Ch. 20- Fading Memories

The Instincts of Love

(A/N: For some reason I couldn't help but listen to Sadness and Sorrow...yeah...)

Nobody's POV:

Where am I?

What happened?

W-Who am I?

I can't even recognize myself under all this...blood.

He look down at my hands; his whole body was covered in blood. It wasn't black blood either, and Rebel's blood are black. It was pure red. Just like the crimson of his eyes. Which means that the werewolf that he had killed was new to the Rebel pack. There was a scent to the blood, though. It was fresh.

Sunggyu's eyes widened as the new information dawned on him. He had just killed a werewolf who had transformed recently. Such a young werewolf; he couldn't believe that he killed one. His body begins to shake as he takes steps back.

On the way, he stumbles on his feet and falls to the ground. The dewy grass brushes his body as he lands, realizing where he is. Sunggyu was back at the lake and he let out a sigh. He looked at his surroundings; the lake was sparkling because of the moon's and stars' reflections, and it was peaceful. Nobody was here to bother him or start a fight with him.

Slowly, he got up and walked towards the lake. If people were to see him right now, they would think he is in a trance. It was as if the lake was pulling him close, and that was when a figure appeared, hovering the lake. Sunggyu looked up to see the figure and a smile formed on his pale face.

"W-Who are you? You're from before, aren't you?"

The figure nodded its head.

"Yes, Sunggyu, I'm from before."

Sunggyu got closer, his feet in the water. The figure's appearance got clearer. It was wearing a robe, but this time it was all gold. It brought out the color of the figure's red hair. As Sunggyu got closer, the figure was beckoning him to get deeper and deeper into the water.

Step by step, Sunggyu's body got deeper and deeper into the lake. Maybe he was in a trance, but the only thing running through his mind was to figure out who this person is. He has never seen the person before, though, there is this sense of familiarity. It is their second time meeting, but there is a feeling he couldn't shake off.

"Sunggyu, please stop what you are doing. You're only going to hurt yourself."

"What do you mean? I'm doing this for them. I'm not in pain at all."

"Don't lie to yourself. I can feel your pain."

He shakes his head. Sunggyu doesn't stop as he gets in waist deep. The figure gets closer so Sunggyu doesn't fall into the lake. As the figure got closer, Sunggyu stopped in his tracks. In that moment, everything stopped; no ripples in the water, quiet all of a sudden, and the glister of the stars dimmed.

His body froze in the lake, the figure drifted over the water's surface. Sunggyu's whole world became black as the figure pulled him into a hug. For some reason, Sunggyu found comfort in the other's arms. He may not know if this figure is real or not, but the feelings were true as they can be.

"Who are you? What are you? Please, I don't want to be left in the dark anymore."

"I'm sorry, but I can't tell you right now. It's not the right time."

Sunggyu pulls away his body feeling angry, frustrated, and...worthless. "What do you mean it's not the right time! I've been outcasted and treated like because of what I done! It's not fault I lost myself! It's not my fault because I--"

"Stop! Listen to me. I will tell you when the time comes. Please, understand me, Sunggyu."

"Understand you? Why should I? You don't know me at all! You don't know the pain I've been through!" He scoffs and laughs sarcastically. But then the figure shakes its head and caresses Sunggyu's face.

"I do understand. I've been through the same pain as you. Anger, jealousy, and hate: I've felt all of them before."

He shakes his head not wanting to believe it. Sunggyu closed his eyes for a few seconds, but the figure was still there. So Sunggyu walked towards it not realizing that there was a drop off, sending him down into the water. At the top, the figure watches Sunggyu fall deeper and deeper into the lake.

Sunggyu, though, didn't even try to swim up. He just let the lake pull him towards the bottom like a siren seducing its prey with their voices. That's what it was like for Sunggyu. His mind and body fell to the water's voice as it dragged him down further away from the surface.

Tears were falling down Sunggyu's face yet it looked like there were bubbles. One by one, they floated. Then the last of his air left his lungs. His eyes slowly shut themselves and his body began to grow cold.

"Sunggyu!"

"Sunggyu, wake up."

"Dammit! Answer me Sunggyu!"

"Open your eyes. He is calling for you."

"SUNGGYU!"

"He is here for you."

