Ch. 17- Tears of Memories

The Instincts of Love

Sungyeol's POV:

It's a crisp autumn morning and it has been three days have pass by since Myungsoo came back to school. Everything that happened before, it felt like it was forgotten and disappeared from our minds. Sunggyu-sshi went back to being himself, though it seems something happened to him. How do I say this? He seems more...cold. I asked Myungsoo about it yesterday but he said he didn't know anything. Deep in my gut I feel like it has to do with Woohyun-sshi.

I was walking to my second class when I bumped into Sungjong. The bump caused him to drop his textbook so I bended over and picked it up for him. I handed it back to him.

" Thank you Sungyeol-hyung." I shook my head as we continued walking.

" No problem. How have you been these days. I haven't been able to ask you since I haven't seen you for a while."

" I've been pretty good. Myungsoo-hyung and Sunggyu-hyung have been doing a bit better too. I'm pretty sure you were going to ask me about Myungsoo-hyung anyway."

I blushed and covered my mouth from saying any incoherent words. I also turned my face away because I didn't want Sungjong to see that I was blushing. Then I slapped on the cheek a few times because why would I be worrying how Myungsoo is? I mean Myungsoo can take care of himself way better than I can take care of myself. I'm always getting into some sort of trouble.

" Sungyeol-hyung, why did you slap yourself?" I turn back to him and awkwardly laughed.

" Haha! Oh nothing! I thought I felt a bug on my cheek! Hahaha!"

" Oh...um...okay then. Well, I have to go this way for my next class! See you later! Oh yeah! Myungsoo-hyung wanted me to tell you he wanted to have lunch with you at 12."

I nodded my head a bit too fast making my head hurt. I was excited because Myungsoo isn't really the type to ask those questions. I kind of wished he asked me personally instead, but it's a step he took to get a bit closer to our friendship. I know I have to be understanding because of the situation he is in, and I'm really happy with what he is doing right now. All I need is for him, us, to take small steps. These past few weeks have already been such big steps that I feel like we need to slow down. For some reason, though, my heart doesn't slow down when I'm with him. I wonder why.

I smiled and waved at Sungjong as he left.

" Okay! Tell Myungsoo I will meet him at the cafeteria then!"

Sungjong waved back, faced his back towards me, and left. Then I watched him leave as a guy appeared from the side. I jumped over to a tree and hid behind it peeking to see who Sungjong was talking to. I couldn't help but smile as Sungjong laughed because I haven't seen that side of him before.

That guy doesn't seem that bad. I wonder who he is? I wonder if Sungjong is dat-

" Sungyeol, what are you doing spying on Sungjong?"

I jumped a few feet from behind the tree making my land on the ground. I groaned in pain as I rubbed my . I looked up to see who scared the out of me, but backed away seeing that it was Myungsoo standing right before me.

" M-Myungsoo!"

" Yeah, that's my name, don't go wearing it out." I get up, brush the dirt off my pants, and then lightly punched him in the shoulder. I crossed my arms and pouted.

" I was not spying! Earlier I was talking to Sungjong, then he said he had to go to class, and then that guy appeared out of nowhere! So technically I wasn't spying on him!"

Myungsoo raised his hands up and backed away a few steps. Then he laughed making me feel a bit insecure and mad so I punched his shoulder a bit harder. All of a sudden Myungsoo fell onto his knees and I started to panic. I knelt down too and checked to see where he was hurt. He began to clutch his shoulder, the one where I punched him, and started to cough. My body reacted on its own as I knelt down next to him. All I could think was pat his back as he coughed and rub his shoulder.

" I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hit you that hard! Are you okay?"

He grabbed my hand on his shoulder and looked up with a smile. My mind went blank for a second because Myungsoo smiled.

Wait... He smiled. That means...

I slapped away his hand and stood up. I crossed my arms and glared at him.

" You! You were joking with me, weren't you?!" Myungsoo shrugged his shoulders at me and stood up too. He started to walk away until I stopped him.

" Yah! Myungsoo! Don't ignore me!" I ran up to him but tripped over my own feet.

I hissed in pain as my body made contact with the ground. I pushed myself up from the ground and noticed that my hands stung. I looked at my palm and saw that there I skinned my palms pretty badly. Blood was coming out from the cuts making a few drops fall to the ground.

Out of nowhere my body started to shake. I clutched my body as images of white and red flashed in my head. The red was covering the white with many puddles of it and droplets scattered everywhere. I began to shiver even though it isn't that cold out.

" Sungyeol?! Hey, are you alright?"

