The Fiancee: Day 5

Winning Hearts

Day 5 – Tuesday, December 19th

Kyuhyun sat uncomfortably at the same damn table with the same damn people, except this time Victoria sat beside him and their parents eagerly gazed upon them from across the dinner. He glowered at the candle in the center of the table, avoiding their expectant eyes.

There was no doubt the woman’s parents were confident in her ability to catch the heart of a man.

There was also clear confidence on Mr. and Mrs. Cho’s faces. They had little fear that their son would defy them to the extent of marriage. It was just a power agreement. Why would Kyuhyun disagree with that?

All the while, both members of the arrangement were steadily falling for the same boy.

Earlier that Day…

“Ryeowook…”

“What is it, Mr. Cho?”

“It’s been two days,” Kyuhyun said softly, eyes filled with sensitive emotion, “I…I didn’t mean to snap at you like that.”

“I’m sure that’s the case. Please file this properly, Mr. Cho.” Ryeowook handed him an envelope of papers, turning towards the door.

He stood up, catching the boy’s arm. “Please give up this grudge,” he sighed, “being at home is already stressful. I don’t want work to be any more stressful. What I said that night,” Kyuhyun clenched his fists, embarrassment staining his voice, “I don’t like the idea of you talking to someone else familiarly. You’ve been only mine for so long. I don’t know how to deal with you making friends, especially with the woman who’s supposedly my future wife.”

Ryeowook exhaled, slowly shifting around to look at Kyuhyun. “…I think you have reason to worry.”

“What?” his eyes widened, jaw slackening.

“No, no, not like that…exactly,” Ryeowook dropped his head, color rushing up his neck. “She, uhm last night I was giving her advice on how to get a stain out of her shirt…and she made a move on me.”

Kyuhyun’s arm fell, a weight slumped his shoulders.

The Previous Evening…

“Are you two fighting?” Victoria inquired hesitantly. She was sitting at the kitchen table, scrubbing at a spot on a blouse.

Ryeowook supervised her work, a cup of tea in front of him. “Not particularly,” he shook his head, “when Kyuhyun throws tantrums, I wait for him to come and acknowledge what he did wrong, or just let it pass by because it’s not worth arguing over.”

“You know how to handle him so well,” she made a noise of appreciation, “Is there a class you took?”

He laughed, sipping the hot drink. “No, I’ve just lived with him for a long time. I’ve caught on to some things.”

Victoria looked down at her blouse and smiled brightly. “Oh look! It’s coming out!”

“Hmm? Really?” Ryeowook asked amused, leaning over to look at her handiwork.

As he did so, she leaned forward as well, coming too close to his face. They froze there, Ryeowook awkwardly chuckling and trying to pull away. Victoria stopped him though, closing the distance swiftly. Her lips touched his and he stayed rigidly in place.

It was a never ending moment. Well, it felt like that at least.

Ryeowook’s unblinking eyes gazed into nothingness as Victoria quickly fumbled to her feet. “I-I’m going to bed.” And then she was gone.

Kyuhyun stifled a snort, shooting the woman beside him a cold glare. Who did she think she was? How could she simply kiss Ryeowook like that? Rolling his eyes, he scooted his chair subtly away from her.

“So…how have things been going thus far? We know that you two still have a couple of days together, but we just wanted to check in,” Mrs. Song prompted.

“She has great potential as a wife,” Kyuhyun responded, seeing hope fill the four people across the table, “for someone else, not me.” They deflated. He hid a smirk. “I don’t enjoy her cooking, or behavior. I would most likely treat her terribly and I’m positive that as parents you wouldn’t wish that sort of pain on your daughter.”

Victoria nodded in agreement with him, but added, “He’s right. We aren’t compatible, but I feel that with more time, we could work things out.”

Kyuhyun shot her a warning look. She returned it.

“Oh, that’s good, that’s good,” Mrs. Song nodded in relief. “I knew you two would figure something out.”

“Uhm, no, not quite,” Kyuhyun interrupted tightly.

Victoria grabbed his arm, pulling him away from the table. The pair walked out of earshot and immediately glared at one another, harsh words hissing in the small space.

“How dare you attack my roommate like that!” Kyuhyun whisper-yelled.

“Look, these five days haven’t been that terrible. I know you aren’t actually that upset with my behavior and cooking,” she stated.

“That’s what you think,” he bit back childishly.

