Dance To the Melody

Myungsoo’s POV

“What’s with all that commotion?” Woohyun asked, looking out the window as we made our way to the dining room.

I shrugged. “It’s probably a fight or something. Come on, I’m hungry!” I said as I half pulled Woohyun.

“But, but, I want to see…” he whined.

However, while I was pulling Woohyun to the dining room I saw someone else was being dragged across the hall. It was Injoon and Eunhee, and they were running towards the commotion that was happening at the backyard.

Seeing the distressed look on her face, I had a gut feeling that it had something to do with her. This made me curious so I turned left and followed them.

“Umm Myungsoo, isn’t the dining room the other way round?!” Woohyun called after me.

“I changed my mind! I want to see what the commotion’s all about!” I said to him, half running.

As we pushed our way through the crowd, I overheard some of the students talking.

“I really feel sorry for the owner…”

“Who would’ve thought someone has a grudge on her…”

“It does look kind of worn out but this is just not right…”

Hearing them made my curiosity tingled even more. What had actually happened here? And who exactly is involved?

When we finally stepped into the clearing, I was taken aback by the scene in front of me. I heard Woohyun gasped.

“This is murder! Who would actually do this?” Woohyun half whispered.

Sited on top of a pile of bricks and stones was a broken or should I say brutally wrecked guitar. The neck and fingerboard had been snapped into three parts while the strings had been cut off and were strewn around. As for the body, it looked as if someone had been stomping on it. The guitar was badly mutilated that there was no way that it could be fixed. There was even a threatening note with words ‘YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED’ written on it. The person who did this certainly has no heart.

Then I faintly heard a sob. I looked over to my right and saw Eunhee dropped down on her knees with tears streaming down her face. I glanced over to the broken guitar then at Eunhee again; don’t tell me that it was her guitar…

“Poor Eunhee…” said Woohyun with a sad look on his face.

Seeing the pain in her teary eyes was heartbreaking. I really wanted to put my arms around her and soothe her somehow but I was rooted in place, speechless.

I saw E-Young approached her but suddenly Eunhee stood up and all that pain was replaced by rage and anger. She then exhaled deeply and I faintly heard her growled, “You will pay for this!” before she stormed back inside.

As I stood there, my eyes followed her furious figure, feeling totally bewildered.

Eunhee’s POV

This was totally out of line; I couldn’t believe that she would do something as horrible like that. How could she be so heartless?! Images of my mutilated guitar went flashing in and my eyes started to tear up again.

“My poor guitar…” I sobbed, remembering the priceless memories I had with it.

The rage inside of me then started to build up again and my pace quickened. I clenched my left hand into a fist and I wiped my excess tears with the other.

“You will pay for this Jihyun!” I hissed as I stormed my way to the dance studio at the end of the hall.

I slammed the door open and went straight towards Jihyun who was practicing with the rest of 4MINUTE.

“You!” I growled, giving them the most intensive glare I’ve got.

I saw Jihyun smirked. “I guess she found it,” I slightly heard her say to the other members.

When I was just a few steps away from her, she turned to me with that malicious smile of hers. Without hesitation I raised my hand and slapped her hard. I heard someone gasped while others stared at me with shock, speechless.

“How could you! What makes it your right to just steal someone’s property and destroyed it?! That guitar was precious to me! I’ve been patient with all of your other warnings but you’ve just crossed over the line!” I ranted on.

She gave a chuckle while rubbing her cheek. “What are you going to do then Eunhee? Report me? You know very well that you don’t have proof,” she sneered.

That did it; I lunged forward and impulsively attacked Jihyun. But before I could even grabbed her, Hyuna and Jiyoon got hold of my arms and pulled me back.

“Let go of me!” I growled at them as I struggled to get free.

Jihyun then slowly walked towards me. “Now, now, don’t want to get into a fight now do we? I, unlike you, have a clean record. So if both of us got into trouble, I most likely get a warning while you might get expelled. You don’t want that to happen now do you?” she whispered.

