Chapter 14

The "i" Word

Yoochun leaned against the wall, waiting for the restroom door to open. Hearing sobs, he pressed his ear against the door.

“Tae Hee unni... it must be that hard, huh?” She patted her friend’s back.

“Younha...you don’t know what’s happening.”

“Oh... Well whatever it is, I want you to face it and live with it. Accepting is the first step.”

“I can’t accept it. You know how hard it is to even think about it?”

Younha was silent.

“Sung Hee stole my boyfriend, but I can deal with that. My umma told me I was adopted a few weeks ago. I can deal with that. But now... I’m told that my family... I’m being told that Jaejoong...his family...they’re the people who didn’t want me.” She began crying harder. “Jaejoong and I... we’re siblings!”

Younha was taken aback. She had expected something tragic---but not something...like this. “Tae Hee...” She didn’t know what to say. “I’m sorry.” She began sharing her friend’s sorrow by also tearing up.

As Tae Hee and Younha stepped out of the restroom (both puffy eyed), Yoochun stepped from the shadows of the lockers and embraced Tae Hee tightly. “Tae Hee...” he said quietly. Younha slightly grinned at the two and walked off.

“Yoochun? Oppa? Are you okay?” She was shocked.

“If I had known...”

“Don’t.”

He studied her. “Kim Tae Hee, I want to---“

*****

“GOSH! SHE’S SUCH A B*TCH! MUST KILL HER! BIG FAT IDIOT! LOSER!” Seung Yeon cursed. She fumed as she angrily stomped down the hallway to her locker. Slamming her locker open, she grabbed onto her cylinder-shaped pencil bag and began strangling its neck. “YOU B*TCH. I HATE YOU! DIE!” After she retrieved the necessary books, she smashed the locker close.

“Whoa. Scary woman,” somebody commented.

She whirled around and crossed her arms. “Hasn’t anybody taught you not to mess with Han Seung Yeon when she’s ANGRY?!” She stopped. “Oh it’s you.”

“Yep! Kim Junsu! C’mon, I’ll bring you somewhere.” He dragged her down the hallway and out the school.

“LET GO OF ME!” she screamed, dropping her books along the way. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”

“I’m bringing you to the ice cream shop. ^^ It always makes me happy.” He smiled brightly at her.

She began calming down. He was an odd one. His personality didn’t exactly fit that of a high school student. He was more like a child trapped in an adult’s body.

*****

“Kim Tae Hee, I want to---“ He paused as he saw a student heading towards them.

“TAE HEE!” the lowerclassman greeted.

“Jiwoon?” She immediately pushed Yoochun away from her.

Jiwoon grinned. “Somebody’s been naughty.”

“?”

“Your friend Jaejoong met up with me after I left you at lunch.”

Her stomach dropped. Jaejoong and Jiwoon, she grimaced. She couldn’t picture anything pleasant with these two together, especially in the predicament she currently was in.

“What’d he say?”

“He threatened to beat me up.”

“WHAT?”

Yoochun spoke up. “Typical irrational Jaejoong.” He rolled his eyes.

“Well actually, he tried to...but I’m a black belt in Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Judo... so I ended up beating him up.”

“YOU BEAT KIM JAEJOONG UP!?” Tae Hee and Yoochun shouted simultaneously. The hallway they were in silenced. NOBODY beat Jaejoong up. Not only was he one of the best fighters in school, he also could ruin your life with the political power he possessed.

Jiwoon grinned. “Yep.”

*****

“Cookies ‘n’ cream, please,” Seung Yeon requested.

“HMM!! Yummy! Make that double for me! I just love ice cream!” Junsu exclaimed happily. “Especially this flavor! The colors remind me of a soccer ball!”

She giggled.

He grinned. “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!”

“Huh?”

“I’ve been successful yet again in brightening somebody’s day. ^^”

“Thank you, Kim Junsu...’

“Just call me oppa, ok?”

“Okay. Thanks Junsu oppa.” She leaned across the table and kissed him on the cheek. Seung Yeon couldn’t help but feel a happy, bubbly feeling inside begin to surface. Was this love?

*****

“Uh...Jiwoon...” Tae Hee said cautiously. “I fear for you.”

“Why?”

“Jaejoong’s not one to mess with...What if you get hurt?”

“Aww... my girlfriend’s worrying about me.” He beamed.

Yoochun’s heart skipped a beat. My girlfriend’s worrying about me. Was he too late? Had he already lost the battle---to an unworthy opponent? This could NOT be happening.

Tae Hee stammered. “Wh---What? Huh?”

He couldn’t lose. No, Yoochun was determined.

