Dance To the Melody

Myungsoo’s POV

Dinner at our table was loud as usual, imagine 6 guys (excluding me) were either talking or laughing at the same time. Dongwoo and Hoya were telling Woohyun about the pranks that they’ve set up around the boy’s dormitory for unlucky freshmen. Their laughs were so loud that it attracted unwanted attention, while Sungyeol was gossiping with Sungjong and Sunggyu. I don’t mind if it was someone else, but it gets annoying when they start gossiping about me.

“…. he shouted ‘NOOO!’ right in the middle of the scene ruining our performance… I think he’s just jealous…”

“Really? Do you think he likes her?” Sungjong eyed Sungyeol curiously.

“Dunno, maybe… ‘cause he asked her to be his dance partner afterwards,” Sungyeol shrugged his shoulders.

“But everyone knows that she can’t dance… why would he asked her…?”

“I think he lost his mind…” Woohyun joined in.

“I just hoped that it won’t affect our practice…” Sunggyu sighed.

“Well she’s pretty in a way…” Dongwoo suddenly becomes serious.

“Yah! I’m still here you know!” I slammed the dining table.

Everyone then stopped talking and gave me weird looks, but it only lasted for a couple of seconds before they continued on talking again.

 “See, I told you he lost his mind…”

I scoffed. that’s it; if they’re going to keep on gossiping about me then I’ll just leave. Feeling irritated I stood up and started to walk away.

“Myungsoo boy, where are you going?” Dongwoo called after me.

“Yah, we were just joking. You know us, don’t take it to heart,” Hoya reassured me.

“You’re just too innocent that we couldn’t help teasing you,” Woohyun gave me a foolish grin.

I smirked, “Whatever guys, I’m just going to the dance studio.”

“Okay, just don’t stay up too late. We have practice tomorrow,” Sunggyu reminded me.

“Roger that!” I saluted before heading out.

~~~~~~
When I stepped into the studio, Eunhee was already there scanning through the songs selection near the stereo.
“Sorry I’m a little late, dinner at our table can be hectic at times,” I apologized, scratching my head.
She looked up and gave me that breath taking smile she always has, “It’s okay, looking at you guys I sometimes wished that I have more friends who are fun, caring, trustworthy, and supportive like them.”
“Yeah, I’m grateful to have them… but they can be annoying at times,” I rolled my eyes.
I walked over to her and started to scan through the songs selection too, “Have you found a song that you want to dance to?”
“Hmm, not yet… after observing the dance steps through their videos, most of them are still kind of hard for me to follow. I don’t know why you picked me as your dance partner but literally I can’t dance you know…,” she sighed.
“Come on, everyone can dance. Show me, it can’t be that bad…”
“Okay, but please don’t laugh at me,” Eunhee then picked a song and got ready; it was SHINee’s Ring Ding Dong.
Even if she only danced to the chorus part which to me was uncomplicated, she still got some of them wrong and at some part she was off beat. I pursed my lips, trying hard not to laugh.
“There how was it…?” she skeptically looked at me.
I let out a deep sigh, “You still have a lot to work on… You’re stiff like a log…”
Eunhee hung her head low, “I knew it…”
I don’t like seeing her feeling down like this, I know that she can improve and I’ve decided that I’m going to help her.
I then took hold of her hand and dragged her out of the studio, “Come with me, and bring your jacket with you.”
“Where are we going?” her eyes were wide in surprise as she tried to keep up.
“The stadium, we’re going jogging.”
“What? Jogging at this hour? and isn’t the stadium closed?” she pouted.
“Eunhee-ah, you need to do some exercises to loosen up a bit and to build up your stamina too. As for the other problem, we can always jump through the back gate,” I gave her a mischievous grin.
When she heard the last part her eyes grew even wider, I chuckled seeing her cute expression.
~~~~~~

When we finally got inside the stadium after jumping through the gate with difficulty, we went straight towards the track and field area.

“Myungsoo-ah, you better not get me into trouble… I’ve done enough punishments here already…” she sounded worried and nervous.

“Hey, don’t worry about it. The stadium is practically deserted at this hour,” I reassured her.

“Exactly…” I heard her mumble.

When we got to the middle of the field, I stopped and faced her, “Alright, before we start jogging, I’m going to teach you some stretches that’ll help improve your flexibility and to prevent injuries. I’m sure you’ve learned some of them from dance class. Eunhee-ah, form today onwards I want you to do these stretches before you go to sleep, after you wake up, and before any dance practices.”

She listened with such stern eyes and merely nodded. I then showed her the neck isolations, the hip swing, and then the leg stretches which consists of the quadriceps, hamstrings and calves, leg swings, and finally the lunge stretch.

Eunhee followed with not much difficulty since the stretches are pretty simple, but she still can’t do the lunge stretch properly. Seeing this, I probably won’t push her to do the splits yet.

“Do I have to do this every day…?” she groaned.

“Yup, and no excuses. The exam is in 4 months so we need to train and practice intensively.”

She gave another sigh of protest.

