Dance To the Melody

Eunhee’s POV

I was walking through the hall heading for the music room when I heard someone called, “Eunhee-ah! Wait up!”

I turned around to see Sungyeol running towards me trying to catch up. I heaved a sigh and slowed down my pace. When he finally fell into step beside me, I asked him, “What is it this time Sungyeol?”

He grinned. “You’re heading to the music room right? Let me walk you there.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “Err… okay. Are you sure you’re not here to tease me or something?”

Sungyeol gave a little chuckle. “Maybe not today, I just want to know how you’re feeling and coping Eunhee-ah. It’s been two days since the incident and I also heard about the showdown too,” he said, looking at me with concern in his eyes.

“I’m alright, still coping though but I know that I’ll get through it… As for the showdown, I’m actually going to practice with E-Young and Injoon right now. I can really count on them at times like this,” I said, giving him a smile.

He nodded. “That’s good to hear…”

“Is this me seeing you being worried about me Sungyeol-ah?” I playfully asked him.

“Who s-said I-I w-was worried? I w-was just asking…” stuttered Sungyeol, rubbing the back of his neck.

“Sure you are Sungyeol, sure you are…” I .

“Oh, look! We’re here already,” Sungyeol changed the topic as we reached the music room.

I giggled. “Well then, thanks for walking me here Sungyeol,” I thanked him.

He beamed. “No problem, good luck for the upcoming showdown. I’ll be rooting for you. Hwaiting!” he cheered and gave a little wave before running down the hall again.

