She hated the word heartbreak.

Just the mere sound of it had Lisa gritting her teeth in annoyance.

With another breath escaping through her clenched teeth from her parted plumped lips, Lisa forced herself to turn her attention down to her stained white sneakers. She watched as they shifted in discomfort on the dirty beige tiles beneath her. And, running out of different ways to clean the worn out fabric in her head, Lisa looked up and changed her focus towards the lockers across from her.

She scanned the bland color of the lockers with narrowed eyes. It was a dark shade of green that reminded her of spinach. And she hated spinach.

Lisa let out another sigh as a student walked towards one of the lockers in front of her and placed their hand on the black lock. She observed how the student naturally turned the dial three times to the right, two times to the left and one last spin to the right. Lisa watched as the student rushed to grab a single textbook, tucked it in their backpack and slammed the locker shut. The sound created an echo in the, almost empty, hallway that lasted less than a second. Maybe two seconds.

And, watching the student leave, Lisa held in a whimper of despair. She wanted to fall on her knees and beg. Actually and pathetically beg for the student to come back and somehow distract her.