I pushed myself to look up to see Myungsoo kneeling beside me. The image of a little, black wolf appeared when I looked into Myungsoo's eyes. My hand reached out for his face, but went limp as I fell into Myungsoo's arms. I wrapped my arms around Myungsoo trying to catch the warmth radiating off his body.

" M-Myungsoo, I'm cold." I felt myself being lifted up and carried off somewhere.

Myungsoo's POV:

I turned around when I heard a thud. My eyes widen seeing Sungyeol on the ground and I rushed over to him. I kneeled next to him and saw that he had hurt his hands. I reached over to him, but his body began to shake. Sungyeol clutched onto his body and I didn't know what to do. When he began to shiver I called out for him.

" Sungyeol?! Hey, are you alright?"

He looked up at me and his eyes looked lost. I got lost in his eyes and the image of a boy appeared in my head. Sungyeol's hand was reaching towards me and I leaned forward a bit. Right when he was close to me, his hand dropped, his body began to fall and I quickly caught him in my arms. I started to panic as I looked around that nobody was here. I lifted him up bridal style and carried him off to the greenhouse.

He should stop shivering there. At least it won't be cold.

We passed by a few people who were looking at us weirdly but I just glared at them. There was nobody at the greenhouse at the moment, and it's a good thing that I'm a good student to the science professors or else I would get in trouble. I opened the door of the greenhouse and sighed of the warmth that is pouring out.

I headed to the corner of the room where there was nothing. I laid Sungyeol against the wall and took off my light jacket I was wearing. Then I laid it on the ground and placed Sungyeol on it. I sat next to Sungyeol, reached over, and placed his head on my shoulder. He was still shivering so I wrapped my arm around him and pulled him in a bit closer. I could still feel him shivering so I took off my sweater and covered us. Once he stopped shaking, I placed my head on his and closed my eyes.

Being like this...isn't so bad.

Nobody's POV:

Woohyun was on his way to his next class until he saw Sunggyu laying on the grass. He began to wonder as to why he was sitting there and not in class or going to his next class. From where he was standing, he could tell Sunggyu was listening to music, and his left arm covering his face.

" Why is he laying out here?" He mumbled under his breath. " Isn't it chilly?"

Step by step Woohyun walked closer to Sunggyu. Sunggyu didn't hear or notice Woohyun walking to him since his eyes were covered and he was listening to music. When Woohyun got close enough to Sunggyu, he noticed something red dripping out of Sunggyu's hand. His fist unclenched revealing blood in the palm of his hand.

Before they knew it, both of their pendants grew a bit brighter as Woohyun grabbed Sunggyu's hand and pushed him against a tree nearby. It was lucky that nobody was passing by or else they would think Woohyun is harassing Sunggyu.

Growing a little brighter, yet still so pale, was Woohyun's pendant. Like a bright fire engulfing the sea did Sunggyu's on his neck glow. It could be mistaken that the pendant on Sunggyu could even burn him, but it didn't: it was just warm like a hug from someone you love. Though deep in his heart Sunggyu knew that the pendant wasn't love but hate and anger.

Without noticing, Woohyun's grip on Sunggyu's wrist was tightening making Sunggyu flinch in pain. He didn't even notice Sunggyu in pain. All Woohyun could see was the blood in the latter's palm.

" What is this Sunggyu?! Why is there blood on your palm? What's with you and blood? Tell me!"

No response from Sunggyu. More like Sunggyu couldn't tell him. He didn't want to tell him. Sunggyu would rather keep it to himself than tell it to Woohyun. Knowing that Woohyun is a bit stronger than him, Sunggyu pulled his hand from Woohyun as hard as he could.

" L-Let me go Woohyun. Please."

Anger flamed in Woohyun's eyes as Sunggyu looked at him. In Sunggyu's eyes were sadness, despair, loneliness, and longing. But the other didn't notice it. He still has hate inside him. A hate that hasn't burned out yet.

" No. Now, tell me why you have blood and I will let you go!"

Sunggyu shook his head. " No, I don't have to tell you why I have blood on my palm. It's none of your business. You never cared anyways."

Woohyun's eyes widen at those words. He let go of Sunggyu's hand making it drop to his side. Without looking back, Woohyun turned around.

" Whatever. Do whatever you want. I'm leaving."

Then just like that Woohyun left Sunggyu who dropped to the ground. Sunggyu watched Woohyun leave as he muffled his cries with his hand. Once Woohyun was out of sight, Sunggyu began coughing furiously into his hand. He wrapped his other arm around his stomach clenching it.

A pair of feet appeared before him as he looked up. The person was wearing long robes in colors of purple, gold, silver, and white. The person had red hair too, but before Sunggyu could even catch the person's face, he collapsed into someone's arms. And he didn't fall into the person in the robes arms, but someone elses.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The sunlight harshly hit Sungyeol's face as he woke up. He looked around unfamiliar with his surroudnings until he realized he was sitting next to someone. He really close to someone too.

