not to make a face when she tasted her beer again. When would she get used to that bitter tang?

I'm great,” he grinned. “Do you want to-”
“Seoyeon, where did you get this from?” It was Sam again. He took the beer from her hand and placed it on the side. “And why did you get changed?”

Seoyeon shrugged. “I wanted to have some fun, for once. Is that alright with you?”

Don't get all sarcastic with me,” Sam frowned. He glanced over at Matt.

Look, babe. You're going off with your friends, maybe I felt a bit left out, maybe I felt a bit lonely. I'll just chill down here with Matt until everyone leaves, okay? I won't drink any more,” Seoyeon promised. “I'll even go and put a different outfit on, if you want.”
Sam looked at her for a moment, and shook his head. “No. I like that shirt. Wear it more.”

Seoyeon grinned, and kissed Sam quickly before he turned and walked back into the crowd.

You live here?” Seoyeon asked Matt as they sat in an abandoned corner of the kitchen, Seoyeon swinging her legs on the counter, and Matt leant against the said counter.

I'm from Manchester, but I stay here sometimes,” Matt told her, and Seoyeon nodded, pretending she understood.

I live in Seoul,” Seoyeon said. “It's very big. But small houses. Many people.”

Matt glanced up at her. “Your English is better than you think.”
“I understand more than I talk,” Seoyeon agreed. “Sam is teach me.”

I remember when he tried to teach me to sing, a few years ago. He came back for the summer and we were really close. We almost started a band,” Matt laughed, remembering. Seoyeon laughed too, not really sure what he'd just said.

Abruptly, Matt pulled his phone out of his pocket, receiving a text from someone. He grinned and ran his fingers through his messy hair, glancing up at Seoyeon as he did.

Can I use your phone?” he asked, giving a crooked smile. Seoyeon heard “phone” and took hers from her pocket, and raised her eyebrows as Matt entered a number into it and called it.

That's my number. There's a party in a few nights. You should come,” he told her, standing up. “I'll see you there, alright?”

Seoyeon watched Matt leave and looked down at her phone. Matt had entered his name as Matty <3. She smirked and quickly changed it, hoping that Sam wouldn't be upset.

I love this story so much! Well written and with not a single boring scene. :) How did Yun suddenly go missing though? Just because he let it slip about Taeho? ;;
