You still smelled of hot coffees and newspapers like you always had.
The lights turned out. You sneaked in beside me and put the blanket over your body. I could see you breathe, your chest moving up and down, and up again. Your lips were tight. And I bet they were warm. You looked tired but still looked handsome as ever. Maybe not when you are awake because you always had that signature grin and mocking look on your face.
“You are not supposed to giggle at a sleeping person, Joohyun.” Your lips twitched into a smile.
“I did not mean to wake you. Sorry.”
I softly wrapped my arms around your chest, the smile still on my face. My head leaned closer. And now I could feel your broad shoulders against my cheeks. You still smelled of hot coffees and newspapers. And I loved it because I remember the times we used to spend together in college. At a nearby coffee shop. Right after our classes.
Now it is just you and me.
(And the memories we had in between.)
“Are you sure that he’s coming?” Yuri raised her brow at me. Her hands on some business permits and proposals. The clock just ticked six thirty behind her. Now, the room felt lonely.
It was just the two of us now in the office. Me and my work buddy of five years. We met at law school and became best friends since then. Lucky enough, we got accepted in this law firm and so, our friendship continues. It is no wonder how Yuri came to be my bride’s maid and why she knows me and Kyuhyun, and our relationship like her favorite article in the constitution.
“Kyuhyun is going to pick me up. I reminded him earlier about it. Besides, today is our third anniversary as a married couple. He will remember that.” I gave her a smile (which I think turned out to look sad. Or hopeful. It looked the same to me, anyway).
“Of course, he will.” Yuri flipped the papers, running her hand on the edges before putting them back to the envelope.
But it turned out half an hour later that Kyuhyun did not send a single message to me. I looked at my watch, hoping for a miracle that it is five the short hand is pointing at and not seven. But it did. There is no question to that.
“It’s already late for an over time.”