I’m sorry Eunhee-ah, but it’s for your own good anyway…

After we’re done with warming up, I took her to the tracks, “And now, let’s run three rounds around the stadium. I’ll run with you just for the first round.”

“What! But one round is already 800m, and you want me to do three rounds!? And why are you running for the first round only…?” she complained.

“I have dance practice with the boys tomorrow so I’m not going to tire myself tonight… he, he…,” I grinned as we started to run.

“Excuses…,” murmured Eunhee as she slightly pouted.

I chuckled, no wonder Sungyeol likes to so much, she’s cute…

~~~~~~
After running for one round, I took a break and sat down on the grass. Eunhee merong-ed at me as she continued to run around the stadium, I merely sniggered.
She may be complaining at first but her face showed determination when she runs and she kept her pace. She gave peace signs while grinning as she ran past me; I returned it with a smile and a wave.
When she was finally done with her three rounds, she lay down on the grass beside me in exhaustion.
“It’s tiring… but somehow… I feel good…” said Eunhee as she gasped for air.
“Then from now on, you should at least run or jog for 30mins everyday to build up your stamina,” I told her as I too, lay down beside her.
“I won't complain this time... Myungsoo-ah, thank you for asking me to become your partner and for helping me… It means a lot…”
I turned to look at her; she was facing upwards gazing at the night sky. My lips curled into a lopsided smile, “You’re welcome, isn’t that what friends are for…?”
She then turned to face me and gave me that breath taking smile; I swear I felt a zing pass through me. I averted my gaze and turned to stare at the night sky hoping that she won’t see me blushed.
“So, what song should we dance to?” I asked.
“Hmm… I don’t know… how about 2PM’s I’ll Be Back? There’s a running part in it,” she giggled.
“Yah, that’s easy…”
“Easy for you it is…”
“Fine, if you want to do that then let’s do it. I can always try to improvise on my part later on.”
“But don’t improvise too much that it’ll make me look bad…” she pouted.
I laughed, “Don’t worry Enunhee-ah, you’ll do just great…”
Then we both became silent, lost in our own thoughts. We stayed like this for a while, gazing at the stars above us. Somehow being with her like this, I felt happy and carefree. I wished time would just stop.
After some time, I softly heard a deep but steady breathing from Eunhee. I then turned to face her, as I expected, she had fallen asleep. I smirked, Dongwoo was right she’s pretty, even when she’s asleep. Seeing how tired she looked, I don’t have the heart to wake her.
I slowly tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear. I guess I’ll be giving her a piggyback ride back to the dorm…
Eunhee’s POV
I was woken up by someone repeatedly banging on the door. I lazily sat up, rubbed my eyes, and blinked a few times. Eh? How did I end up here in my room? The last thing I remembered I was still at the stadium with Myungsoo…
Then I heard the banging again. Aissh… Where did E-Young got to this early in the morning anyways? I then got up from bed and walked over to the door. I sighed; my body still felt a little sore from all that running last night.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
“Alright, Alright, I’m coming!!” I shouted. Who in the world is banging on my door at this time of day?
I unlocked the door and yanked it open, “Yah! Could you kee-…”
I was greeted by Jihyun who was glaring at me with such fiery eyes that I choked in my own words.
“You!” she snarled.
I took a few steps back as she barged into my room slammed the door shut. Okay… what did I do wrong this time?
 “Keep your hands off Myungsoo! He’s mine…” she growled, poking me on the chest.
“Whoa, whoa… I didn’t do anything, I swear!” I said, trying to back her off.
She scoffed, “Liar! I saw you being carried in here by Myungsoo last night.”
“Oh, so that’s how I got in here…” I scratched my head.
“Yah! Don’t act all innocent as if you don’t know!” she pushed me hard; almost making me lost my balance.
I gritted my teeth; if my body isn’t aching this badly right now I will surely attack this girl. All I can do was just returned her fierce glare.
“I must’ve fallen asleep; it’s not as if I deliberately asked him to carry me. And for your information, the last time I checked he’s not even taken. How could you even say that he’s yours?” I counter attacked her.
Jihyun then came closer to me, “As if you have a chance, I’m warning you Eunhee, I already have my eyes on Myungsso. So keep your hands off him or else… This is the first of many, there’s more to come so be warned…” her whispers ran shivers through my spine.
She gave me one last push before heading for the door. After a few steps, she turned around, “Oh, I also heard that you’re his dance partner. I wonder how you even seduced him; you have neither the looks nor the talent… Let’s just see how long you’ll last,” she sneered.
With that, Jihyun finally walked out of my room and the door closed with a click. I sighed in relief, it’s a good thing that I don’t have the energy to fight her back or it’ll surely end up in a catfight.
I ruffled my hair and went back to lie down on my bed. I didn’t know that being Myungsoo’s dance partner for just one project can be this complicated…
There are certain factors that can explain why 4Minute don't seem to be in high spirits to pull off a strong, captivating performance. Myungsoo is sharp to be able to notice this. Since they seem to be just doing it for show, there's no passion in their performance. It's like they've lost their touch when they don't know what dancing truly is anymore to them--like its value becomes lost to them over time. This happens to one's interest that doesn't become a passion. Passion is what keeps one grounded and focused on his/her lifelong dream/goal. Another possible factor could be anxiety about going up against The Syndicate in the showdown if they're worried about whether the band's performance would overpower theirs.