Jihyun took a step back. “So, what are you going to do now then Eunhee?” she mockingly asked.

 “Fine! Let’s have a battle!” I spat at her.

Jihyun crossed her arms and tilted her head. “What kind of battle?”

I freed myself from the two girls and regained my posture. “What I mean is a showdown between your dance group and my band! The winner will be determined by the votes from the student body.”

Jihyun smirked. “Deal! If you win, I’ll stop all the warnings and leave you alone but if I win, you have to step down as Myungsoo’s dance partner and leave him alone.”

“Deal!”

“But what happens if it’s a tie?” asked Hyuna.

“Then we’ll do another one, but a one on one dance battle this time,” Jihyun sneered.

I gritted my teeth, “Fine, that’s just a mere motivation for me to win the showdown anyway.”

Jihyun laughed. “Don’t forget that you’re up against the second best dance group after INFINTE here, get ready to lose Eunhee!”

I hissed, “Whatever Jihyun! Just get ready for our next meeting at the auditorium a week from now!”

With that I my heel and marched back out of the dance studio, slamming the door shut.

~~~~~~
After giving my guitar a proper burial, I slowly walked back to my room. Rubbing my temple, I heaved a deep sigh. This was just too much for me to bear, but what else can I do other than to go through with it?
I opened the door to find that E-Young and Injoon were already there waiting for me. Both of them being worried, I could tell.
“Eunhee-ah, you okay…?” asked E-Young, still with that sad look on her face.
I slightly smiled at her before collapsing on my bed.
“Don’t worry guys… I’ll get through this…” I murmured.
After a few minutes of silence, I decided to bring up the news about the showdown.
“Guys, there’s something that I need to tell you… We’ll be having a showdown against 4MINUTE in a week’s time,” I softy speak, breaking up the silence.
“We heard. News spread fast around here…” uttered Injoon, running his fingers through his hair.
“What are we going to do then Eunhee? Are you going to play the keyboard and recruit someone to play the guitar?” E-Young asked curiously.
I sighed and stared at the ceiling. “There’s no time for that E-Young… but for the showcase, we will recruit someone. As for what I’ll play, I want to leave a deep and strong impression so I guess I’ll be playing ‘that’ instrument which is under my bed.”
E-Young eyes grew wide. “Are you really going to play that…?” she half whispered.
“Yup, I may have lost my beloved instrument today, but I do still have my Kitara…” I darkly answered.
There are certain factors that can explain why 4Minute don't seem to be in high spirits to pull off a strong, captivating performance. Myungsoo is sharp to be able to notice this. Since they seem to be just doing it for show, there's no passion in their performance. It's like they've lost their touch when they don't know what dancing truly is anymore to them--like its value becomes lost to them over time. This happens to one's interest that doesn't become a passion. Passion is what keeps one grounded and focused on his/her lifelong dream/goal. Another possible factor could be anxiety about going up against The Syndicate in the showdown if they're worried about whether the band's performance would overpower theirs.
Great job with the details. Though, 4Minute's part seems to be lacking. I understand that it's hard for you to describe their dance routine since this isn't your area of interest. Anybody can get an idea of how their performance looks like from watching video clips of 2NE1 performing "I Am The Best."
xD Sungjong and his divaness... Myungsoo is glad to have his friend back. It had been awkward and tense between the two of them when Sungyeol kept avoiding him after seeing the two sleeping next to each other. That didn't make it easy for him to be worried about his best friend. From watching her perform, Myungsoo understands Eunhee's love of music by the passion that she puts into her performance. It's like a reflection of himself in the way that he feels about dancing. Being a dance expert himself, it's easy for him to pick out any flaws in 4Minute's choreography. He could make a great dance teacher. With his help, Eunhee can improve on her dancing in time for the dance off between Jihyun and her. When there's a chance, he could make it up to her and apologize for his behavior towards her that one evening. "Sleepless Dream" is a nice song. For the audience to be moved by it, it must be a song that reaches out to them in spirit in which they can relate to it. The reaction from Eunhee, E-Young, and Injoon at the end can either be good or bad. Judging from the response they received from the audience as they were performing, it's likely that they've come out as the winner of this showdown. There's no doubt that Myungsoo and Sungyeol are among those who've voted for The Syndicate to show their support.
