Chapter 8

Warrior/전사

The fourteen had a picnic on the river bank, eating apples.

They were eating when they heard a loud ka-boom.

They looked up.

The sky was beginning to get grey due to the clouds above, and lightning was forming in the sky.

"Oh dear," said Chorong, "It can't get any worse can it?"

"Never fear," said Eunkwang, "We'll sleep in the cottage anyways, that's better than sleeping and getting cold and wet,"

It was at that moment they each felt a drop of water drop on them.

They continued to feel more and more water drops until all of a sudden, water drops were pouring on them like a waterfall.

"Quick!" said Eunkwang, "Everybody in!"

The fourteen all rushed in.

"It's awfully dark here," said Hayoung, "I think we need a fire. Who has matches?"

"I do," said Naeun.

"Oh Naeun, thank goodness!" said Hayoung, "But what can we do? We can't just hold matches in our hands, and we don't have a candle or something,"

"That's okay," said Eunkwang, "Minhyuk and I can go out and collect wood and stones to make a fire."

"In this weather?!" said Bomi.

"Don't worry," said Eunkwang.

"I'll help," said Sungjae.

"And me too," said Hyunsik. "We'll be perfectly fine,"

"Are you sure you want to do this?" said Chorong, "You really don't have to, we can just rely on the matches,"

"Relax," said Eunkwang, "We all know exactly what to do when there's a storm,"

"Okay," said Chorong, "You all be careful,"

The four princes went out and began to collect twigs and logs from random places, while getting soaked wet in the rain.

They were all heavy, so they decided to drop them in the house before setting out to get some stones.

The four looked everywhere for stones, but they did not find any.

Eventually, they came to a dark cave.

"There could be some in there," said Eunkwang.

The four went inside and began to explore the cave.

"Look!" said Sungjae, "They must be cave paintings! This cave must be very very old!"

Hyunsik turned.

"You're right, Sungjae!" said Hyunsik, "Look at the handprints and the fossils in the rocks here, something tells me that this cave even existed millions of years ago!"

"And look at the messages!" said Eunkwang, pointing to a code of such, "I can't make out what it says, it must be some extinct writing system that was used in that time, if Donggeun was here he might be able to translate since he is so good at languages,"

They walked around the damp cave, sounds of water dripping coming from every angle and direction.

"I wonder who lived here," said Hyunsik. "Look, guys!"

"What is it?" said Sungjae.

"Fossils!"

The four gathered.

"Wait a minute," said Minhyuk, "Maybe we can use these rocks for our fire!"

"You're right!" said Eunkwang, "And there are many pebbles too!"

The four reached and started to stuff many pebbles and rocks into their pockets.

They were still collecting when they heard growling noises.

"I hear something!" said Sungjae, "That means it's....."

"A BEAR!" they all screamed in unison.

"SHHHHHHH!" said Eunkwang taking quick action, "Don't shout, you'll make the bear angry."

But it was too late, a brown bear was crawling out, looking fierce as ever with sharp teeth.

"Okay," whispered Eunkwang, "Calm down. On the count of three, all play dead. One.....two.....three!"

The four all lay down, pretending to be bed whilst the bear started to approach them.

The bear first approached Hyunsik, searching and rolling him about, whilst next were Sungjae, Minhyuk, and then Eunkwang.

The bear growled, but then headed back away from them.

Eunkwang opened his eyes and was the first to sit up.

The bear was gone.

"Okay," said Eunkwang, "You can get up now,"

The three got up.

"Whew!" said Minhyuk, "That was close!"

"That could have been a disaster," said Sungjae.

"Let's just go back quietly," whispered Eunkwang as they tiptoed out the cave.

The four eventually returned with pebbles and stones, soaking wet.

"We were so worried about you!" said Eunji. "Where were you?"

"We found some pebbles in a cave and we were nearly attacked by a bear," said Sungjae.

"The bear was HUGE!" said Eunkwang.

The ten gasped.

"A bear?" said Bomi. "Are you alright?"

"Yup," they answered, as they set up the fire.

As soon as the fire was ready, the fourteen gathered round the fireplace and warmed themselves near the source of light.
