Summary: In which SinB loves Moon Byulyi, but no one could ever know.

“SinB,” the host of the show turned the attention to her, and she could see the small red dot of the camera swivel to face her in time with the eyes of the audience. “You’re only a few months older than Umji, the youngest of the group. We all know who her favourite unnie is - what about yours?”

The audience let out a chorus of “ooh~”, leaning on the edge of their seats to know who SinB’s favourite was. Was it Yerin, who she was widely shipped with? Or maybe she secretly hated all the members and this was the time she would expose them…

“It’s a hard decision,” SinB started, choosing her words carefully. Depending on how she phrased it, she could get a lot of backlash from the fans and cause small banter with the girls; she knew she was already going to get a small hate letter on her pillow later from Umji for not picking her, even though she was the younger one. 

“I’ll buy you sweets.” Yuju leaned forward, in an attempt to seem like she was bribing SinB into choosing her, but really saving her from the media.

“I love and cherish all the members, but I think I am closest with Eunha unnie.”

The audience retreated back into the chorus of astonishment, and Yerin let out a gasp of fake hurt.

“After all I’ve done for you!” Sowon added, putting her hand over her heart.

“It’s because we’ve been friends for so long,” Eunha added. “I see her as my sister more than a friend.”

“That’s so sweet of you to say,” the host replied. “I can see just how close you two really are.”

After the show was over, Jung Yerin stretched her arms out over her head as they clambered into the dark van, just enough seats for all six girls a driver, and their manager. 

“That was rough.” Yerin muttered, situating herself in her seat and leaning against the side of the van.

“You did a good job with that ‘favourite unnie’ question, Sin.” Kim Sojung added, sliding into the back of the van, Jung Eunbi close behind her. 

“I’m still offended you didn’t pick me, though.” Kim Yewon huffed, stealing the last side seat, forcing Hwang Eunbi to have to sit in the middle. 

“You’re too tiny to be her favourite.” Eunha beamed proudly.

“Say that again, I dare you.” Yewon challenged, standing up, only for Sojung to shove her down into her seat again. “Tiny .” 

“You’re one centimetre taller than me.” Eunha glared as the van began to move forward.

“The difference between you and me, 1cm~” Yewon sang in a taunting way, turning back in her seat to face away from Eunha after Sojung hit her on the shoulder again, signalling to.

“Just accept it, dwarf.” Eunha continued the song, but Yewon shot back up in her seat, slapping Eunha on the arm, just to have Sojung push her back down yet again.

“Uri kkirikkirikkiri!” Yerin, too, continued the song, despite jumping around from chorus and verse.

“Ttak ilsenchi chai!” Sojung joined in, and Hwang Eunbi did all she could to direct her face away from the girls, direct the girls away from her face, trying to hide the small blush of pride that crept up onto her cheeks at the sound of them all singing together.

“How was it?” Moon Byulyi asked. Her voice was tiny through the phone, and sounded distant; maybe because Eunbi’s phone was across the room as she folded and put away the last of her laundry. 

“It was okay,” Eunbi replied. “The host asked me who my favourite unnie was, though; really put me on the spot.”

Byulyi laughed at that. “Who did you say? Eunha?”

“How’d you know?” Although Byulyi couldn’t see Eunbi’s face, she could still see the playful smile on her face, the small brush of red on her cheeks at being caught.

“Just a feeling.” Byulyi sighed, and there was a rustle of movement from her end. Eunbi knew she was turning over in her bed, and if the video option was during the call, she could see the blankets tucked up around herself, her face half buried by the pillow. “I never really liked him, though. He gave me creep vibes.” 

“Who?”

“The host.”

“Oh yeah. No, I didn’t particularly like him either. But you do say that about every man you meet, my love.”

“Not Seokjin!” Byulyi jumped to her own defense, and Eunbi laughed at so. “I like Seokjin.”

“Wow, throw Sandeul and Ken under the bus like that, why don’t you.” 

