Dance To the Melody

Sungyeol's POV

“I hate Sundays… I hate doing laundry…” I grumbled to myself while heading for the laundry room.

I can’t believe I lost AGAIN to a game of ‘rock, paper, and scissors’ against Sungjong and Myungsoo. How can they even win when they were half asleep? Sunday morning is the time when I should be sleeping in and relaxing not doing this stupid laundry…

Holding he laundry basket full of smelly and dirty clothes, I kicked open the door. I set down the basket near the first washing machine I set my eyes on and start shoving in the dirty clothes with annoyance. After they were all in, I ripped opened the packet of detergent and poured it in.

At the corner of eye, I noticed that someone else was there in the laundry room. I looked to my right and saw Eunhee sitting down on a chair with her earphones on. How come she didn’t notice me coming in…?

I then noticed that her eyes were closed. Ah, she must’ve dozed off while waiting for her laundry. I chuckled to myself; she sure can fall asleep anytime and anywhere, just like Myungsoo… I then turned my attention back to what I was doing.

Oh , I poured too much detergent! Should I try to scoop it back out? But I’ll look stupid if Eunhee wakes up and found me scooping up detergent. Ah well, the clothes will be much cleaner anyways.

I closed the lid of the washing machine and turned it on. Now I’ll just have to patiently wait. Hmmm… should I go or stay here and keep Eunhee company?

Wait, I have a much better idea….

I took a chair and placed it in front of her. I sat down, took out my phone and set on the camera. I had a plan in mind; I’m going to pinch her nose until she wakes up and capture her expression with my camera. It’ll be priceless; I can’t even stop giggling just by thinking about it.

I held out my hand and was just about to pinch her nose when suddenly her eyes shot open. It took me by surprise that I literally fell of the chair.

“Ouch…” I grimaced as I rubbed my .

“Sungyeol-ah, what are you doing on the floor?” Eunhee gave me a weird look as she pulls out her earphones.

I got up, dusted myself off and cleared my throat, “Erhm, it’s none of your business why I was on the floor… I’m just here doing laundry.”

I can’t believe my plan totally backfired on me.

“You didn’t do anything to me while I was taking a nap did you?” she gave me a skeptical look.

 “Y-Y-Yah, I told you I’m here to do laundry. Why should I be doing something to you…?”

She rolled her eyes, “Sure... if you didn’t do anything then you must’ve been planning something.”

Eunhee then got up, walked towards a dryer and took out her fresh, clean clothes.

“By the way, the washing machine you’re using is giving out weird noises,” she said a matter of factly as she folds her clothes into a basket.

*blub, blub, blub*

It sure was. I quickly looked over and saw that it was spitting out foam and bubbles. Seeing this, I quickly ran to the machine and started to scoop away the foam. In a state of panic I was pushing all the different buttons hoping that it’ll stop. But it didn’t, instead more foam and bubbles came out which made me panic even more.

What should I do!? If the head dorm finds out about this, I’m dead meat…

I turned to Eunhee, “Eunhee-ah, help me with this will you?” I looked at her desperately.

She shrugged, picked up her basket and was heading straight for the door, “Sorry there Sungyeol, it’s your own problem.”

Just before she could reach for the door, I grabbed hold of her hand but accidently pulled it too hard that she slipped on some of the foam that was on the floor. Her clothes went flying and we both fell on the floor, with Eunhee on top of me, half covered in foam.

I got lost in her eyes for a moment there, which were staring widely back at me. Then in a blink of an eye, it turned into a death glare.

“Yah! Why did you do that for!? Look what you did to my clean clothes you idiot!” she got up and started attacking me with foam.

“Sorry…” I gave her an apologetic grin while rubbing the back of my neck.

I guess it didn’t work because she suddenly went frantic, attacking me with whatever she can get her hands on. She was even spraying me with water and I was literally trying my best to defend myself.

“Why are you always doing this to me!? Why can’t you stop picking on me and just leave me alone!?” she screamed.

I really couldn’t stop her this time; guess I’ve reached the limit… But then at the corner of my eye, I saw Eunhee’s eyes were starting to tear up. There’s only one thing that I can do to make her stop.

I moved forward and pulled her into a hug putting aside that we were both soaking wet, “I’m really sorry Eunhee-ah, it was an accident and I was in a panic… please stop… I swear I won’t bother you anymore… I’m sorry that I’ve crossed the line… so please stop…”

“Let go you idiot!” she was hitting me and tried to push me away, but I didn’t let go and tightened my hold on her.

