“Do you think life is still the same out there?”

“What?” Sungjong bent forward a bit, trying to make sure he heard Myungsoo correctly.

“Like, you know. Out there. Not here. What if they have cool flying cars, or something? And we’re missing out on all of it?” Myungsoo sighed, his eyes on the ceiling of the straw house.

“So what if there are? Who cares? We’ll never get to see it anyway, so why bother dreaming about it?”

“Hey…calm down. I’m just saying, you know, what if.”

Sungjong blinked a bit, then played around with his finger and the ground. He always heard Sunggyu and Woohyun talking about it – about getting “out of here”. But Sungjong didn’t want to. He liked it here. Alright, so what if he was only seven, but who cares. He liked it here – he liked spending quality time with Sunggyu, and he liked Woohyun hyung and Myungsoo hyung. He didn’t want to go back.

Besides, if fate dropped the four of them here, there had to be a reason they hadn’t gone back, right?

“You…you ,” Woohyun admitted, shrugging. “I’m sorry. I can’t help you anymore. You are, hands-down, probably the worst fisher I’ve met in my life.”

“I told you I was horrible!” Sunggyu whined, walking over to sit on the rock. “And you still make me come with you.”

Woohyun gave him a little encouraging smile, just to make it seem as if it was a natural thing, to ask your friend to go hunting with you. “What? I just wanted a little bonding time with you.”

“Oh, I think we already bond enough,” Sunggyu replied sarcastically. “We’re living here by ourselves. Who else could I “bond” with?”

Chuckling, Woohyun settled himself beside Sunggyu. “I guess you’re right.”

They sat still there for a second until Woohyun finally perked up and said, “About the money. Are we going to try to find it yet?”

“Do you want to try? I mean, is there even a point in trying to find it? I don’t mean to sound pessimistic or anything…but there’s absolutely no reason in finding it. The money would come in no use at all; we can’t buy anything here! There’s no people here, no stores, no nothing.”     

“But, you know, it’ll still be pretty nice to know we still got some money left,” Woohyun said quietly. “Just in case.”

“In case of what? Some random plane comes and refuses to save us unless we give them money? Totally, Woohyun.”

Sunggyu looked away a few seconds before Woohyun grasped his hand. “Gyu, don’t take this so seriously. It’s just a comfortable feeling, knowing that you have some money with you.”

“I know,” Sunggyu said, his voice getting lower and lower each second. “I just…it scares me, Woohyun. In all absolute honesty, it scares me. That there’s just the four of us here – that maybe, somehow, we’re going to run out of food, or something might happen to Sungjong when we’re not watching him carefully, or…or…I don’t know. It just scares me so much.”

Being the oldest has its burdens, Woohyun thought as he grabbed a hold of Sunggyu and pulled him closer. “It’ll be okay, Sunggyu. Remember, I’m here. Even if everything else fails…I’m here. If that even accounts for anything, that is.”

“It accounts for a lot,” Sunggyu’s muffled voice came out. “A lot more than you’d think.”
