Chapter 22: As Spring Approaches

In Love With You

With Spring break a few days away, most of the teachers have been giving out exams to prepare for the upcoming break on April the second. As he thinks about what to do for the break, he has been thinking of ways to bring it up to Jimin who did not seem to be interested in going anywhere or doing anything for Spring Break. Since they have been together for about a month he has been having the feeling that they should take the next step but is too shy to bring it up to him. He has been in relationships before and even though they were special in their own way, more than anything he wants to introduce Jimin to his father and sister officially and for Jimin to introduce him to his father, but it does not seem like something that would happen soon since Jimin is always getting into an argument with his father and stepmom. The only time he has seen Jimin’s father is when he came over a few weeks ago and there was so much tension in the house. The only thing he could do he exchanges a smile and went up to Jimin’s room without saying anything to his parents.

Now that he is at Jimin’s house studying for the math exam they have on Thursday, the thoughts start to cloud his mind, he really wants to do something for Spring break with Jimin, maybe even a little getaway but he still has no clue to where they would go and even if Jimin would go with him. With the window’s open blowing in the fresh Spring breeze in the room and the evening sunlight making it warm. Jungkook glances at Jimin whose eyes are a focus on his study guide, writing words down and numbers, puckering his lips to the side and making faces like he usually does when he is focused on something and pouting when he gets stuck on a problem. Jungkook smiles to himself, he could watch him all day, but he knows he should be studying as well if he did not want to fail. He exhales, going back to writing in his notebook, eyes glancing up at Jimin every now and then.

After studying for a couple of more hours and the sun starting to set, Jungkook could not take it anymore, his brain feeling jumbled up.

“Ahh!” he exclaims putting his head down, Jimin looks at him with a smile, he looks up at him,

“I’m getting bored.” Jimin laughs,

“Yeah well,” he replies, “Whoever said studying was fun? Jungkook lifts his head up,

“Let’s take a break?” pleads Jungkook. Jimin shakes his head laughing, he puts his pencil down, cracking his knuckles,

“Don’t do that,” says Jungkook, “It’s not good for your fingers.” He takes Jimin’s hand and starts to gently press between his finger, Jimin smiles at him as Jungkook messages his fingers, releasing all the tension. After he was done, Jimin takes his hand and does the same thing, bursting out laughing, they stare at each other.

“Want to eat some snacks?” asks Jimin, letting go of his hands and standing up.

“Hmm, not really,” replies Jungkook, “It’s only a couple of hours until dinner if I eat snacks now, I won’t be able to eat dinner, it’s not healthy.”

“Didn’t realize you were such a health freak,” teases Jimin, Jungkook playfully glares at him laughing, “Hmm, in that case, stay for dinner.” Jungkook’s mouth opens, surprised, he has been thinking all week about inviting Jimin over for dinner and always chickened out but Jimin just casually asks him to stay for dinner, Jungkook could not help but wonder as what? As a boyfriend or a friend? He is positive Jimin’s parents do not know their dating, Jungkook exhales, biting his lip, or did they? They never questioned why he hanged around their house? Maybe they suspect? He hopes they do it would make things easier.

“What?” says Jimin, noticing Jungkook’s worried face, “You don’t want to?” Jungkook shakes his head,

“I want to,” he replies, sighing, “I was wondering if it’s a good idea…” Jimin stares at him,

“Why wouldn’t it be a good idea?”

“Well, I guess, I mean your parents don’t know we’re dating, so wouldn’t it be weird for me to stay for dinner?” Jimin sighs, he sits down on the chair, rolling it until he was in front of Jungkook, he takes his hands, caressing them, staring into his eyes. He kisses his hands.

