Tenerife Sea II

Artist: Ed Sheeran

I got inside my car with a small frown. I always hate stockings. It sticks on my legs and the feeling of it gives me an uncomfortable feeling in such ways I couldn’t describe. Starting the ignition of it is also a hassle since the snow started to fall last night, talk about the nuisance it dawned upon me realizing that my faulty engine needs time to warm up.

After several of the gear stick, I managed to drove myself out of our garage. Humming a sweet song, I have made playlist for boring hours. A few rooms in that establishment would mean more time for me to do siesta. Such terms applies to my daily needs of coping. I need a nap.

I arrived at a minimal looking hotel, several blocks away from the main attraction of the city. Not to say it is enormous but is is conventionally big. A middle scale. I searched about it last night and Taeyeon is right about some things in the matter. It is a rising property.

However the guards are of Taeyeon’s breed and bloodline. I went inside with their eyes scrutinizing my stocking infested legs, what will they do if I have bare legs in the future. Oh well, I guess I have to learn to pray again.

The dark hallways of the employee area is currently eerie. Motioning myself to latch on the handle of the oak doors with a sign HUMAN RESOURCE. I let myself in, feeling welcomed when a brief cough echoed behind my back.

“You must be Miss Jung.” Tall and brooding, I squinted my eyes down to the small rectangular name tag at his chest. Reads, Kyunghoon.

“Yes sir.”

“You shouldn’t have prepared much. You are recommended by Taeyeon. I’m her cousin, better change into your uniform and someone will train you. Name’s Kwon. She might be upstairs in b25. Usually wears a mask, her cut lip, apparently is the cause. So yeah, better change into it now.”

I crinkle my nose at the unnecessary description of my trainer. I can find her myself with her name, who does name a person with a surname anyway? I went for the lockers and changed to the rather plain looking housekeeping uniform. Way far on the league of my previous hotel, the nightmare that is those frills and laces and that ing cap that made me look like a grandma. The way up the unoccupied floor of B25 is short.

I stepped on the deserted alley, some doors lining on the side, maybe the dressing rooms of some staffs and all. There are some men on the side, women giggling over the small cubicle that resembles a harry potter dead trap. And then a tall woman with a curve that is curvy than my uality. Mask over her face and i got this feeling of familiarity in that sculpted back. In a matter of seconds, my world flipped when everyone laughed.

“Jessica~ssi.”

“Yuri?!”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Drink.” She looked so hot when she is bossing me around like a ragdoll. I hate to admit it but this event usually happens in movies and overly produced sitcoms that apparently makes no sense.

I almost killed her and now she turned her heels to take a short trip at the employee haven to have coffee with me.

Obviously taking short glances at Yuri, now on her white tee and her aviator sunglasses that hang loosely over her pointed nose. Her eyes boring down on me. Hooded and dark, her lashes gazed upon my face and I find it sultry and flirtatious. I almost gulped down the cream that i am pouring over my vanilla latte.

“You are putting too much cream Jessica~ssi.” She smiled. Yuri Kwon, of all people. God. Why.

“Why are you here? If i may ask.”

“I like what you did. You are very different. I soared over the stack of employee numbers on my father’s computer to reach Taeyeon. And to ask her what hotel she recommended to that I could ask you for coffee. Simple as that. Nothing to exaggerated.” Yuri shrugged as if her choice of words did not irk me in the gruesome way possible.

This cocky little minion of hotness is taking strides into my heart with all the plays she have harboured in broadway. But no, the poor little me is too mature to even engage in child’s play.

“I’m sorry but you have watched too many K-Dramas that I find this act cringey.”

I left her sitting there smiling. Like really, smiling. What in the god’s world is her mind made of.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is Sunday. The chirping of the birds in a rainy day amused me somehow. Over the vast gray skies, I reckoned the sun is hiding and hopefully will offer me the consolation that being a burden is not burdensome at all. I went down to have breakfast with my family and then went outside the patio to observe the rain.

“Soojung~ah.”

“Unnie?”

“When the rain stops, I’ll borrow your bike okay?” I smiled over my sister fondly.

She nodded her head. By the end of this day, I hope the skies clears. Going back home also means going back to the brooks down the broken down bridge at the end of the town. Where fresh lilies dances every night with flowers blooming over the aged rock beside it. It is the most calming place for me atleast.

It is where me and Taeyeon usually watch the fireflies when the sun comes down. In this time of the century however, lets just say that people are so much into destroying the world. Nevertheless, I want to experience that feeling again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The skies cleared just right after our dinner. I begged Dad to fix Soojung’s bike after my klutz self rammed it over the garage door because my skills have faded over the years, I forgot how to pedal. I whistled and whistled and then I reached the bridge. Now covered with moss and wild flowers racking the wooden ledge.

Still the same, but massively different. I ran a huge smile on my face as I settled my bike down. The fireflies are all dancing over the still waters of the pond. It is so mesmerizing. If one would ever come in here, I attest that they would be amazed enough to punch out the passwords of their cellphone to even get a glimpse of this natural occurrence. But i won’t. This is my fantasy. My safe haven.

“I see, fireflies.”

That ing voice. No.

“What are you doing here? How?” I saw Yuri, riding my bike. Or so to say, just saddling it lazily. She is in her sweater and her hair is tied up in a ponytail.

I stood up. Wondering why would she do this, for me.

“Before you cast me away, I asked Taeyeon of your possible whereabouts and since you did not accept the job, she reckons you would be here to vent. So I came.”
