Dance To the Melody

This chapter is fully in Myungsoo's POV

I opened my locker to get my notebook for my next class when I heard a thud as if something fell. I looked down and saw a few boxes of chocolates near my feet.

“Waa, you’re getting popular these days,” said Sungyeol, leaning against the lockers as I picked the boxes from the floor.

“I’m not interested, you can have them,” Sungyeol grinned as I shoved them into his hands.

“Really? Thanks Myungsso, these chocolates sure looks delicious…”

As we made our way down the stairs, Sungyeol was still bugging me about the chocolates. He sounds like a kid who just got his favorite toy on his birthday.

“Myungsoo-ah, you sure don’t want one?” Sungyeol asked, as he popped another chocolate into his mouth.

I sighed. “For the 15th time Sungyeol, I don’t want one…”

“If you say so,” he shrugged.

Then suddenly I felt a great force from behind pushing me down, and the next thing I knew I was already on the floor with something or someone pinning me down.

“Urghh..” I heard someone groaned as they move themselves away from on top of me.

“Myungsso-ah! You okay?” asked Sungyeol, as he helped me on my feet.

Ouch… I felt pain as I tried stand up. Great, I think I sprained my right ankle…

“I’m okay…” I grimaced.

“Omo! Myungsoo, I’m so sorry, I really am…” I heard someone apologize.

We turned our attention to the person who had pushed me down the stairs, it was Eunhee.

“Yah! Why did you do that for?! You could’ve hurt Myungsoo, it’s a good thing he didn’t break any bones!” Sungyeol yelled at her.

“I’m sorry, it was an accident… I was running down the stairs and my shoelaces were untied…” she bowed a few more times.

“Don’t make lame excuses; you did that on purpose didn’t you? You were trying to get revenge on me for what I did this morning but your aim slipped. Look what you did to my chocolates… pay up for the damage!” Sungyeol was glaring at Eunhee.

Okay… Wasn’t I the one who got pushed? But why is Sungyeol the one who gets to yell at her.

“Yah Sungyeol! I already told you it was an accident and why would get I revenge over a small thing like that? I’m not that kind of a person… and what’s your chocolate got to do with this?!” Eunhee yelled back at him.

“Don’t you dare raise your voice at me girl!”

“You’re the one who’s yelling!...”

I looked over at Sungyeol then at Eunhee and decided to let them continue on with their arguing.

I sighed, instead of standing there like a fool I simply limped my way towards the infirmary to get this ankle patched up.

~~~~~~
“It’s just a sprain, nothing serious. You should take a little brake from all that dancing,” said the nurse as she wrapped my ankle.
“How long?” I simply asked.
“A week should be fine,” she smiled.
“Okay, thanks nurse,” I bowed.
I was about to head for the door when suddenly Sungyeol barged into the room.
“Myungsoo-ah! There you are… How could you leave me with her like that?”
I shrugged. “You guys were busy yelling at each other, so I left.”
Sungyeol then looked down at my bandaged ankle.
“Myungsoo-ah, you’re hurt… I swear that Eunhee…”
“Stop it Yeollie-ah, it’s just a sprain and I’m sure she didn’t do it on purpose.”
He sighed, “I guess you’re right… come on, Mr. Kang’s waiting. Aishh… I’m sure we’ll be getting detention this week.”
“If you were a little nicer to her this morning then we wouldn’t be in this kind of situation.”
“It wasn’t my fault that her shoelaces were untied…” he murmured.
I gave a chuckle.
“Hey Myungsoo, you sure you can walk? Want a piggyback?” Sungyeol grinned.
I smacked his head, “I can perfectly walk on my own thanks.”
~~~~~~

That night after dinner, Sungyeol and I made our way towards our practice room. Everyone was already there waiting.

“Myungsoo boy you came!” Dongwoo playfully hugged me.

“Dongwoo-ah, don’t I get a hug too?” pouted Sungyeol.

“It’ll be weird if I hug you,” Dongwoo merong-ed at him.

“Yah, isn’t it weirder for you to hug Myungsoo…?”

I chuckled as we both took our seat in the group circle.

“Hey Myungsoo, did you hurt your foot?” Hoya asked.

Everyone’s attention was then turned to me.

“Yeah, it’s all because of Eun..” I nudged Sungyeol on the ribs before he could finish his sentence. I just don’t want the guys to give trouble to Eunhee.

“It’s nothing serious, just a sprain. I’ll be able to dance again in a week’s time,” I smiled at the others as Sungyeol gave a ‘what did I do?’ look.

“Okay then, since the showcase is still 6 months away we could use the time to decide which song we’ll be performing and work on our hands choreography until Myungsoo’s ankle gets better,” said Sungkyu.

I smirked; our leader sure has a solution for everything…

This is going to be a long night…

******

There are certain factors that can explain why 4Minute don't seem to be in high spirits to pull off a strong, captivating performance. Myungsoo is sharp to be able to notice this. Since they seem to be just doing it for show, there's no passion in their performance. It's like they've lost their touch when they don't know what dancing truly is anymore to them--like its value becomes lost to them over time. This happens to one's interest that doesn't become a passion. Passion is what keeps one grounded and focused on his/her lifelong dream/goal. Another possible factor could be anxiety about going up against The Syndicate in the showdown if they're worried about whether the band's performance would overpower theirs.

