Chapter 9: Berserk

My heart beat like a drum in my ears. I stared down at Shenbad's cold, lifeless body. His blood spilling out all around us. His expression almost as if he were smiling...

Why did it have to come down to this?

Why?

I waited for what seemed like an eternity. This was joke, right? Shenbad wasn't really gone. At any moment he would get up, light a cigarette and say, "gotcha! You should see the look on your face!"...right?

I waited.

I looked at my shaking hands blankly. They were covered in blood. Shenbad's blood.

This was a joke, right?

A joke...

This was...

This...

....

...

My body moved on its own. Everything around me was a blur. When I came to, I had Shenbad's sword clutched tightly in my hands like as if it were my own life. I moved through the small town, hunting and slicing down everything that moved.

"You're the reason he's gone." I spat, decapitating another zombie. "I'll kill you all...I'll kill you all...I'll kill you all!!!"

Everything went blurry again and my body moved on its own.

Cuts and bruises decorated my body. I had a large cut across my chest that I had no memory of getting. My whole body was sore and aching...corpses laid all around my feet. None had their heads still intact. Trembling, I dropped Shenbad's sword and cried, the numbness had faded and all that was left was sadness and desperation. I sat there crying and screaming for who knows how long...

After my throat had become horse and dry and my eyes puffy and red, I picked up Shenbad's sword and stood. Slowly, I began walking back to base. The sky had become dark, and clouds covered the sky, threatening to rain.

"Ruri!" Lucy exclaimed, pulling me in a tight hug. "What happened?! You're covered in blood and dripping wet! Where in the world were you?! Where is..."

Pushing her away, I continued walking. I held Shenbad's sword tightly in my hand, dragging it across the ground and leaving a trail of blood. Suddenly, a chill ran down my spine and I passed out.

Dear Diary,

I have no memory of writing that last entry...It's kinda...freaky. The last few days have been...

Let's just say I don't remember anything. It's strange, but no matter how sad I get, I can't cry. Lucy is trying her best to comfort me, but I like being alone best...Shenbad...

It seems impossible, but Lucy told me I wiped out just about every single zombie in this whole town. Not even that makes me happy...

Everytime I think about Shenbad, my heart seems to physically hurt. It's like as if my chest caves in. I wonder if...I'll ever get over it. They say only time can heal a broken heart...but can it mend the scars too? I'm...scared but now I don't even have anyone to tell this to. Shenbad's sword is always by my side now. I can't seem to part with it...

Axel and Lexa are finished with the plane. They just need to check out a couple things before we fly. Our destination is Germany...

I'm flying.