" M-Myungsoo?" Sungyeol whispered quietly. Myungsoo didn't wake up but he shifted where was sitting.

Sungyeol lifted his head off from Myungsoo's shoulder making the other's head fall onto his shoulder. He blushed at the position they were in but thought nothing of it. Sungyeol took a look around his surroundings and saw the many plants.

Ah, I see. We must be in a greenhouse.

He looked down to see Myungsoo peacefully sleeping. Sungyeol wanted to wake him up but didn't want to either. With these past week, he wanted Myungsoo to just rest. As a friend, he wanted what was best for Myungsoo. Instead waking him up, Sungyeol just placed his head on top of Myungsoo's. With a glance upwards, he saw the sun shining through the glass. Even though it was fall, the sun still shone through.

Slowly, Sungyeol closed his eyes enjoying the warmth radiating off of Myungsoo's body.

----------------------------------------------------------

Help...

Someone save me...

I don't want to die...

Please, save us...

Don't let him die...

A pool of blood surrounded the figure as someone else tried to protect him. The sound of growls echoed throughout the forest. The sound of a body colliding with the tree trunk resonated. The empty sound of snow falling to the ground trying to wash away the blood. But no matter how much fell, the blood kept on pouring out.

A whimper could be heard as it came closer and closer to the body on the ground bleeding out. The whimpers became cries, as it came closer and closer. The other's eyes were closing, his vision being clouded my darkness.

" Please, keep your eyes open. I will save you. I will save you."

Warmth. Warmth filled his body as a soft kiss left his lips. Blood trailed down both lips as the other collapsed next to the one bleeding out.

" See. I saved you. I promise to be by your side wherever you go. I promise. So don't forget me. I won't forget you."

The two bodies laid next to each other with their pinkies entwined.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Myungsoo woke up all of a sudden. The rush of images flooded his head as he clutched it in pain. He remembered that he brought Sungyeol to the greenhouse because the latter was cold. Then he remembered that he fell asleep next to Sungyeol.

He turned his head to still see Sungyeol sleeping and let out a sigh of relief. Sungyeol's body must have moved itself because now his head was lying on Myungsoo's lap. Myungsoo chuckled as he brushed away Sungyeol's bangs the softness of it tingling his fingers.

As Myungsoo looked up at the sky, he saw that it was snowing lightly. The memory of him as a little wolf appeared in his mind, but there was something else too. An image of boy who was probably the same age as him stood in front of him with a smile reaching his eyes.

While Myungsoo was Sungyeol's hair, he couldn't help but smile. Even though they are friends, there was this lingering feeling inside Myungsoo. A feleing he couldn't help but reach for every time it appeared. The same feeling kept on coming back and then disappeared, and it only happens when he was with Sungyeol.

Myungsoo's hand brushed against Sungyeol's necklace. He peeked over and saw that Sungyeol's pendant was glowing a soft blue. Right when Myungsoo was about to touch it, Sungyeol had woken up.

" M-Myungsoo? You're awake?" Sungyeol turned around his face up towards Myungsoo. Sungyeol rubbed the tiredness out of his eyes, but then realized that his head was on Myungsoo's lap. He got up immediately and apologized.

" I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to fall asleep like that!" Myungsoo just waved it off.

" It's no problem, really, don't worry about it."

Both of them got up from the ground. Myungsoo put back on his sweater and gave his jacket to Sungyeol. He looked at Myungsoo with a questioning look until he saw that it was snowing outside.

Like a child, Sungyeol ran up to the window and awed at the snowing falling almost as if they were dancing. Myungsoo couldn't help but laught to himself seeing Sungyeol's child side. He walked up next to Sungyeol and wrapped the jacket around him.

" Here, I don't want you to get cold."

Myungsoo checked what time it was and realized he still have one more class which started in five minutes. As quickly as he could, he grabbed his backpack, and headed for the door.

" Sungyeol, I have to get going! I will see you tomorrow!"

With a smile reaching his eyes, Sungyeol looked towards Myungsoo making his heartbeat stop for a second.

" See you Myungsoo-ah!"

They waved goodbye to each other and Sungyeol turned back to the falling snow. Sungyeol realized he had a class in the afternoon too so he checked his phone. There was about ten minutes left so he grabbed his backpack and ran out of the greenhouse too. Once he made it outside, he took the deep breath and smile. He reached out his hand the snow coming in contact with his palm and melting immediately.

" Winter. I really like winter."

