Dance To the Melody

Eunhee’s POV

I was constantly tapping my fingers on the dining table, replaying the scene of what had happened today over and over again. Then I remembered that I haven’t properly apologized to him. How can I be so stupid…?

Is Myungsoo alright? I thought I saw him limping out of the dining room just then. Is he mad at me? If he is, then why isn’t he saying anything…? This makes it scarier…

“Aishh, stupid, stupid, stupid…” I buried my face in my hands.

“Why are you calling yourself stupid?” asked E-Young while she  Injoon took their place in front of me.

I lifted my head and sadly answered, “I had a bad day today…”

“Tell us what happened,” Injoon was eyeing me curiously.

“Well apart from being punished and late for homeroom this morning, I tripped down the stairs and took down Myungsoo with me…”

“What!?” both of them exclaimed.

“The Myungsoo…”

“INFINITE Myungsoo!?”

I solemnly nodded, “And I think I hurt his ankle…”

“Daebak…” Injoon whispered.

I smacked his head.

“Was he angry at you?” asked E-Young.

I shook then nodded my head, “I’m not sure… He didn’t say anything; Sungyeol was the one who got angry at me…”

“That Sungyeol, he can’t stop picking arguments with you can he…” sighed Injoon.

“Furthermore, I got detention again and this time with both Sungyeol & Myungsoo… I don’t think I can be in the same room alone with those two…”  I groaned.

“Good luck Eunhee-ah,” E-Young patted my hand.

“Thanks…” I murmured.

“So… for the annual showcase, what are we going to do?” asked E-Young, changing the topic.

“What we always do…” shrugged Injoon.

“Which means forming a band and playing live again?” E-Young raised her eyebrows.

“Yeah, why not? The crowd loved us last year, especially me…” Injoon leaned back on his seat.

“Yeah right,” E-Young slapped his shoulder.

“You know I can’t dance… If you want to do something new then maybe we could sing a ballad?” I suggested.

“No way, singing a ballad doesn’t fit my image,” Injoon disagreed.

“Fine then, let’s just stick with the first option…” sighed E-Young.

“Speaking of which, have you composed any new songs yet Eunhee?” asked Injoon curiously.

“At the moment, no. I haven’t found any inspirations yet but I’ll work on it,” I replied.

“Well then take your time, we still have 6 months anyway,” smiled E-Young.

“Alright! We’ll be playing live! I’m so excited!” shouted Injoon as we all walked out of the dining room.

Myungsoo’s POV

I slowly opened my eyes as I faintly heard someone playing the acoustic guitar. I stretched, gave out a yawn and looked around my surroundings.

Who’d put on the light...? And who in the world is playing the guitar at this late hour…?

I decided to find another place to sleep because Sungjong and Sungyeol was playing battle ships again. They were so noisy that I can’t even peacefully close my eyes without hearing bomb noises or their high pitched laughter. Since I thought no one will be using the dorm’s music room late at night, I decided to sleep here. But I guess I was wrong…

I listened to the piece of music some more. Even if it was just a few simple chords, the person played it beautifully. I can only think of one person who can actually play the guitar this skillfully…

I got up, came out of my hiding place and walked towards that person. I was right, it was her…

“Nice melody you get there…”

She literally jumped on her seat when she heard my voice.

“Oh! Myungsoo, you scared me! I didn’t know you were here, I thought everyone has gone to bed…”

I shrugged, pulled up a chair and sat in front of her.

“Can you play it again?” I asked.

She hesitated a little, “Sure I guess… It’s just a few simple chords…”

I quietly listened as she plucks the acoustic guitar strings once again. I noticed that she was a little nervous.

Suddenly she stopped and started to scribble some notes on her music sheet.

“You’re writing a song?”

“Yeah, but it’s not finished yet…” she turned to face me.

“You’re talented when it comes composing I’m sure you’ll finish it in no time,” I smiled.

Her eyes grew wide and she slightly blushed.

“Err thanks…” she murmured as she fiddled her pencil.

“Oh, and about what happened today… I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to get you hurt or anything,” she apologized.

I got up from my chair and slowly walked towards the door. As I put my hand on the door knob, I turned around.

“Don’t worry about it, it was just an accident.”

Then I saw her smiled.

I opened the door and walked out of the music room, leaving her to continue on writing her music in peace…

There are certain factors that can explain why 4Minute don't seem to be in high spirits to pull off a strong, captivating performance. Myungsoo is sharp to be able to notice this. Since they seem to be just doing it for show, there's no passion in their performance. It's like they've lost their touch when they don't know what dancing truly is anymore to them--like its value becomes lost to them over time. This happens to one's interest that doesn't become a passion. Passion is what keeps one grounded and focused on his/her lifelong dream/goal. Another possible factor could be anxiety about going up against The Syndicate in the showdown if they're worried about whether the band's performance would overpower theirs.

