‘Daehyun –ah!~ Wait for me.’ You gasped for breath as you finally caught up

with Daehyun at the school gate.

He didn’t stop walking but you still manage to catch up with him as he fasten his pace.

 

‘Why are you in a rush?’ You asked to be ignored.

 

As the school was out of vision,

he finally pulled of his mask with a scowl on his face.

 

‘What’s up with you?’ You asked, poking him arm.

He stopped and looked at you.

 

‘Don’t be so friendly with me in school.’ He stopped on his tracks and said.

 

‘Why not?’ You looked taken aback.

 

He looked away and muttered softly,

‘because everyone will think you’re a freak like me.’

 

Your eyes widened as you shook your head and crossed your arms.

‘No! No no. Daehyun, you’re not a freak. You’re special. No one else is like you.’

 

He gave you an unconvincing look but you just smiled widely at him,

hoping that he’ll believe it.

He sighed.

Maybe he didn’t want to talk anymore so you just smiled at him

thinking that he gave up arguing.

 

‘I’ll treat you to ice-cream.’ Daehyun said smugly.

Daehyun and you sat on the bench when you first met.

You looked at him as he his ice-cream.

His deep black orbs looking out to the distant, his long eyelashes that batted every millisecond,

his sharp nose and a perfect jawline.

 

You sighed to yourself.

He is indeed handsome but why would he want to cover all those handsome features with an ugly mask?

 

Without thinking you accidentally blurted out the question,

receiving a look from Daehyun.

You mentally slapped yourself for being so careless.

 

‘Do you really want to know why?’ He asked as you nodded your head like a puppy instantly.

 

‘I was in middle school and there was this girl that i once loved a lot.

I confessed to her in front of the whole school but she made fun of me by calling me an ugly freak

that belonged to an asylum and that i shouldn’t live in this world.

She was popular and so after she called me that,

everyone did and soon they all isolated me.

After that i changed school.

Ever since then, i started wearing a mask.’ He sighed.

 

You looked at him in shock.

How could a girl be so disgustingly rude and not think of his feelings?  

Thinking of itmade the pits of your stomach burn.

Oh how you wanted to slap that girl across the face.

 

‘I didn’t know love could do such horrible things to you.’

You said softly but loud enough for him to hear.

 

‘Love is not always beautiful, you know.’ He forced a smile.

Daehyun felt better after telling you his deepest secret.

He didn’t know why but he was glad he did.

It felt like a knife was pulled away from his heart but his heart was still hurt and bleeding.

 

You stayed quietly your ice-cream until you’re done.

 

‘Daehyun, i’ve always thought love was the one thing that humans seek for.

Because of that, i have always thought that love was a wonderful thing and i still believe so.’

You said, looking into his black orbs.

 

‘What are you trying to say?’

 

‘I’ll prove to you that love is a wonderful thing.’ You smiled.

 

‘You don’t even know what is it.’ He sighed.

 

‘This is why you will have to teach me fast!’ You grinned.

 

‘~~~~~-ah, love is something you’ll have to experience it yourself.’

Daehyun massaged his temples as you just laughed.

 

‘I will. Very soon after you teach me.’

 

‘I’ve said that love cannot he taught.’ Daehyun groaned.

 

‘But you have made the contract with me.

You’ll have to think of all sorts of way to teach me or you’ll die a slow yet painful death.’

You said with a sly smile on your face, teasing him.

 

‘Right...’

 

‘Oh before i forget.’ You fumbled on your blazer’s pocket and fished out a small purple amulet.

‘Wear this around your neck.’

 

‘Why?’ Daehyun stared at that piece of antic.

 

‘It’ll protect you from those spirits that tries to harm you.’ You explained and threw it around his neck.

 

‘It looks ugly..’ Daehyun complained as you shot him a glare.

 

‘Hey, i made that just for you so you better be grateful human.’

You snarled at him.

He grumbled a thanks as you mutter ‘ungrateful humans’ under your breath soft enough just for you to hear.

 

‘Does it really work?’ He asked, unconvinced.

 

‘Why do you think that no spirits will try to harm a half human like me now?’

 

Daehyun thought for a while before acknowledging it.

 

‘Tsk. Brat.’ You stuck you tongue out at him as he chuckled.

 

You liked seeing Daehyun like this.

Laughing and smiling.

Not like when he is in school.

 

Somehow you wished for the world to see him like this too.

Appreciate him for who he is not to judge him.
