Yeh Shuhua is a dish per item sort of eater and, when she cooks, believes in the one and dirty policy. Need to stir the soup? One swirl of the pot with the ladle, quick little taste then drop it in the sink. And when the ladles run out, it’s a utensil free-for-all. When Shuhua grabs a fork, Soojin knows from the little huffs of frustration she hears as she walks by the kitchen.
The ordeal is a mixture of adorable and frustrating. Adorable because, well, it’s Shuhua. But frustrating because the dishes aren’t done by magical faeries.
At first, Shuhua cooked so little that the mound of dishes felt negligible; something Soojin could easily concur at the end of a trying day without added trouble. But as the youngest spent more time in the kitchen, the ant hill grew.
Sluggish, Soojin rounds the corner, mentally preparing for the worst.
“Miyeon?” Her voice cracks.
“Soo?” The voice sounds from somewhere down the hall. Feet patter across the hardwood a moment before Miyeon emerges, “Welcome home. How was your day?”
“Long.” Motioning to the sparkling clean counters, Soojin wore a look of relief, “Thank you for doing the dishes. I know there were a lot of them. Seriously, if Shuhua wasn’t so cute…”