Great job with the details. Though, 4Minute's part seems to be lacking. I understand that it's hard for you to describe their dance routine since this isn't your area of interest. Anybody can get an idea of how their performance looks like from watching video clips of 2NE1 performing "I Am The Best."

xD Sungjong and his divaness... Myungsoo is glad to have his friend back. It had been awkward and tense between the two of them when Sungyeol kept avoiding him after seeing the two sleeping next to each other. That didn't make it easy for him to be worried about his best friend. From watching her perform, Myungsoo understands Eunhee's love of music by the passion that she puts into her performance. It's like a reflection of himself in the way that he feels about dancing. Being a dance expert himself, it's easy for him to pick out any flaws in 4Minute's choreography. He could make a great dance teacher. With his help, Eunhee can improve on her dancing in time for the dance off between Jihyun and her. When there's a chance, he could make it up to her and apologize for his behavior towards her that one evening. "Sleepless Dream" is a nice song. For the audience to be moved by it, it must be a song that reaches out to them in spirit in which they can relate to it. The reaction from Eunhee, E-Young, and Injoon at the end can either be good or bad. Judging from the response they received from the audience as they were performing, it's likely that they've come out as the winner of this showdown. There's no doubt that Myungsoo and Sungyeol are among those who've voted for The Syndicate to show their support.

4Minute did come off as flashy in their performance since they're aiming to impress the audience with their dance moves. Being flashy isn't enough for a performance to move the audience. What's lacking in their performance is connection with the people watching them. This is what The Syndicate's performance has. It's what makes them the winner in this case.

Hearing his confession seemed to have pulled somewhat on her heart strings. After an awkward pause, it looked like she shrugged it off and remarked jokingly to ease the tension in the air. Since she didn't know how else to respond, she figured that making light of the situation is the best way to go.

It's good that Sungyeol is speaking to Myungsoo again. Even though he was being harsh towards her, Myungsoo does care about her and mean well. Since he loves her, he's already forgiven her in his heart. The concern that's evident in his tone of voice proves it. Sungyeol's got a point, though. Myungsoo did come off as insensitive by not being understanding of her and her position. It seems that Sungyeol has matured despite his childish demeanor in order for him to say this to him. He is slowly turning into a man. Love can change a person.

So, Eunhee is not so oblivious after all. She is aware of her own feelings as well as others' around her. For her to not have the heart to reject him, she must be worried about hurting Sungyeol's feelings and causing a rift between them. He did a nice thing for her by being there for her when she needs to be comforted and some cheering up, so it won't feel right to her to kill the mood by turning him down. She is considerate to be concerned about his feelings. However, she's giving him false hope by not letting him know that she doesn't feel the same way. It's not awkward to tell him that she likes him as a friend or a brother. That's better than pushing him away or not showing any sign that she cares for him in some way. At least Sungyeol has the chance to prove himself to Eunhee in expressing his love for her. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." Then he'd know when to give up with no regrets once he discovered that she doesn't return his feelings. It would be easier for him to let her go then so that she could be happy with the one she truly loves.

Do your best to describe the showdown in detail.

I've decided to point out some mistakes I've spotted to help you improve on your English writing skills. It would be too much if I point out every single one. This is just to give you an idea of what to work on.

Some Ch. 17 mistakes:

I like you Eunhee
* Comma after "you"

why thank you there Sungyeol.
* Comma after "there"

I like you too my friend
* Comma after "too"

* Note: In some sentences, a pair of commas is needed to separate the title (like "my friend") or the name of the person from the entire phrase to make the whole thing flow smoothly when it serves as an interruption.
Example: This, my friend, is a Kitara.

I stopped on my tracks and placed my hand over my chest.
* The preposition should be "in" instead of "on."

You made her cry for God sake!
Correction: God's sake

She hasn’t made up her mind yet so I still have a chance
* Comma after "yet"

But if you ever make her cry again, I will certainly not let you go Myungsoo
* Comma after "go"

I turned my back on him as I pulled up the covers, leaving him there flabbergasted.
Correction: leaving him flabbergasted there

The showdown and showcase is nearing, plus I still need to improve my dancing skills.
Correction: The showdown and the showcase are nearing; plus, I still need to improve my dancing skills.

I gradually closed my eyes and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #1: I gradually closed my eyes, and with a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.
Correction #2: I gradually closed my eyes. With a tired heart, I finally fell asleep.

The Kitara looks like one hi-tech, cool instrument. I saw a little of how it works by checking out LED Apple, which you'd mentioned to me in one of your previous messages.

We can see how Eunhee came to love and appreciate music. It's because she was influenced by her father at a very young age. He taught her everything he knows about music. Through music, the two share a special bond. That's why she feels so strongly about music. It reminds her of her deceased father. In memory of him, she pours her heart and soul into the music she creates and plays.