But then a tear slipped out of Sungyeol's eye landing on the ground. He touched his face gently and noticed he was crying. For some reason there was pain in his heart and he couldn't stop crying. No matter how many times he wiped them away, the tears kept on coming out.

" I-Idiot. Why are you crying?"

" Hey, a beautiful face like yours shouldn't be crying."

Sungyeol looked up and his eyes widened.

" H-Henry-sshi."

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunggyu's POV:

I reluctantly opened my eyes and saw I wasn't in class. I took a look at my surroundings and realized that I was in the infirmary. My head begun to spin around as I tried to remember what happened. All I could remember was seeing a figure dressed in robes and then I out.

" Sunggyu-sshi, you're awake!" My head flew up to see Jiyeon-sshi sitting on the chair next to the bed I was laying on.

" J-Jiyeon-sshi, what are you doing here?"

With a smile she replied back to me. " I saw you collapse on the ground so I quickly brought you to the infirmary."

" O-Oh. Wasn't I a bit heavy though?" She shook her head.

" Not one bit! I think you are even lighter than me." Jiyeon-sshi poked my arm and grimaced. " You're just all bones aren't you? Do you even properly eat well?"

I smiled quickly lying to her. " Of course I do. I just lose weight easily."

" Really?! I wish I could lose weight like you do. I'm pretty sure Woo-"

My body flinched at the sound of the door slamming open. My breathing hitched as I looked down at the blazing, red pendant. I grabbed onto it trying to cover it. I didn't even want to see the Woohyun's pendant on me anymore.

" Jiyeon, I've been looking for you everywhere since you weren't in class."

I watched as she got up and hugged Woohyun in front of me. Then it broke my heart, no my heart shattered into a million sharp pieces, as he hugged her back. Right in front of me too.

The million, sharp pieces of my heart that even if I tried to pick it up, I would only cut myself deeply. I pushed out a tight smile and laughed. A laugh that sounded cold and bitter.

" Yah! Why don't you two go get a different room? Or maybe I will just leave."

I saw my backpack on the floor so I quickly grabbed it and ran out of the room. I ran and ran not caring where I end up. But where I did end up, I didn't realize it was in someone else's arms. I must have not noticed I bumped into someone, but that didn't care anymore. It may not be the same hug as Woohyun's, but they were arms that were open for me.

With my head deep into their chest, arms clutching onto their shirt, I cried. I cried till my heart's content. But when will that be? When will it be over? The pain, the heartbreak, the emptiness of my soul: when will it end?

" Shh. Don't cry anymore. You don't need Woohyun anymore. From now on, I will be here for you."

I didn't say anything back but kept on crying. And crying. And crying.

The place where I belong. Where do I belong? Do I belong to the place where someone is thinking of me? Do I go there despite it being the wrong choice? Do I go there even if everyone else will hate me? Whose heart, mind, and soul do I belong to?

" Woohyun... Can you hear me? I want to let you know that isn't the same Jiyeon you used to know."

" ..."

" Woohyun?"

"..."

"... I'm sorry for everything... I'm sorry..."

" Sunggyu..."

"... I'm sorry."

Dongwoo's POV:

I was walking along the hallways when I saw Sunggyu being hugged by someone. I didn't want to get found out so I peeked around the corner. My eyes widen seeing who the person was hugging Sunggyu: the person was Lee Joon.

I looked away and held onto my textbooks tightly. There was this bad feeling in my chest that wasn't going away. I wanted to peel Joon off of Sunggyu, but my body wouldn't move. I was shaking instead. This weak body of mine was shaking.

My knee buckled and I fell to the floor. Images of a red wolf appeared in my head, and blood. Lots of blood over snow. Snow tainted with the blood of others. Then the blinding image of a white wolf with piercing sapphire eyes appeared too. The white wolf was beside another wolf too. A black wolf at that.

The images disappeared in a second, and recoiled from it. I looked around the corner to see the two of them gone. I tried getting up but I kept on falling down. Then I felt myself being lifted up.

" Dongwoo, what are you doing on the ground?" I looked up to see Hoya standing before me with Sunhwa-sshi in tow.

" Yeah, are you alright Dongwoo-sshi? Hoya and I found you here on the ground with blank eyes."

I nodded frantically. I picked up my things and ran out. Once I was outside, I sat down on a bench and closed my eyes.

W-What was that? What did I just see?

" Hi, um, I was wondering if you know where the art building is." I look up from the pair of shoes before me. I didn't recognize this person's face so they must be new. I stood up and held out my hand.

" The building is just over there. How about I take you there? Oh, yeah, my name is Jang Dongwoo. What's yours?"

The guy took my hand and shook it with a smile. The smile: it was nice. Something I haven't seen in a while.

" My name is...

Jung Yunho."