Eventually she stopped, breathing hard; she rested her head on my shoulder. I heard her sniffled a little, but what surprised me was that she didn’t cry.

“I’m sorry Eunhee-ah… Feel better now…?” I whispered to her.

Without lifting her head up, she nodded. I smiled; well I guess she needs to let out all that feelings and stress once in a while.

Eunhee’s POV

I was deeply in thought as I lightly brushed my wet, long hair. Sungyeol wasn’t like himself today, he actually apologized to me. But was he telling me the truth? Will he stop bothering me from now on? Well his apology sounds sincere though… but I just couldn’t make myself to trust him that easily…

As I placed down my brush, something caught my eyes. Oh shoot! I forgot that I have band practice with the guys! I quickly grabbed on to my worn out acoustic guitar, the music sheets that I saw and hurriedly heads out for the music room.

~~~~~
“Yah! Where have you been? We’ve been waiting for you for what like hours! It’s a good thing that we didn’t go and bail on you….” Injoon went straight on firing at me with irritation when I finally just stepped into the room.
“You told me you were doing the laundry, don’t tell me you had trouble with it,” E-Young raised her eyebrow.
I scratched my head and gave them the sweetest smile I’ve got, “He, he, he something like that… I’m really sorry I was late; I know you guys don’t like waiting… But if I tell you guys that I’ve finished writing the song will you guys forgive me?”
E-Young’s eyes widen, “Really? Then you’re completely forgiven! Let me see!”
Injoon who was twirling his drumstick was still sulking, “Even if you finished the song, I still won’t forgive you that easily…”
I laughed seeing both of their reactions as I handed out the music sheets. “I know that it’s not perfect, so if you guys have any inputs don’t hesitate to tell me.”
“As if we would hesitate...” muttered E-Young as she scanned through the sheet.
“Hmmm, there’s something missing though… Eunhee-ah, there’s no lyrics,” stated Injoon, holding up the music sheet
“He, he, he… don’t worry, I’m still working on it,” I gave him a peace sign.
“Well should we try practicing it?” E-Young looked at the both of us, picking up her bass.
 “Sure, why not!” I immediately grabbed my guitar.
~~~~~~

“Guys! Guys! Stop!” I shouted over the noise.

Both of them stopped to what they were doing and gave me a confused look.

“Is there something wrong Eunhee-ah?” asked E-Young.

“The song does sounds kinda new and fresh, but there’s nothing wrong on my side,” uttered Injoon.

“No, there’s nothing wrong … it just feels different, like something is missing…” I stated.

“Ah, I know what you mean! I think this song needs that ‘Rock’ kind of feel,” Injoon’s face lights up.

I clicked my fingers, “That’s it! We need to add an electric guitar and maybe keyboard!”

“Meaning we’ll be adding new members too?”

“Gotcha! But maybe just one new member cuz I can switch to keyboard and we don’t need to use the acoustic guitar.”