Great job with the details. Though, 4Minute's part seems to be lacking. I understand that it's hard for you to describe their dance routine since this isn't your area of interest. Anybody can get an idea of how their performance looks like from watching video clips of 2NE1 performing "I Am The Best."

xD Sungjong and his divaness... Myungsoo is glad to have his friend back. It had been awkward and tense between the two of them when Sungyeol kept avoiding him after seeing the two sleeping next to each other. That didn't make it easy for him to be worried about his best friend. From watching her perform, Myungsoo understands Eunhee's love of music by the passion that she puts into her performance. It's like a reflection of himself in the way that he feels about dancing. Being a dance expert himself, it's easy for him to pick out any flaws in 4Minute's choreography. He could make a great dance teacher. With his help, Eunhee can improve on her dancing in time for the dance off between Jihyun and her. When there's a chance, he could make it up to her and apologize for his behavior towards her that one evening. "Sleepless Dream" is a nice song. For the audience to be moved by it, it must be a song that reaches out to them in spirit in which they can relate to it. The reaction from Eunhee, E-Young, and Injoon at the end can either be good or bad. Judging from the response they received from the audience as they were performing, it's likely that they've come out as the winner of this showdown. There's no doubt that Myungsoo and Sungyeol are among those who've voted for The Syndicate to show their support.

4Minute did come off as flashy in their performance since they're aiming to impress the audience with their dance moves. Being flashy isn't enough for a performance to move the audience. What's lacking in their performance is connection with the people watching them. This is what The Syndicate's performance has. It's what makes them the winner in this case.

Hearing his confession seemed to have pulled somewhat on her heart strings. After an awkward pause, it looked like she shrugged it off and remarked jokingly to ease the tension in the air. Since she didn't know how else to respond, she figured that making light of the situation is the best way to go.

It's good that Sungyeol is speaking to Myungsoo again. Even though he was being harsh towards her, Myungsoo does care about her and mean well. Since he loves her, he's already forgiven her in his heart. The concern that's evident in his tone of voice proves it. Sungyeol's got a point, though. Myungsoo did come off as insensitive by not being understanding of her and her position. It seems that Sungyeol has matured despite his childish demeanor in order for him to say this to him. He is slowly turning into a man. Love can change a person.

So, Eunhee is not so oblivious after all. She is aware of her own feelings as well as others' around her. For her to not have the heart to reject him, she must be worried about hurting Sungyeol's feelings and causing a rift between them. He did a nice thing for her by being there for her when she needs to be comforted and some cheering up, so it won't feel right to her to kill the mood by turning him down. She is considerate to be concerned about his feelings. However, she's giving him false hope by not letting him know that she doesn't feel the same way. It's not awkward to tell him that she likes him as a friend or a brother. That's better than pushing him away or not showing any sign that she cares for him in some way. At least Sungyeol has the chance to prove himself to Eunhee in expressing his love for her. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Then he'd know when to give up with no regrets once he discovered that she doesn't return his feelings. It would be easier for him to let her go then so that she could be happy with the one she truly loves.

Do your best to describe the showdown in detail.

I've decided to point out some mistakes I've spotted to help you improve on your English writing skills. It would be too much if I point out every single one. This is just to give you an idea of what to work on.

Some Ch. 17 mistakes:

I like you Eunhee
* Comma after "you"

why thank you there Sungyeol.
* Comma after "there"

I like you too my friend
* Comma after "too"

* Note: In some sentences, a pair of commas is needed to separate the title (like "my friend") or the name of the person from the entire phrase to make the whole thing flow smoothly when it serves as an interruption.
Example: This, my friend, is a Kitara.

I stopped on my tracks and placed my hand over my chest.
* The preposition should be "in" instead of "on."

You made her cry for God sake!
Correction: God's sake

She hasn’t made up her mind yet so I still have a chance
* Comma after "yet"

But if you ever make her cry again, I will certainly not let you go Myungsoo
* Comma after "go"

I turned my back on him as I pulled up the covers, leaving him there flabbergasted.
Correction: leaving him flabbergasted there

The showdown and showcase is nearing, plus I still need to improve my dancing skills.
Correction: The showdown and the showcase are nearing; plus, I still need to improve my dancing skills.

I gradually closed my eyes and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #1: I gradually closed my eyes, and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #2: I gradually closed my eyes. With a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.

The Kitara looks like one hi-tech, cool instrument. I saw a little of how it works by checking out LED Apple, which you'd mentioned to me in one of your previous messages.

We can see how Eunhee came to love and appreciate music. It's because she was influenced by her father at a very young age. He taught her everything he knows about music. Through music, the two share a special bond. That's why she feels so strongly about music. It reminds her of her deceased father. In memory of him, she pours her heart and soul into the music she creates and plays.