4Minute did come off as flashy in their performance since they're aiming to impress the audience with their dance moves. Being flashy isn't enough for a performance to move the audience. What's lacking in their performance is connection with the people watching them. This is what The Syndicate's performance has. It's what makes them the winner in this case.
Hearing his confession seemed to have pulled somewhat on her heart strings. After an awkward pause, it looked like she shrugged it off and remarked jokingly to ease the tension in the air. Since she didn't know how else to respond, she figured that making light of the situation is the best way to go.
It's good that Sungyeol is speaking to Myungsoo again. Even though he was being harsh towards her, Myungsoo does care about her and mean well. Since he loves her, he's already forgiven her in his heart. The concern that's evident in his tone of voice proves it. Sungyeol's got a point, though. Myungsoo did come off as insensitive by not being understanding of her and her position. It seems that Sungyeol has matured despite his childish demeanor in order for him to say this to him. He is slowly turning into a man. Love can change a person.
So, Eunhee is not so oblivious after all. She is aware of her own feelings as well as others' around her. For her to not have the heart to reject him, she must be worried about hurting Sungyeol's feelings and causing a rift between them. He did a nice thing for her by being there for her when she needs to be comforted and some cheering up, so it won't feel right to her to kill the mood by turning him down. She is considerate to be concerned about his feelings. However, she's giving him false hope by not letting him know that she doesn't feel the same way. It's not awkward to tell him that she likes him as a friend or a brother. That's better than pushing him away or not showing any sign that she cares for him in some way. At least Sungyeol has the chance to prove himself to Eunhee in expressing his love for her. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Then he'd know when to give up with no regrets once he discovered that she doesn't return his feelings. It would be easier for him to let her go then so that she could be happy with the one she truly loves.
Do your best to describe the showdown in detail.
I've decided to point out some mistakes I've spotted to help you improve on your English writing skills. It would be too much if I point out every single one. This is just to give you an idea of what to work on.
Some Ch. 17 mistakes:
I like you Eunhee
* Comma after "you"
why thank you there Sungyeol.
* Comma after "there"
I like you too my friend
* Comma after "too"
* Note: In some sentences, a pair of commas is needed to separate the title (like "my friend") or the name of the person from the entire phrase to make the whole thing flow smoothly when it serves as an interruption.
Example: This, my friend, is a Kitara.
I stopped on my tracks and placed my hand over my chest.
* The preposition should be "in" instead of "on."
You made her cry for God sake!
Correction: God's sake
She hasn’t made up her mind yet so I still have a chance
* Comma after "yet"
But if you ever make her cry again, I will certainly not let you go Myungsoo
* Comma after "go"
I turned my back on him as I pulled up the covers, leaving him there flabbergasted.
Correction: leaving him flabbergasted there
The showdown and showcase is nearing, plus I still need to improve my dancing skills.
Correction: The showdown and the showcase are nearing; plus, I still need to improve my dancing skills.
I gradually closed my eyes and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #1: I gradually closed my eyes, and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #2: I gradually closed my eyes. With a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
The Kitara looks like one hi-tech, cool instrument. I saw a little of how it works by checking out LED Apple, which you'd mentioned to me in one of your previous messages.
We can see how Eunhee came to love and appreciate music. It's because she was influenced by her father at a very young age. He taught her everything he knows about music. Through music, the two share a special bond. That's why she feels so strongly about music. It reminds her of her deceased father. In memory of him, she pours her heart and soul into the music she creates and plays.