The person dived into the water and swam towards Sunggyu. He reached and reached out to grab onto him. Then he swam up to the surface pulling along Sunggyu. When they reached the surface, he carefully placed Sunggyu onto the ground, and leaned down to see if he was breathing.

But he wasn't. The person began to do CPR on Sunggyu, hoping he would wake up or cough out the water. He pressed his lips against Sunggyu's, pressed onto his chest, and did the same thing over and over.

Water spewed out of Sunggyu's mouth and the other helped him sit up. He patted Sunggyu's breath to cough out the water. When Sunggyu was finally okay, he turned his head to see a person he didn't expect to see.

The moon was shining upon them as Sunggyu got a better view. But he didn't want to believe it. No matter how real it may be, he didn't want to believe that the person sitting next to him was Woohyun.

"Sunggyu, what the hell were you thinking?! You were trying to kill yourself by drowning because you certainly almost did!"

Sunggyu stumbled as he got up. "Why the hell should you care? Shouldn't you be ecstatic that I tried to kill myself?" Woohyun pulled onto Sunggyu's arm, sending Sunggyu into him.

"Shut up for once! Stop trying to act like you're the victim here!"

His body whips around and his eyes aren't red. Sunggyu's eyes have turned a dark, dark red. Woohyun's eyes widened but then his turn a bright, pure red. Right as Sunggyu was going to punch Woohyun, the latter tackled him to the ground. That was when Woohyun noticed the blood on the ground. He didn't notice the blood earlier since it had washed off of Sunggyu from the water.

"Blood?" Woohyun held Sunggyu's wrists together and up above him. "Tell me, Sunggyu, why is there blood?"

There was no point in lying, so he told Woohyun the truth.

"I killed a werewolf. I killed a Rebel werewolf." Woohyun's grip on Sunggyu's wrist slackened.

"W-What? Tell me everything that happened for you to kill a Rebel."

Sunggyu shook his head though. "I-I don't want to tell you. Blood. Blood was everywhere. R-Red... I k-killed a newly transformed Rebel. H-His blood was pure red."

His body started to shake and Woohyun began to panic. So he pulled Sunggyu into his arms rocking him back and forth. Sunggyu cried into Woohyun's shirt despite it already being wet. Once Sunggyu calmed down and fell asleep in Woohyun's arms, the latter lifted him up bridal style, placed his jacket on top of him, and back to Sunggyu's home.

Woohyun's POV:

I lifted Sunggyu up and brought him to his place. I was able to run there even if I was lifting him and I was drenched. When I got to his place, I knocked on the door, but instead of Sungjong opening the door, it was his Sungyeol.

"Oh...Sungyeol-sshi, what are you doing here?"

He opens the door for me and lets me in. Even though I feel like I should be the on to let him in. Also he didn't even answer me as to why he is here. At least Sunggyu's parents weren't home or else they would of wonder who is he.

"Myungsoo is in his room and so Sungjong is in his. I will tell you everything that happened because it involves Sunggyu-sshi as well."

I turn my head to him confused. "What do you mean? What are you talking about?" Sungyeol steps closer to me and pushes me towards the stairs.

"Go put Sunggyu-sshi in his room. He needs to rest."

Why do I have to listen to you? I was going to go do that right now.

I head upstairs towards Sunggyu's room. As I opened his door, it made a screeching sound. I should probably fix his door later. Then I laid Sunggyu on his bed, but saw something sticking out from under his pillow.

It was a silver chain from what I could see. The moment I pulled it out, a vial was hanging on the chain. Inside the vial it contiained a red liquid. My eyes widen as I figured out what the red liquid is: it as blood. Whose blood it was, I would have to open the vial and smell it.

Right when I was about to open it, Sungyeol-sshi's voice stopped me from doing so.

"Woohyun-sshi, what's taking you so long?"

I let out a sigh and roll my eyes. Quietly and carefully, I pull the necklace under Sunggyu's pillow. I take one more glance over my shoulder at him and closed the door. While I was walking downstairs, I see Myungsoo coming out of his room. I raise my eyebrow at him wondering what he was doing.

"Sungyeol? Where are you?"

"I'm done here Myungsoo!"

