Prologue

Standing in front of the door Kadence took a deep breath.  Just moments before she had received a phone call asking her to proceed to Kim Bongsun’s office; which left her rather nervous.  As the second in charge of SM Entertainment it was his job to deal with all the employees of the company.  Kadence was pretty certain that she hadn’t done anything to warrant firing, though she was still uncertain.

Knocking lightly on the door she was told to enter and took a timid step into the room.  Kim Bongsun was sitting behind a large, glass topped desk and upon seeing her he shot her a small smile, beckoning her forward.

“You asked to see me sir?”

“Yes, yes, take a seat Kadence,” he urged and she did his bidding, the leather chair feeling slightly sticky despite the air-conditioning.  “You’ve been with us for a little while now, haven’t you?”

“Eight months now sir,” she answered and he nodded, clicking at something on his computer before folding his hands in front of him.

“It has come to my attention that over that time you have shown exceptional dedication and skill despite occasional difficulties with the Korean language and here at SM we like to reward our staff,” he started and Kadence clenched the edges of her chair, wondering where he was leading.  “We wish to offer you a promotion, if you accept you will be working as a personal assistant among the staff tending to our new group EXO-M.”

She blinked several times as she soaked in his words.  When he mentioned a reward she was thinking something along the lines of a free lunch or an afternoon off, not the honour of a promotion.  She thought about the offer, a branch of career that would see her get out of the office building regularly and from the few interactions she had, had with the boys they seemed fairly nice.

“Well?”

“Oh, sorry.  Thank you very much for the offer, I would be honoured to accept it,” she said, pushing her chair back so that she could give a full bow.  He nodded in acknowledgement, before tilting his head to the side slightly.

“It is completely optional... are you sure you’re happy to accept?”

“Of course, the offer simply caught me off guard.  Thank you again,” she assured him and he offered her another smile, one she gladly returned.  He held out a hand and she shook it, bowing once more.

“Very good, starting tomorrow morning you will report to Lee Minah on the third floor at seven o’clock,” Kim Bongsun ordered and Kadence nodded, thanking him for a final time before heading for the door.  Life was about to get a whole lot more interesting.