She rolled her eyes. “I won’t get in your way. If we let our parents think that we’re getting along, we can have a marriage for them. It doesn’t matter if we like each other or not. That way, you can do whatever it is your bachelors do, and I can keep on living with Ryeowook.” Victoria flushed.

Kyuhyun pushed her back against the wall with mere waves of anger. “You are not getting with Ryeowook.”

“What’s wrong with that?” she demanded, “I know that I can get through to him. I…I just need some time and then I’m sure he would accept me.”

“I’m already dating him,” Kyuhyun snapped, “That’s why you can’t have him.”

The air stilled.

Kyuhyun had a sinking feeling all of a sudden. What…the did I just say? He stared frantically at Victoria, dragging her further away from the restaurant’s bustling tables. “Listen to me, that’s not what I meant to say—”

“—that doesn’t make it any less true,” she cut in. Victoria wrenched her arm free. “You’re…you’re gay?”

He grimaced, “You make it sound like a disease. Don’t you know that Ryeowook is too, then?”

“That’s different,” she argued, “he’s so cute…and sweet. I’m sure that if I told him how I truly feel, he wouldn’t be against dating a girl.”

Kyuhyun suppressed a growl. “Your views are naïve and unrealistic.”

“Coming from the grown man who needs other people to take care of him,” Victoria shot back.

“I don’t need them to take care of me,” he quipped, “I enjoy being taken care of. There’s a difference. That’s beside the point though. You’re not getting anywhere near Ryeowook again.”

“You wanna bet?” Victoria smirked, shoving Kyuhyun back and rushing back into the restaurant.

“Dammit!” he stumbled after her, only managing to catch up by the time she was already back at the table.

Victoria leaned forward, smiling at the pair of confused parents. “I want to continue this trial. Since we aren’t married yet though, after these two days, I would like to move in next door to Kyuhyun. That way we can still spend time together while figuring out our compatibility levels.”

It was already too late for Kyuhyun to get a single word in. He stared at the group of people planning out his life and all he could feel was power slipping out of his fingers as the walls closed in around him.

“You know, I heard from Kyuhyun’s secretary that he’ll be travelling to Paris this Christmas,” Mrs. Cho remarked, “Victoria, you and your girlfriends could go meet up with him. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind.”

Kyuhyun looked at his mother blankly. He said nothing though.

“Yes, that sounds great,” Victoria agreed, grinning happily. If the world really felt like Ryeowook and she weren’t meant to give each other a shot, why was everything falling into place for it?

its been 11 years since the story was completed, im super late but i just wanna say THANK YOU. thank you for giving us this beautiful Kyuwook love story. although at some point in the story, i was secretly hoping they wouldn't end up together, as much as i love kyuwook with all my heart, i just felt like they've hurt each other enough that even love couldn't begin to fix what they had, but as I was nearing the end of the story, thank you for proving me wrong. 2 broken individuals, dealing with their own issues, the haunting past and uncertainties of the future, but somehow they managed to make things work and made LOVE be enough, not to pick up where they left off, but to START anew, as healed individuals, and persons who understood how genuine and sincere love could give life so much more meaning.
I love both stories to bits, however, i've got a few questions that im afraid will be left unaswered lol.

Firstly, did Kyuhyun ever find out that it was Ryeowook who saved him years ago? I feel like it played a very important role in the story, esp Kyu's life, but there was no other mention of it, only that Victoria found the journal. no further mention/referenced about it, so i guess Kyu didn't find out and neither Wookie. But in the journal, Kyu did say he wanted to fall in love with that person, i can only imagine the fluff had they found out it was them all along.
Secondly, i haven't fully grasped what kind of game Kyu & Siwon were playing, 'cept those little snippets of bets where they toyed around, but the intensity of the game wasn't revealed, nor how it came to be. Esp at a later part where Kyu seemed helpless and afraid of Siwon and the latter seemed to be claiming ownership over Kyu. Just how big was the game?
Thirdly, what ever happened to Kyuhyun's letter? Did it ever reach Ryeowook? but i doubt it, Ryeo would've gone crazy (in a good way) about it after Kyu's confession, esp since he was starting to realize just how much the man had meant to him. So im guessing Siwon found out about it and interfered making sure it didn't reach Ryeowook? hence, he forged a reply and gave that to Kyu instead.
Fourthly, still regarding Kyu's letter, when he went to Ryeowook's hometown and love confessions were exchanged, he did mention about the letter and the supposed reply, surely that raised questions in Ryeowook's head, but why didn't he ask about them? he only processed about how the CD got to Kyuhyun but failed to question about the letters.
Fifthly, why was Dae-jung in their care? It was mentioned of them as godparents, but what happened to his real parents, why was the kid under Kyuwook's care? Also, was little Hyungsik a surrogate baby, or was he adopted? Appa Kyu was just too cute :))
Sixthly, i got a little confused cause in the prequel, Hyungsik was in his senior high school year and Ryeo a freshman college, so i figured he was gone soon after school started, cause it was summertime when they decided to move in together, and were only together for a few months. BUT, in the sequel, why did it say it's only been 4 years since Hyungsik left? I mean if you counted Ryewook's college years, which i assumed was 4 years, then he started working right away after graduation, and it had been 3 years since he started working for Kyu, shouldn't that be at least 7 years since Hyungsik was gone?
Seventhly, If the bracelet that Ryeowook gave to Kyuhyun was the same one as the one Hyungsik gave, what significance did the writings "Do You See What I See" had on Kyuhyun? How did the engraving connect to their love story in some ways?
Lastly, as silly as it may seem, how did Ryeowook party with the girls that had his eyes filled with horror and disgust? :DDDDD HAHAH poor Wookie :D