“Is that what you want?” he asks, his voice soft and genuine, Jungkook nods his head,

“Yes, I don’t want us to be discreet anymore. I want to able to introduce you to my father and sister as my boyfriend,” he replies, scanning Jimin’s face, anticipating his response. Jimin touches his face, caressing it with his fingers, he smiles,

“Me too,” he replies, “I want to introduce you to my father and mother too, hmm.” Jimin gets up, Jungkook watches him as he picks up his cellphone, puzzled. Jimin smiles as he presses the buttons on the phone, turning around,

“Good morning mom,” says Jimin in Korean, Jungkook’s eyes widen and mouth drops realizing what Jimin was doing, he called his mom in Busan. Jimin smiles at him as he continues talking to his mom,

“I’m good,” he replies, “I called cause’ I wanted you to meet someone. I told you about him, yeah, okay, I’ll facetime you okay, mom.” Jimin hangs up the phone, walking to Jungkook, who was lost at words, heart beating fast, he did not think Jimin would call his mom,

“What’re you doing?” whispers Jungkook,

“You want to meet my mom,” says Jimin, “It’s fine, I told her about you since you guys can’t physically meet, talk to her.” He smiles at the camera, waving at her, Jungkook sighs, ! Trying to think of what to say, his Korean was not that good,

“I’m going to hand him the phone, mom,” says Jimin, before he could protest, Jimin shoves the phone in his hands. Jungkook takes the phone, clearing his throat. Looking at the screen, he extends his hand, a woman with long straight brown hair in a white blouse appears on the screen. He has seen her pictures all around Jimin’s room but to see her in life over the phone, made him nervous. He smiles at and slightly waves at her, greeting her in Korean. The woman smiles, waving at him,

“Wow, you’re more handsome than Jimin described,” she says in English, with an accent, taking Jungkook by surprise, not expecting her to speak so casually and in English as well, he glances at Jimin who was enjoying watching him squirm as he thinks about what to say, “Jungkook-ah, how are you?”

“I’m fine,” replies Jungkook, “Sorry for bothering you so early in the morning.” The woman shakes her head,

“It’s not a bother,” she replies, “Jimin talks about you all the time, I was wondering when I would get to meet you.” Jungkook blushes at her words, he glances at Jimin, who was pretending he was not listening, feeling shy as well. Jungkook glances at Jimin, hoping he would take the phone but from the looks of it, he did not seem like he was going to.

After face-timing with Jimin’s mom over the phone, he realizes where he gets his personality from, he is just like his mom and she also knows they are dating but did not have a problem with it. Jungkook wonders when he told his mom, but he is happy to know that Jimin’s mom knows their relationship, making his heart flutter.  Jimin joins him on the side and Jungkook hands him the phone,

“Jimin-ah,” says his mom, “I have to go to work now, make sure you don’t sleep late. And Jungkook, it is nice to finally talk to you and hopefully, we’ll meet in the future, take care.” Jungkook nods his head smiling, Jimin blows a kiss at the screen and his mom does the same, they wave goodbye to her.

Jimin hangs up the phone, Jungkook could not help but laugh,

“You’re insane,” he says, shaking his head, “Your mom is beautiful.”

“She is, isn’t she?” replies Jimin, laughing, “I took after her as you can see.” Jungkook rolls his eyes, as Jimin boastfully smiles,

“So, are you staying for dinner?” he asks, Jungkook nods his head,

“Shouldn’t you let your parents know?”

“I will,” answers Jimin. He takes Jungkook’s hands, pulling him up, “Until then, now what do you want to do?” Jungkook stares at him, a million things rushing into his heads, flying shy, he slightly pushes him away, walking towards his bookshelves that contained mostly manga and comics. He picks up a One Piece, graphic novel, flipping through the pages, shyly glancing back at Jimin, who winks at him, making his heart skip a beat.

With an hour away until dinner, Jungkook convinced Jimin to go tell his parents that he is staying for dinner, not wanting to ambush them. As he waits for him to return, he turns on the television going through the channels. He was not into watching tv shows but he did not want to snoop around Jimin’s room. His phone beeps, he takes it out of his pocket, it was a message from his sister, asking if he was coming home for dinner or if she should save him food. Jungkook gasps, he totally forgot to tell her he is staying at Jimin for dinner. He quickly types information her that he is eating at Jimin, his sister replies with a heart eyes emoji teasing him. He sighs, shaking his head,

“Stupid,” he mutters to himself, as the door opens, it was Jimin, coming back with a bottle of water, he sits down on the bed beside him. He hands him the water bottle,

“My stepmom says she is okay with it,” he replies, “I’m not sure if dad is going to be home in time for dinner.”

