Chapter 3

Winning Hearts

Ryeowook awoke in the morning, sunlight streaming in through the translucent white curtains of Kyuhyun’s bedroom. The bed sheets were familiar Egyptian cotton. He felt the taller male’s body pressed against his backside, both arms tangled around his waist. Soft breathing filled Ryeowook’s head and he smiled, playing with the overly long sleeves of the shirt he had worn to sleep. It smelled like his boss, sort of sweet, but mostly rich and intoxicating. Closing his eyes for a brief moment, he imagined what it would be like if he really did accept Kyuhyun.

Every morning, when he woke up with that body protecting him, cradling him, he felt his resolve crack bit by bit. It would be so easy to just let it all go and be with Kyuhyun. They were already living together, sleeping together, eating, working, vacationing…as much as Ryeowook denied it, they really were married.

No one else knew him as well as Kyuhyun did, and vice versa. They were a natural born pair, yet every time he came close to saying that he would let go of the past, the past came back to haunt him.

Disentangling their bodies, Ryeowook sat up, closing his eyes to try and steady the world. Everything was spinning and he needed a second. Getting up after a long minute, he shuffled to the bathroom, the edge of Kyuhyun’s night shirt brushing against the bare skin of his thighs. Yawning, Ryeowook closed the door behind him and started his morning routine.

Morning Schedule:

Take a shower

Brush teeth

Wash face

Get dressed

Put on makeup

Do hair

(It’s really not as feminine as it sounds…)

Make breakfast

Wake up Kyuhyun

Check the news

Read over the day’s agenda

That morning, they were having traditional Korean food. Recently, Kyuhyun had been eating too much Italian and quite honestly, his stomach hadn’t been sitting well with him. Ryeowook was getting tired of going out to buy medicine for the man. They would be going on an all Korean diet until his stomach was regulated again.

Walking back into bedroom, he saw Kyuhyun starting to wake himself up. Chuckling, Ryeowook climbed on top of him, brushing the messy hair from his face. “Wake up, Kyu,” he smiled.

“Mm…,” he mumbled, pinching his eyes shut and trying to roll away, “I don’t wanna…”

“I made breakfast already, though,” Ryeowook argued playfully, pinning the taller man down by sitting on his hips. Pressing the palms of his hands into Kyuhyun’s chest, he shook him a little. “Get up, get up!”

Kyuhyun groaned, pushing the smaller male off of him. “You’re so annoying,” he growled, stumbling out of bed, slamming the bathroom door shut.

Ryeowook just giggled though, hopping off of the bed and heading back into the main room. The sun was rising over the city, devouring the pale blue of dawn. Sitting down at the breakfast table, he pulled out his phone, skimming over the headlines before closing that window and pulling up the schedule for the morning.

Twenty minutes later, Kyuhyun came out of the bedroom looking relatively put together. His hair was made, his clothes were on, but his tie was crooked. Ryeowook stood up, walking over and correcting it. “The food is ready, so eat before it gets any colder.”

“Why don’t you wake me up before you make breakfast?” he mumbled.

“Because I have to do other things,” Ryeowook responded, smiling when he got the tie to the perfect position. Brushing his hand over the silk material, he nodded softly and looked up at Kyuhyun. “Miss Im Yoona—”

He shook his head, kissing the shorter male to shut him up. “We still have an hour before we’re in office mode. Don’t you dare try talking about work.”

Ryeowook closed his eyes, sighing under his breath. “Alright,” he sat down at the breakfast table again and started eating.

“Good,” Kyuhyun stated firmly, taking his own seat and beginning to eat. He looked across the surface, eyes warm with something tender. “Where do you want to go this year for Christmas?”

“Paris, maybe?” he murmured.

“Do you have anything you want?”

Ryeowook shook his head no. “Anything is fine.” He glanced out the panoramic windows again, imagining what the skyline would look like when snow began falling. It was still the last week of October, but soon enough it would be November and then December. Snow would be pouring down on their city.

“There’s a new restaurant I want to eat at tonight,” Kyuhyun remarked after swallowing a mouthful of food, “Do I have any dinner plans scheduled?”

“I thought you didn’t want to talk about work yet,” he teased.

The dark haired male grimaced. “Just tell me.”

“No, you don’t have any plans,” Ryeowook chuckled.

“Then will you go eat with me?”

“You’re going to get pudgy if you keep eating heavy food like that,” he scolded, receiving an annoyed glare. Ryeowook set his bowl down and laughed a little, reaching across the table to touch Kyuhyun’s hand. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding. We can go out to eat.”

“Yeah, that’s what I thought.” Kyuhyun laced their fingers, refusing to release Ryeowook as they finished eating one handed.

its been 11 years since the story was completed, im super late but i just wanna say THANK YOU. thank you for giving us this beautiful Kyuwook love story. although at some point in the story, i was secretly hoping they wouldn't end up together, as much as i love kyuwook with all my heart, i just felt like they've hurt each other enough that even love couldn't begin to fix what they had, but as I was nearing the end of the story, thank you for proving me wrong. 2 broken individuals, dealing with their own issues, the haunting past and uncertainties of the future, but somehow they managed to make things work and made LOVE be enough, not to pick up where they left off, but to START anew, as healed individuals, and persons who understood how genuine and sincere love could give life so much more meaning.
I love both stories to bits, however, i've got a few questions that im afraid will be left unaswered lol.