Myungsoo went downstairs and my eyes followed him. Then my eyes widened when Myungsoo put his head on top of Sungyeol-sshi's lap. I practically run downstairs not believing what I was seeing. In all my life, I have never seen Myungsoo this close with a...human.

"Myungsoo, why aren't you sleeping in your room?"

"Because you weren't there..."

I almost choked on air as Myungsoo nuzzled his face into Sungyeol-sshi's stomach. Now, I wanted to go puke, and I don't easily puke either. I was about to leave, but then I was stopped by Sungyeol. Or more like caught by him.

"Oh, Woohyun-sshi, you finally done? How is Sunggyu-sshi?" I turn around and smile.

"He is sleeping now. What are you and Myungsoo doing?" I point at the sight.

"Us? Myungsoo is just sleeping on my lap. It's okay because he was sleeping on top of me in his bedroom."

My mouth opened and closed and repeated again. "I see. I've never seen Myungsoo close with someone like that before. Usually, he doesn't like others sleeping with him."

Sungyeol-sshi ran his hand through Myungsoo's hair. He was already sleep by now though I wouldn't be surprised. When I look at them, I see Sunggyu and I when we were younger. The innocence and pureness was bright for me, too bright.

FLASHBACK

"Sunggyu-hyung, where are you?!"

"Hahah! You can't find me, Woohyun-ah!"

I turn my head and follow the sound. I can hear Sunggyu-hyung's laughter ring in my ears. He has to be near here. I'm very sure of it. As I turn around the corner, I see Sunggyu's bottom sticking out from a bush.

"Yah, Kim Sunggyu. I can see you from there."

He jumps back, landing on his bottom. Then I couldn't help but laugh at him. Sunggyu-hyung started to come at me, no more like charging at me. I quickly dodged, but then he faceplanted into the ground.

I ran over to his side and picked him up. "Hyung, you alright?" He hit my shoulder and glared at me despite his small eyes. Then he pushed me away and stomped inside his house. I rolled my eyes at his childness and went inside as well.

Sunggyu-hyung wasn't in the living room, so I went to his room. The door was open as I walked up the stairs. When I peeked in, he was laying on his bed looking at his ceiling. I stared into those eyes from the doorway and felt myself pulled into them. His eyes were a deep brown, some of the most beautiful eyes I have seen. I know that when he becomes a werewolf, his eyes will become a crimson red. But I'm sure they would be the most beautiful as well.

"Woohyun, what are you doing over there?" I snap out of my thoughts and smile at him.

"Oh, nothing. Just thinking about things."

"Like what?"

My body moved on its own as I laid on the bed next to him but my head was on his stomach. I my side so I was facing his face and well...not the other way. Then when he looked down at me, he smiled, making his eyes disappear. I smiled back and closed my eyes.

Then a low hum filled the room as I began to fall asleep and a pair of warm hands running through my hair.

FLASHBACK ENDS

"Woohyun-sshi, what are you thinking about?"

I snap out of my thoughts and refocus my attention on them. That was when I saw Sungyeol-sshi running his fingers through his hair. Just like what Sunggyu used to do as well.

Why?

Why am I thinking of Sunggyu at this moment? Is it because he is upstairs right now? Or maybe because Sungyeol-sshi and Myungsoo remind me of what we used to have back then? Before that happened.

I take a deep breath and let out a sigh. "Sungyeol-sshi, please tell me what happened."

He looks up at me and sighs. With a nod, he told me everything that happened. How his brother became a werewolf, a large pack of werewolves came out of nowhere, but then after that he told me he out because of Myungsoo.

My head turned to Myungsoo who was peacefully sleeping away. But I understood what he did. I would have done the same if I were in his shoes. Honestly, nobody would want to see the bloody sight of werewolves going at each other. If Sungyeol-sshi had seen that, I don't think Myungsoo would be able to forgive himself.

"I see. Your brother is a werewolf just like us. That pack you were talking about must be EXO. One of the largest packs out there. Which means your brother is part of them."

Sungyeo nodded his head at me with a frown. I don't know why he was frowning, but I'm still amazed he isn't scared. The first time when we change into a werewolf, we are in a trance of anger. I'm more surprised that Sungyeol didn't get killed by his brother, but I'm glad that didn't happen. Myungsoo...he would be devestated if that happen.