I softly laughed and shook my head. That Sungyeol… what’s with him being nice all of a sudden?

~~~~~~
 “So, what song are we going to play Eunhee?” asked E-Young.
I tapped my chin with my finger, thinking. “Let’s do a song that we’ve already performed before, since we don’t have much time it’s better to do one that we’re already familiar with and make it perfect.”
“How about we do ‘Sleepless Dreams’? It was a success on last year’s showcase,” Injoon suggested.
I looked over at him, grinning. “Yeah, why not! And let’s play a rock version one since we already did the acoustic one that time.”
“If we’re going to rock and roll, then who’s going to play the keyboard or piano Eunhee? You can’t play two instruments at the same time,” wondered E-Young.
“Don’t worry guys… I have a plan,” I reassured them.
Myungsoo’s POV
I worriedly paced around the studio, glancing at the clock once in a while. It had been thirty minutes; I can’t believe that she’s late again.
I sighed; it’s the third time this week. I know that the showdown is just around the corner but she should also know that our dance practice is just as important. How is she going to improve and pass the exam if she couldn’t at least put some effort to it?
After waiting for five more minutes, I decided to just call off our practice today and was about to head for the door when Eunhee came barging in, out of breath.
“Myungsso-ah, I’m sorry that I’m late… I was practicing with the band and got lost track of time…”
I slowly walked towards her without taking my eyes off her. I noticed that she took a step back when we were just inches apart.
“Eunhee-ah, let me ask you something… Do you want to improve your dancing skills and pass the exam?” I asked with a stern voice.
Her eyes grew wide and she merely nodded.
“Then you should know that every single practice counts. I know that you don’t have the same amount of passion in dancing like I do but at least try to put more effort into it. I’m trying my best to help you here,” I explained, still looking at her intensely.
“I’m sorry, I know that you are… it’s just that the showdown is in a couple of days and we’ve also been practicing for the showcase... We really need to make our performance perfect that’s why we’ve been practicing really hard and got lost track of time…” she murmured.
“But I promise you that I’ll work harder after the showdown is done,” said Eunhee, lifting her head up.
I tilted my head. “I also have dance practices with the guys, we’re also getting ready for the showcase and we’ve been practicing really hard too. But that didn’t stop me from being committed to teach and help you Eunhee.”
I saw tears forming in her eyes and she looked down again, speechless.
“Is winning the showdown that important to you?” I firmly asked, taking a step closer.
“You don’t understand…” her voice trembled.
I clenched my hand into a fist, I couldn’t take this anymore.
“Then make me understand! You know very well that I’ve been asking you about it whenever I got the chance but you either changed the topic or avoided me completely. Do you know how frustrating it is when no one is telling you anything but expect you to understand? How am I supposed to help or understand you when you’re not talking to me Eunhee?!” I ranted on, raising my voice.
Tears were flowing down her cheeks and were dropping down to the floor. I closed my eyes and exhaled deeply.
“Fine, let’s just call off our dance practices for this week,” I lowered my voice again.
“Myungsoo-ah… I-I’m sorry…” Eunhee apologized again as she grabbed hold of my arm with her trembling hand.
I loosened her grip on me and slowly lowered her hand.
“Good luck on your performance,” I said to her before walking away, closing the door behind me.
There are certain factors that can explain why 4Minute don't seem to be in high spirits to pull off a strong, captivating performance. Myungsoo is sharp to be able to notice this. Since they seem to be just doing it for show, there's no passion in their performance. It's like they've lost their touch when they don't know what dancing truly is anymore to them--like its value becomes lost to them over time. This happens to one's interest that doesn't become a passion. Passion is what keeps one grounded and focused on his/her lifelong dream/goal. Another possible factor could be anxiety about going up against The Syndicate in the showdown if they're worried about whether the band's performance would overpower theirs.
Great job with the details. Though, 4Minute's part seems to be lacking. I understand that it's hard for you to describe their dance routine since this isn't your area of interest. Anybody can get an idea of how their performance looks like from watching video clips of 2NE1 performing "I Am The Best."
xD Sungjong and his divaness... Myungsoo is glad to have his friend back. It had been awkward and tense between the two of them when Sungyeol kept avoiding him after seeing the two sleeping next to each other. That didn't make it easy for him to be worried about his best friend. From watching her perform, Myungsoo understands Eunhee's love of music by the passion that she puts into her performance. It's like a reflection of himself in the way that he feels about dancing. Being a dance expert himself, it's easy for him to pick out any flaws in 4Minute's choreography. He could make a great dance teacher. With his help, Eunhee can improve on her dancing in time for the dance off between Jihyun and her. When there's a chance, he could make it up to her and apologize for his behavior towards her that one evening. "Sleepless Dream" is a nice song. For the audience to be moved by it, it must be a song that reaches out to them in spirit in which they can relate to it. The reaction from Eunhee, E-Young, and Injoon at the end can either be good or bad. Judging from the response they received from the audience as they were performing, it's likely that they've come out as the winner of this showdown. There's no doubt that Myungsoo and Sungyeol are among those who've voted for The Syndicate to show their support.
4Minute did come off as flashy in their performance since they're aiming to impress the audience with their dance moves. Being flashy isn't enough for a performance to move the audience. What's lacking in their performance is connection with the people watching them. This is what The Syndicate's performance has. It's what makes them the winner in this case.
Hearing his confession seemed to have pulled somewhat on her heart strings. After an awkward pause, it looked like she shrugged it off and remarked jokingly to ease the tension in the air. Since she didn't know how else to respond, she figured that making light of the situation is the best way to go.
It's good that Sungyeol is speaking to Myungsoo again. Even though he was being harsh towards her, Myungsoo does care about her and mean well. Since he loves her, he's already forgiven her in his heart. The concern that's evident in his tone of voice proves it. Sungyeol's got a point, though. Myungsoo did come off as insensitive by not being understanding of her and her position. It seems that Sungyeol has matured despite his childish demeanor in order for him to say this to him. He is slowly turning into a man. Love can change a person.
So, Eunhee is not so oblivious after all. She is aware of her own feelings as well as others' around her. For her to not have the heart to reject him, she must be worried about hurting Sungyeol's feelings and causing a rift between them. He did a nice thing for her by being there for her when she needs to be comforted and some cheering up, so it won't feel right to her to kill the mood by turning him down. She is considerate to be concerned about his feelings. However, she's giving him false hope by not letting him know that she doesn't feel the same way. It's not awkward to tell him that she likes him as a friend or a brother. That's better than pushing him away or not showing any sign that she cares for him in some way. At least Sungyeol has the chance to prove himself to Eunhee in expressing his love for her. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Then he'd know when to give up with no regrets once he discovered that she doesn't return his feelings. It would be easier for him to let her go then so that she could be happy with the one she truly loves.
Do your best to describe the showdown in detail.
I've decided to point out some mistakes I've spotted to help you improve on your English writing skills. It would be too much if I point out every single one. This is just to give you an idea of what to work on.
Some Ch. 17 mistakes:
I like you Eunhee
* Comma after "you"
why thank you there Sungyeol.
* Comma after "there"
I like you too my friend
* Comma after "too"
* Note: In some sentences, a pair of commas is needed to separate the title (like "my friend") or the name of the person from the entire phrase to make the whole thing flow smoothly when it serves as an interruption.
Example: This, my friend, is a Kitara.
I stopped on my tracks and placed my hand over my chest.
* The preposition should be "in" instead of "on."
You made her cry for God sake!
Correction: God's sake
She hasn’t made up her mind yet so I still have a chance
* Comma after "yet"
But if you ever make her cry again, I will certainly not let you go Myungsoo
* Comma after "go"
I turned my back on him as I pulled up the covers, leaving him there flabbergasted.
Correction: leaving him flabbergasted there
The showdown and showcase is nearing, plus I still need to improve my dancing skills.
Correction: The showdown and the showcase are nearing; plus, I still need to improve my dancing skills.
I gradually closed my eyes and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #1: I gradually closed my eyes, and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #2: I gradually closed my eyes. With a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
The Kitara looks like one hi-tech, cool instrument. I saw a little of how it works by checking out LED Apple, which you'd mentioned to me in one of your previous messages.
We can see how Eunhee came to love and appreciate music. It's because she was influenced by her father at a very young age. He taught her everything he knows about music. Through music, the two share a special bond. That's why she feels so strongly about music. It reminds her of her deceased father. In memory of him, she pours her heart and soul into the music she creates and plays.