He leaned in and kissed Tae Hee on the lips.

“HEY YOU!” Jiwoon shouted angrily. “THAT’S MY GIRL YOU’RE KISSING!”

She quickly pushed him away.

Yoochun glared at Jiwoon with fury. “Oh really?”

They were about to fight. Normally, Tae Hee wouldn’t have minded. Two guys, should she mention, pretty handsome guys, were fighting over her (you had to admit, it was pretty cool), but today, it just wouldn’t happen. She wouldn’t let them. She couldn’t let Yoochun get injured.

So she stepped in between them. “Please don’t fight.”

They both stared at her. Yoochun spoke up, “Don’t worry Tae Hee. He’s not the only one who has several black belts.” He grinned ghoulishly.

Oh God, no.

“Just don’t...okay?” As the two guys nodded, the crowd boo-ed. “Screw you,” she muttered under her breath.

With that over, she walked off campus. She had to visit a certain somebody.

*****

Even before she knocked on the door, a maid had opened it. “Oh! Miss Kim! What a surprise to see you!”

Tae Hee smiled politely.

The maid continued, “You’re looking for young Master Kim, right? He’s in his bedroom, but I wouldn’t bother him if I were you. He’s having a “bad hair” day.”

She nodded as the maid led her to Jaejoong’s room.

Tae Hee knocked on the door. “GO AWAY,” he declared from within.

“Stupid,” she mumbled under her breath. She opened the door and stepped in. “Jaejoong.”

He hid beneath his covers. “GO AWAY.”

She huffed. She could be just as stubborn as he. “No. Now let me see.” She walked over to his bed and yanked his sheets down. “OMG.” Her jaw literally dropped open.

He was bruised all over. His mouth and arm were bleeding. His wrist looked like a purple potato. “Geez, what’d Jiwoon oppa do to you?”

“OPPA?! YOU DARE CALL THAT DEVIL OPPA?!” Jaejoong was outraged.

Tae Hee laughed at his immaturity. She pulled out a band-aid (this time, navy blue) from her bag and waved it before his face.

“Here. Let me put it on. This band-aid should be “manly” enough, right?” It was as if she had read his mind. She placed the band-aid on one of his many cuts. She frowned. “Where’s that box I gave you?” she asked, scanning the room.

“What box?”

“The box I threw at you the second day we met.”

“I dunno.” He pondered for a moment. “Oh yeah! I gave it to Yoochun.”

She began fuming. “HOW COULD YOU GIVE THAT AWAY!? YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THAT COST? YOU IDIOT!”

“What was it anyway?”

“A First Aid Kit, idiot.”

“Oh...my bad. But how much does a First Aid Kit cost anyway, geez.” He attempted to smile, but even doing that caused pain to shoot throughout his body.

“Oh well. It’s your loss. I’ll go ask the maids for one.”

Jaejoong watched her as she ran off. It truly was his loss... and how he regretted it.

She came back smiling, first aid kit in hand, and sat on his bed. “Arm out, please.” He stretched his arm out, painfully and slowly. She ripped open an alcohol packet and applied the pad to a wound. He flinched and bit his lip. “That’s what you get for trying to fight.”

He smirked. “In a way, it was worth it. I’ve got you to nurse me.”

Tae Hee blushed and lowered her head, trying to concentrate on the wound.

“OW!” he whined. Whoops, too much pressure. XD

“Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!” she apologized frantically. “Where does it hurt?”

“My lips hurt. Would you kiss them for me?”

“NO.”

“Too bad.” He leaned forward and their lips brushed against each other. “There.” He smiled satisfactorily. “All better now.”

She slapped him on the arm lightly. “YOU JERK!”

Despite the fact that they weren’t supposed to even be interacting like this, her heart couldn’t help but pound harder. As the doorbell rang throughout the mansion, Tae Hee couldn’t help but think about that song she had sung for him in her dreams.

This can't go on.
It's for the best of us.
I can't seem to stop the tears rolling down and forcing on a smile.
Don't wanna show my tears.
I couldn't even do the one thing. How foolish can I be?

Please forget our memories. Baby please forget our memories.
Just leave and don't ever come back to me.
You don't deserve a guy [girl] like me.
Don't look back just turn away
Baby don't look back just turn away.
I know I'll regret it.
But I just want what's best for you and me.

I will be fine.
I always will be fine.
I'll do anything to make you happy.
That's what I desire.
But this is hard for me.
I can not even find the words to say to you what is on my mind.
How foolish can I be?

Things did not go according to the plan.

I know I'll regret it.
But I just want what's best for you and me.

I just want what's best for~ you and me.