Great job with the details. Though, 4Minute's part seems to be lacking. I understand that it's hard for you to describe their dance routine since this isn't your area of interest. Anybody can get an idea of how their performance looks like from watching video clips of 2NE1 performing "I Am The Best."
xD Sungjong and his divaness... Myungsoo is glad to have his friend back. It had been awkward and tense between the two of them when Sungyeol kept avoiding him after seeing the two sleeping next to each other. That didn't make it easy for him to be worried about his best friend. From watching her perform, Myungsoo understands Eunhee's love of music by the passion that she puts into her performance. It's like a reflection of himself in the way that he feels about dancing. Being a dance expert himself, it's easy for him to pick out any flaws in 4Minute's choreography. He could make a great dance teacher. With his help, Eunhee can improve on her dancing in time for the dance off between Jihyun and her. When there's a chance, he could make it up to her and apologize for his behavior towards her that one evening. "Sleepless Dream" is a nice song. For the audience to be moved by it, it must be a song that reaches out to them in spirit in which they can relate to it. The reaction from Eunhee, E-Young, and Injoon at the end can either be good or bad. Judging from the response they received from the audience as they were performing, it's likely that they've come out as the winner of this showdown. There's no doubt that Myungsoo and Sungyeol are among those who've voted for The Syndicate to show their support.
4Minute did come off as flashy in their performance since they're aiming to impress the audience with their dance moves. Being flashy isn't enough for a performance to move the audience. What's lacking in their performance is connection with the people watching them. This is what The Syndicate's performance has. It's what makes them the winner in this case.
Hearing his confession seemed to have pulled somewhat on her heart strings. After an awkward pause, it looked like she shrugged it off and remarked jokingly to ease the tension in the air. Since she didn't know how else to respond, she figured that making light of the situation is the best way to go.
It's good that Sungyeol is speaking to Myungsoo again. Even though he was being harsh towards her, Myungsoo does care about her and mean well. Since he loves her, he's already forgiven her in his heart. The concern that's evident in his tone of voice proves it. Sungyeol's got a point, though. Myungsoo did come off as insensitive by not being understanding of her and her position. It seems that Sungyeol has matured despite his childish demeanor in order for him to say this to him. He is slowly turning into a man. Love can change a person.
So, Eunhee is not so oblivious after all. She is aware of her own feelings as well as others' around her. For her to not have the heart to reject him, she must be worried about hurting Sungyeol's feelings and causing a rift between them. He did a nice thing for her by being there for her when she needs to be comforted and some cheering up, so it won't feel right to her to kill the mood by turning him down. She is considerate to be concerned about his feelings. However, she's giving him false hope by not letting him know that she doesn't feel the same way. It's not awkward to tell him that she likes him as a friend or a brother. That's better than pushing him away or not showing any sign that she cares for him in some way. At least Sungyeol has the chance to prove himself to Eunhee in expressing his love for her. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Then he'd know when to give up with no regrets once he discovered that she doesn't return his feelings. It would be easier for him to let her go then so that she could be happy with the one she truly loves.
Do your best to describe the showdown in detail.
I've decided to point out some mistakes I've spotted to help you improve on your English writing skills. It would be too much if I point out every single one. This is just to give you an idea of what to work on.
Some Ch. 17 mistakes:
I like you Eunhee
* Comma after "you"
why thank you there Sungyeol.
* Comma after "there"
I like you too my friend
* Comma after "too"
* Note: In some sentences, a pair of commas is needed to separate the title (like "my friend") or the name of the person from the entire phrase to make the whole thing flow smoothly when it serves as an interruption.
Example: This, my friend, is a Kitara.
I stopped on my tracks and placed my hand over my chest.
* The preposition should be "in" instead of "on."
You made her cry for God sake!
Correction: God's sake
She hasn’t made up her mind yet so I still have a chance
* Comma after "yet"
But if you ever make her cry again, I will certainly not let you go Myungsoo
* Comma after "go"
I turned my back on him as I pulled up the covers, leaving him there flabbergasted.
Correction: leaving him flabbergasted there
The showdown and showcase is nearing, plus I still need to improve my dancing skills.
Correction: The showdown and the showcase are nearing; plus, I still need to improve my dancing skills.
I gradually closed my eyes and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #1: I gradually closed my eyes, and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #2: I gradually closed my eyes. With a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
The Kitara looks like one hi-tech, cool instrument. I saw a little of how it works by checking out LED Apple, which you'd mentioned to me in one of your previous messages.
We can see how Eunhee came to love and appreciate music. It's because she was influenced by her father at a very young age. He taught her everything he knows about music. Through music, the two share a special bond. That's why she feels so strongly about music. It reminds her of her deceased father. In memory of him, she pours her heart and soul into the music she creates and plays.