Firstly, did Kyuhyun ever find out that it was Ryeowook who saved him years ago? I feel like it played a very important role in the story, esp Kyu's life, but there was no other mention of it, only that Victoria found the journal. no further mention/referenced about it, so i guess Kyu didn't find out and neither Wookie. But in the journal, Kyu did say he wanted to fall in love with that person, i can only imagine the fluff had they found out it was them all along.
Secondly, i haven't fully grasped what kind of game Kyu & Siwon were playing, 'cept those little snippets of bets where they toyed around, but the intensity of the game wasn't revealed, nor how it came to be. Esp at a later part where Kyu seemed helpless and afraid of Siwon and the latter seemed to be claiming ownership over Kyu. Just how big was the game?
Thirdly, what ever happened to Kyuhyun's letter? Did it ever reach Ryeowook? but i doubt it, Ryeo would've gone crazy (in a good way) about it after Kyu's confession, esp since he was starting to realize just how much the man had meant to him. So im guessing Siwon found out about it and interfered making sure it didn't reach Ryeowook? hence, he forged a reply and gave that to Kyu instead.
Fourthly, still regarding Kyu's letter, when he went to Ryeowook's hometown and love confessions were exchanged, he did mention about the letter and the supposed reply, surely that raised questions in Ryeowook's head, but why didn't he ask about them? he only processed about how the CD got to Kyuhyun but failed to question about the letters.
Fifthly, why was Dae-jung in their care? It was mentioned of them as godparents, but what happened to his real parents, why was the kid under Kyuwook's care? Also, was little Hyungsik a surrogate baby, or was he adopted? Appa Kyu was just too cute :))
Sixthly, i got a little confused cause in the prequel, Hyungsik was in his senior high school year and Ryeo a freshman college, so i figured he was gone soon after school started, cause it was summertime when they decided to move in together, and were only together for a few months. BUT, in the sequel, why did it say it's only been 4 years since Hyungsik left? I mean if you counted Ryewook's college years, which i assumed was 4 years, then he started working right away after graduation, and it had been 3 years since he started working for Kyu, shouldn't that be at least 7 years since Hyungsik was gone?
Seventhly, If the bracelet that Ryeowook gave to Kyuhyun was the same one as the one Hyungsik gave, what significance did the writings "Do You See What I See" had on Kyuhyun? How did the engraving connect to their love story in some ways?
Lastly, as silly as it may seem, how did Ryeowook party with the girls that had his eyes filled with horror and disgust? :DDDDD HAHAH poor Wookie :D

But really, I enjoyed the 2 stories, and once again THANK YOU for sharing their beautiful love story with us :)

Hopefully this comment won't be too long like the other one.... btw, this will be my 10th comment so FINALLY I can upvote your stories!! You deserve it so fcking much! *spoilers ahead*
Um! Yeah. I. Loved. It. From beginning till the end. Like. I finished it in not even 6 hours. And had only 5 hours of sleep. And miraculously passed the driving exam. Hahahaha.... (you'll be hearing from me often from now on since I'm starting to get too addicted on KW :x oh, and be prepared for a lot of blabbering, my specialty). If you read the comment of mine in Across Time, there was this one point I wanted to talk about a lot. Not gonna spoil that story here so let's keep it in relation with this one. You know how often in TV dramas and books and fictions in general, whenever something baaaaaad happens to one of the two MCs, the other always somehow finds a way to reach them and save them? Well, that so does not happen in life all the time. Like, seriously. So, imagine my mild surprise when throughout the story, KyuWook went from ups and downs and were able to stand up again not only with each others' help, but mainly with the help of other people around them? I loved it so much when Changtoria helped Wook with dealing with Hyungsik's case as well as being there for him when he was at his lowest (while Kyu was still unaware so far away). And thank the flowers in all the world that Wook was quite stable when they met again... true, I would love it if Kyu was there to help Wook too, don't get me wrong... but being pulled up by other people, finding that support somewhere else is SO FRIGGING IMPORTANT I so can't stress that enough.
BUT! There was this one part that bugged me a little... and that was when Kyu was manipulated by Siwon and Wook didn't help him much (despite seeing his personality change)... actually, noone, not even Changmin helped Kyu back then. I was really worried about him, you know? TT.TT Changmin didn't even trust Kyu enough and try to reach him. And still, it actually was Ryeowook who saved Kyuhyun then, because Kyuhyun couldn't stop loving him, couldn't stop wishing to be with him. I'm not sure if Kyuhyun ever realized Wook is the same person who saved him, I thought he did hence he fell in love with him, but after reading the chapter about Kyu realizing his feelings, that thought kinda vanished (or did he realize it then that it was the same person?). Though maybe, they shared more things we didn't see (I mean, who wouldn't get curious about what their loved one was doing in the 4 months you didn't see them and was crazy about them?).
The last thing I'm gonna say.... I was expecting to read about Kyuhyun trying for Ryeowook since day one and then was pleasantly welcomed by them already living together xD the first ~~15 chapters were so damn fluffy I might need to screenshot them or something to read when I have too much time xD Thank you for writing this piece!

Chapter 52: I can't believe I just read whole thing, 50 chapters, in a row, straight, with no break at all, in less than one day. And my national exam is next week. Ah fk, my eyes are burning now from staring at my phone for too long. I'm a mess and I'm suffering from all these feels you've given me through this story.

Thank you for writing this amazing story. I especially loved the beggining parts of the story. Secretary Ryeowook dealing with fussy Boss Kyuhyun was a great delight to read. Best concept ever.

The one part that i have a problem with was that Kyuhyun never found out that his past saviour with the initials "R" or "L" was Ryeowook. I was really looking forward to that part and wished we got some closure on that.
