Yongsun felt like giving up. It seems like her genuine emotions will never reach Moonbyul and no matter how much she tries to let out the real confession, it won’t do. The words such as ‘joke’ and ‘practice’ just roll after like a perfectly written script.

She had a conversation with Irene earlier, and it has been on her mind the whole day.

“Why did you want to confess to Moonbyul, Solar?”

Yongsun worried about that for long, but the answer was fairly easy. It wasn’t grand or anything.

“Because I saw it… how this girl from another class walked over to talk to Moonbyul and confessed. Seeing that made me realize I have to confess too.”

“But aren’t you afraid…? What if she doesn’t like you back…?”

Yongsun has been pondering that ever since.

And so she was there, lying lifeless in her bed that Thursday afternoon while mindlessly staring at her phone. The stack of love references guides and ‘How-to-Date?’s are forming in her tables, messy and opened, and yet not a single book held an answer to her predicament. The words ‘I’ve always liked you’ is in the chatbox, waiting to be sent. Yongsun is still gathering her courage to say it though.

“Ah, I’m terrible at this entire confession thing.” She exhaled, burying all her frustrations in her pillows, while a HoneyWorks song plays in her speakers. “Yeah, I should just listen to songs and be happy and forget about this entire ordeal, for a while.”

“Is this what they call lovesickness?” The words left Yongsun’s lips as she stared at her ceilings with resigned feelings. “I feel like death though. Ahhh, this is annoying!”

She bit her lower lip, her ongoing monologue continuing on and on without her thinking. “But do I even need to confess? Irene’s got a point. What if Moonbyul won’t accept my heart?”

“We still have fun like this. We hang out, we play together, and we study together. She is still my best friend no matter what… shouldn’t that friendship be enough…?”

Her phone beeped, taking her out of her reverie. It was from Moonbyul.

She stared at the message with an instant smile on her lips.

“Yeah, I have Moonbyul like this, and I am still the first person she goes to whenever she does something. Do I need to confess my feelings?”

She shook her head, pushing the thoughts out of her mind while jumping up and running to her dresser as she wore decent clothes. Just a simple shirt and track pants. While fixing her hair, the next lyrics of the song played as she stood motionless for a moment.

She heard another beep from her phone.

Typing down a quick reply, Yongsun dashed out of her room to their door where Moonbyul is waiting.

Moonbyul is also in her bed that afternoon, with an expressionless face and her mind swarming with thoughts about who the person Yongsun actually likes. A message is already stored in their chatbox, waiting to be sent, and yet she couldn’t find the strength to tap that little plane button.

She couldn’t send it, half afraid of what it would say, while the other half is also afraid that it wasn’t her. Of course, it wouldn’t be her. Yongsun picked her as the rehearsal partner for a reason. Yongsun isn’t that dumb.

With her thoughts haunted by fears, Moonbyul deleted the words she would send. Instead, she asked a question she’ll typically say.

It doesn’t matter who that person is. They’re not together yet. Yongsun is still beside me…