But really, I enjoyed the 2 stories, and once again THANK YOU for sharing their beautiful love story with us :)

Hopefully this comment won't be too long like the other one.... btw, this will be my 10th comment so FINALLY I can upvote your stories!! You deserve it so fcking much! *spoilers ahead*
Um! Yeah. I. Loved. It. From beginning till the end. Like. I finished it in not even 6 hours. And had only 5 hours of sleep. And miraculously passed the driving exam. Hahahaha.... (you'll be hearing from me often from now on since I'm starting to get too addicted on KW :x oh, and be prepared for a lot of blabbering, my specialty). If you read the comment of mine in Across Time, there was this one point I wanted to talk about a lot. Not gonna spoil that story here so let's keep it in relation with this one. You know how often in TV dramas and books and fictions in general, whenever something baaaaaad happens to one of the two MCs, the other always somehow finds a way to reach them and save them? Well, that so does not happen in life all the time. Like, seriously. So, imagine my mild surprise when throughout the story, KyuWook went from ups and downs and were able to stand up again not only with each others' help, but mainly with the help of other people around them? I loved it so much when Changtoria helped Wook with dealing with Hyungsik's case as well as being there for him when he was at his lowest (while Kyu was still unaware so far away). And thank the flowers in all the world that Wook was quite stable when they met again... true, I would love it if Kyu was there to help Wook too, don't get me wrong... but being pulled up by other people, finding that support somewhere else is SO FRIGGING IMPORTANT I so can't stress that enough.
BUT! There was this one part that bugged me a little... and that was when Kyu was manipulated by Siwon and Wook didn't help him much (despite seeing his personality change)... actually, noone, not even Changmin helped Kyu back then. I was really worried about him, you know? TT.TT Changmin didn't even trust Kyu enough and try to reach him. And still, it actually was Ryeowook who saved Kyuhyun then, because Kyuhyun couldn't stop loving him, couldn't stop wishing to be with him. I'm not sure if Kyuhyun ever realized Wook is the same person who saved him, I thought he did hence he fell in love with him, but after reading the chapter about Kyu realizing his feelings, that thought kinda vanished (or did he realize it then that it was the same person?). Though maybe, they shared more things we didn't see (I mean, who wouldn't get curious about what their loved one was doing in the 4 months you didn't see them and was crazy about them?).
The last thing I'm gonna say.... I was expecting to read about Kyuhyun trying for Ryeowook since day one and then was pleasantly welcomed by them already living together xD the first ~~15 chapters were so damn fluffy I might need to screenshot them or something to read when I have too much time xD Thank you for writing this piece!

Chapter 52: I can't believe I just read whole thing, 50 chapters, in a row, straight, with no break at all, in less than one day. And my national exam is next week. Ah fk, my eyes are burning now from staring at my phone for too long. I'm a mess and I'm suffering from all these feels you've given me through this story.

Thank you for writing this amazing story. I especially loved the beggining parts of the story. Secretary Ryeowook dealing with fussy Boss Kyuhyun was a great delight to read. Best concept ever.

The one part that i have a problem with was that Kyuhyun never found out that his past saviour with the initials "R" or "L" was Ryeowook. I was really looking forward to that part and wished we got some closure on that.