“Alright then, let’s talk about this later and just continue on practicing.”

~~~~~~
“AAACCHHOO!” I sneezed for the sixth time.
I heard both of them stopped playing their instruments once again.
E-Young sat closer to me and asked, “Eunhee-ah, you okay? You look kinda red…”
“I think so…” I sniffed. But she wasn’t convinced and placed her hand on my forehead.
“Maybe we should just wrap it up here,” Injoon gave me a worried look.
E-Young sighed and gave a nod, “I think we should, you’re burning up, Eunhee-ah…”
There are certain factors that can explain why 4Minute don't seem to be in high spirits to pull off a strong, captivating performance. Myungsoo is sharp to be able to notice this. Since they seem to be just doing it for show, there's no passion in their performance. It's like they've lost their touch when they don't know what dancing truly is anymore to them--like its value becomes lost to them over time. This happens to one's interest that doesn't become a passion. Passion is what keeps one grounded and focused on his/her lifelong dream/goal. Another possible factor could be anxiety about going up against The Syndicate in the showdown if they're worried about whether the band's performance would overpower theirs.
Great job with the details. Though, 4Minute's part seems to be lacking. I understand that it's hard for you to describe their dance routine since this isn't your area of interest. Anybody can get an idea of how their performance looks like from watching video clips of 2NE1 performing "I Am The Best."
xD Sungjong and his divaness... Myungsoo is glad to have his friend back. It had been awkward and tense between the two of them when Sungyeol kept avoiding him after seeing the two sleeping next to each other. That didn't make it easy for him to be worried about his best friend. From watching her perform, Myungsoo understands Eunhee's love of music by the passion that she puts into her performance. It's like a reflection of himself in the way that he feels about dancing. Being a dance expert himself, it's easy for him to pick out any flaws in 4Minute's choreography. He could make a great dance teacher. With his help, Eunhee can improve on her dancing in time for the dance off between Jihyun and her. When there's a chance, he could make it up to her and apologize for his behavior towards her that one evening. "Sleepless Dream" is a nice song. For the audience to be moved by it, it must be a song that reaches out to them in spirit in which they can relate to it. The reaction from Eunhee, E-Young, and Injoon at the end can either be good or bad. Judging from the response they received from the audience as they were performing, it's likely that they've come out as the winner of this showdown. There's no doubt that Myungsoo and Sungyeol are among those who've voted for The Syndicate to show their support.
4Minute did come off as flashy in their performance since they're aiming to impress the audience with their dance moves. Being flashy isn't enough for a performance to move the audience. What's lacking in their performance is connection with the people watching them. This is what The Syndicate's performance has. It's what makes them the winner in this case.
Hearing his confession seemed to have pulled somewhat on her heart strings. After an awkward pause, it looked like she shrugged it off and remarked jokingly to ease the tension in the air. Since she didn't know how else to respond, she figured that making light of the situation is the best way to go.
It's good that Sungyeol is speaking to Myungsoo again. Even though he was being harsh towards her, Myungsoo does care about her and mean well. Since he loves her, he's already forgiven her in his heart. The concern that's evident in his tone of voice proves it. Sungyeol's got a point, though. Myungsoo did come off as insensitive by not being understanding of her and her position. It seems that Sungyeol has matured despite his childish demeanor in order for him to say this to him. He is slowly turning into a man. Love can change a person.
So, Eunhee is not so oblivious after all. She is aware of her own feelings as well as others' around her. For her to not have the heart to reject him, she must be worried about hurting Sungyeol's feelings and causing a rift between them. He did a nice thing for her by being there for her when she needs to be comforted and some cheering up, so it won't feel right to her to kill the mood by turning him down. She is considerate to be concerned about his feelings. However, she's giving him false hope by not letting him know that she doesn't feel the same way. It's not awkward to tell him that she likes him as a friend or a brother. That's better than pushing him away or not showing any sign that she cares for him in some way. At least Sungyeol has the chance to prove himself to Eunhee in expressing his love for her. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Then he'd know when to give up with no regrets once he discovered that she doesn't return his feelings. It would be easier for him to let her go then so that she could be happy with the one she truly loves.
Do your best to describe the showdown in detail.
I've decided to point out some mistakes I've spotted to help you improve on your English writing skills. It would be too much if I point out every single one. This is just to give you an idea of what to work on.
Some Ch. 17 mistakes:
I like you Eunhee
* Comma after "you"
why thank you there Sungyeol.
* Comma after "there"
I like you too my friend
* Comma after "too"
* Note: In some sentences, a pair of commas is needed to separate the title (like "my friend") or the name of the person from the entire phrase to make the whole thing flow smoothly when it serves as an interruption.
Example: This, my friend, is a Kitara.
I stopped on my tracks and placed my hand over my chest.
* The preposition should be "in" instead of "on."
You made her cry for God sake!
Correction: God's sake
She hasn’t made up her mind yet so I still have a chance
* Comma after "yet"
But if you ever make her cry again, I will certainly not let you go Myungsoo
* Comma after "go"
I turned my back on him as I pulled up the covers, leaving him there flabbergasted.
Correction: leaving him flabbergasted there
The showdown and showcase is nearing, plus I still need to improve my dancing skills.
Correction: The showdown and the showcase are nearing; plus, I still need to improve my dancing skills.
I gradually closed my eyes and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #1: I gradually closed my eyes, and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #2: I gradually closed my eyes. With a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
The Kitara looks like one hi-tech, cool instrument. I saw a little of how it works by checking out LED Apple, which you'd mentioned to me in one of your previous messages.
We can see how Eunhee came to love and appreciate music. It's because she was influenced by her father at a very young age. He taught her everything he knows about music. Through music, the two share a special bond. That's why she feels so strongly about music. It reminds her of her deceased father. In memory of him, she pours her heart and soul into the music she creates and plays.
