Baby, We'll Be AlrightDonghae was strumming his guitar softly while Hyukjae was playing with his phone when Donghae dropped a whole bombshell.
It was unexpected, especially when they both knew that it could cause them a lot of trouble.
“Let’s get married,” Donghae had said, his fingers hovering on the strings. It stopped the song, and there was silence between them, except for the background noise of the television.
Hyukjae’s fingers froze. He was in the middle of building his village after a raid when he wasn’t even on his phone.
“What?” Hyukjae asks, his eyes wide.
“You heard me,” Donghae said. He leans forward, his eyes all serious, but it shines for Hyukjae.
Hyukjae sighs, and sets his phone aside. He props his elbows on his knees, and the two of them stared into each others’ eyes for a long time. Donghae was asking the same question in their silent conversation. Hyukjae does not give him an answer, but it wasn’t because he didn’t want to.
Hyukjae sighed. “Suppose we do. How are we going to live our lives?”
Donghae stared at him, his eyes dark like burning coals.
“What are we going to do when you want children? Our marriage won’t be legal here, so we can’t adopt. Do you mind being called my roommate so we can live together? Or would you rather live separately like we do now?”
“After our contract ends, we can move to the US, or Paris, or London, wherever,” Donghae replied seriously. His words did not stutter. “We’ll settle down there. We can buy a house, adopt, or whatever. We can build something.” He was not about to back down.
It’s not that Hyukjae did not want to be with Donghae. It’s because it’s not always so easy.
“Hyuk, we already did our mandatory service. All we have to do is wait. Then we go.”
“How serious are you?”
Donghae gives him a look of disbelief. “What do you mean? We’ve spent half our lives together, and you think I’m just kidding with you?”