“They’re cool, I guess.” she said in a joking manner; Eunbi knew she liked all of her friends equally. 

“Oh!” Eunbi piped up, picking up her phone from the footboard of her bed and collapsing onto her own bed. “On the way back, Yewon and Eunha were bickering over height or whatever, and it ended up in us singing Taller Than You. I felt proud.”

“You’re all such nerds,” Byulyi teased. “Did you start it?”

“No, Yewon did after Eunha said that Yewon was only a centimetre taller than her.”

“Do you know what you guys are up to tomorrow?”

Eunbi shrugged. “Sojung will tell me tomorrow.”

“I’ll let you sleep then.”

“Night night!”

“Sleep well. I love you.”

“I~ love you~ love you~ love you~”

“Nerd!” Byulyi laughed. “Hani is my only friend I have leverage over!”

“I bet you Hani likes me more than she likes you.”

“That’s a bet that will have to wait until tomorrow. Aren’t you supposed to be sleeping?”

“Baby, good night.”

“Literally! Go! To! Sleep!”

Moon Byulyi no longer lived in the Mamamoo dorm, so she never had to worry about the problems that arose when living with other girls - shared bathroom time, shared chores, who was being too loud, who’s turn it is to pick a movie, who shared rooms with who.

Although the GFRIEND members got along really well and tackled seemingly meaningless issues like who’s turn it was to do the dishes and who got to use the shower first, there were still some things Hwang Eunbi did need to worry about, like sneaking out at night.

Umji once said that they want to prioritize GFRIEND, and as true as that is, there were still some things concerning her private life that Eunbi didn’t feel a hundred percent ready to tell the other girls. Her relationship with Moon Byulyi was one of them, and so she fell back onto sneaking out when the girls were asleep and doing her best to hide from sneaky Dispatch reporters on her way to see her girlfriend.

Eunbi was hesitant to talk to her other members about Byulyi and their relationship. She knew they got along well with all four Mamamoo girls, and them disliking Byulyi wasn’t the issue for her. Yeah, okay, they said that Eunha and Yerin fell in love in Navillera, but was that really support? Or did it come across like something their company wanted them to do? They had never really had a conversation about it, about their standpoints. Was it something that needed to be brought up, or was it something was to be unspoken? She feared that if she brought it up, a member would have a negative reaction. She didn’t want to ruin the relationship she had with the members or put a wedge in the team. 

Because of Eunbi’s uncertainty regarding her members, her and Byulyi had agreed to keep it secret from the other Mamamoo members, too. One small leak could lead to the wrong people finding out, and that could ruin everything for them.

So that’s why Eunbi snuck out of her dorm late at night to see Byulyi. Not every night; it’d be easier for people to catch on. They tried to make it as irregular and sporadic as possible, but that wasn’t always easy concerning their schedules. And so they mainly resulted to quiet video calls in their rooms, where it was easier to play it off as just friends and text messages no one besides them would ever see. 

But they still treasured their time together, and their most special and intimate times were when Eunbi snuck out and found herself at Byulyi’s apartment. There was never any hope of Byulyi sneaking out and over to Eunbi’s, as that could raise suspicion with the other girls. If she could come over for Eunbi, why not the others? Going out on public dates was also highly out of the question - too many people to see and notice them and start speculations and rumours, and again, why just those two? Why not bring Kang Seulgi and make it a party? 

Their nights spent together were delicate and precious. They liked to cook food and watch movies, and Eunbi would always try her hardest to not fall asleep, for she’d have to go back to her dorm anyways. She never stayed the night, not even on holidays when all the girls with their families. Eunbi and Byulyi always stayed with their own families, who also didn’t know about their relationship. There was again the aspect of not being accepted, but also it getting leaked. If their relationship was ever subject to the media, it would not only ruin their relationship, but their careers, and the careers concerning the other members. Seeing how both groups were from small companies (one could say they carried their labels), it also ruin not only the careers of the company employees, but the image of their companies, too. 

It was better not to risk things.