"Woohyun-sshi, does that happen to all of you guys? The transforming part like that..." I nod my head and sigh.

"Yes, when we become angry and it reaches beyond our maxium, we transform. If we are able to sense it before we transform, then we try to get to an empty area. That way nobody gets hurt. It's a good thing that nobody got hurt because of your brother, though I don't mind the Rebels got hurt from him."

"It's just that...what happens if he had killed someone?"

I look up at him with a sigh. "He would have been fine since it's his first transformation." I turned my head and look out the window. The moonlight was shining and it hit Sungyeol-sshi and Myungsoo perfectly. "Let's just say if it were happen again, then the council would have a trial. Though because he is from the EXO pack it would probably pass."

He looked up at me wtih relief in his eyes. I watched him as he continued to Myungsoo's hair kind of like what an owner would do to its pet. However, I'm sure that Sungyeol-sshi doesn't see Myungsoo like that. Well, I hope so that is.

My hand reaches up and touches my hair. It doesn't feel the same when I do it. The touches aren't warm, kind, or comforting. They are all the opposite. Sunggyu's hands are much different from mine.

"Woohyun-sshi, I have another question." I look up and place my hand on my lap.

"Sure, what is it?"

"What happens to them, if, well, you know."

I knew what he was talking about.

"They are killed. That's it."

Sungyeol's eyes sadden as he looked down at Myungsoo who was still asleep. I felt sad as well, but there was nothing I would be able to do. Though, I wish I had a say in a certain trial. If I did, would that have changed things.

No, they wouldn't have. Both of you would have been in pain. And you would be left alone forever.

I shake my head from my thoughts and stood up. I head for the door but stop and take one more glance at the two of them.

Sungyeol-sshi had fallen asleep but what surprised me was that Myungsoo was awake now. He lifted the other into his arms and walked towards me.

"Thank you. Thank you for bringing Sunggyu-hyung home."

"You don't need to thank me. It's my job."

Myungsoo walked away and up to his room. His door shut quietly probably trying not to wake up Sungyeol-sshi. I let out a sigh and proceeded home. My car was parked in the driveway. Luckily, I took my car here than somewhere else to find Sunggyu.

From inside the car, I looked up at Sunggyu's bedroom window. It was pitch black meaning that he was still asleep. That's good. He needs the rest especially after what happened today. Also, I don't think I would be able to look at him in the eye.

I started the car and drove home. It was already late so there weren't many cars out. While I was driving, I began to think about too many things. Cluttering my mind like boxes and boxes stacked on top of each other. Having to go through each of them to look for thing that I needed would be tiring, but if I don't organize, how can I expect myself to get through this?

Sunggyu...

Jiyeon...

Sunggyu...

Jiyeon...

The moment I parked my car in the driveway, I ran up to my house, and to my room. I shut the door quietly, not to disturb my parents, and laid on my bed. I looked up and stared at the glow in the dark stars. I smiled bitterly at the memories. Too many of them...with Sunggyu.

But now they were beginning to fade. One by one, they had faded into an oblivion. Just like how a star bursts into nothing, and nobody notices it. I reach up for the star the is fading to quickly because the one next to it has already lost it light.

He's fading...and you know the reason why.

I slammed my fist on my bed and groaned in frustration. I grabbed at my necklace and tried to pull it off but then it started to burn in my hand. The burning sensation made me laugh. I held my face in my hands and started to cry. I cried until the last tear dropped.

Everything...

Everything is so messed up.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Black eyes. They are everywhere. Everything is becoming dark. No light. It's all black.

Someone...help.

Red. Everywhere. Blood. No... It's not blood.

Fur. It's red fur.

Pitch black eyes just like the midnight sky.

No emotions. No feelings, remorse, or a sense of the world.

It wants to escape. It wants to die. No... He wants to die.

His eyes are sad and lonely. I reach out for him to make the despair disappear, but he has already become dust in the air.

Dongwoo wakes up with a startle and cluthches his head in pain. He looks in the mirror to see his eyes radiant purple. They were even sparkling as if diamonds were carefully laid in his eyes. He rubbed his eyes once, twice, and many more times after that until they became the normal brown. Then he let out a shaky sigh.

"W-What... What the hell was that?"