“Okay,” Jungkook, gulping down the water, Jimin stares at him,

“Thirsty much?” he says, teasing him, Jungkook pokes him on the side, Jimin jumps to the side, laughing, Jungkook sits up,

“You’re ticklish?” he says, with a smirk,

“No,” replies Jimin. Jungkook clears his throat, poking him again,

“Ya!” exclaims Jimin, smiling, “I really hate it when people do that.” Jungkook laughs, running his finger through his hair.

“Jiminie-hyung,” he says, catching his breath, “Do you have any plans for Spring Break?” Jimin turns to look at him,

“Hmm, not really, I mean I did have one. I don’t know if I told you about it, I was planning on visiting my mom, but she must travel for work, so I won’t be able too. Why? Want to do something?” Jungkook smiles, he stares at Jimin,

“Well, I want to spend time with you, maybe we can go to like Vegas or something?” says Jungkook, excited,

“Vegas?”

“Hmm-Mhmm,” answers Jungkook, “It’ll be a nice getaway.” Jimin stares at him suspiciously,

“Yeah, it’ll be fun, I went there with my friends last year,” he says, “So, you want to be alone with me?” Jungkook’s face flushes red, as Jimin stares at him like he is reading his mind. He opens his mouth to protest but nothing comes out, his body betraying him, flustered. Jimin burst out laughing, falling back on his back,

“You should have seen your face,” he says, holding his stomach while laughing. Jungkook glares at him but unable to stop from smiling, Jimin’s laugh has always been contagious. Anyone seeing him laugh would laugh along with him, he has that effect on people. Jimin sits up, putting his arms around Jungkook, pulling his cheek,

“You’re so cute when you blush, do you know that?” he says, smiling softly. Jungkook stares at him, feeling warm and fluttered, he leans in and pecks his lips, leaving Jimin stupefied, getting his revenge for teasing him. He winks at him just as Jimin did before, as Jimin runs his fingers through his hair, biting his lips, fluttered. He grabs a pillow, squeezing it, as he glances at Jungkook who winks at him again, he pushes him away, laughing.

As they lay on the bed watching American Dad on Adult Swim, laughing and giggling. The door opens, they look up, it was Jimin’s stepsister, Suzy, she glances at them.

“Dinner is ready,” she says, glancing at Jungkook before closing the door behind her.

“Let’s go,” says Jimin, sitting up. Jungkook turns off the tv and gets off the bed, following Jimin. As they walk downstairs, he can feel his heart race, this is the first time he is going to meet Jimin’s parents despite having seen them all the time he came over his house when they were doing their art project and all the other times. He knows he should feel comfortable but all that time, he only came over as a friend, Jimin and he was not dating. He hesitant for a second, wondering if it was a good idea to suddenly have dinner at his house like this even though this is what he has been thinking about the past weeks. He could not help but think if they are moving too fast, but he also told Jimin he loves him a month ago, it should alright, it is just dinner, not an engagement.

He takes a deep breath as they head in the dining room, he scans the room, spots Suzy sitting down at the table on her phone. His heart drops when he sees Jimin’s dad, stopping in his track, he has seen the man a million times, but this was different, he is officially meeting them, his heart races and palms start to sweat, wondering what kind of people they are? Are they traditional? Religious? How she he greets him? American or Korean? What if he offends him? Many thoughts invade his mind, he curses himself for ever bringing it up, it was easy for him to meet Crystal’s parents as her boyfriend because they already knew him before they started dating but this is different, completely different. He must impress them or else they would not like him and if they do not like him, he won’t be able to be with Jimin. Jimin takes his hand bringing him from his thoughts, he squeezes, smiling, Jungkook looks at Jimin’s father, as Jimin pulls him and telling him to sit down.

Jungkook takes a sit and Jimin sits beside him, “Dad, this is Jeon Jungkook,” says Jimin. His dad glances at Jungkook,

“Good evening,” he says, smiling,

“Good evening,” replies Jungkook still tense. It gets silent for a second, his dad clears his throat,

“Are you two together?” he asks, Jungkook gulps his spit, but coughs as it was unable to go down,

“Yap,” replies Jimin, he stares at Jimin at his bluntness and glances at Jimin’s father, awaiting his response, but he was silent for a second, are they always this straightforward?

“I was wondering why he was always hanging out here,” replies the dad, “It’s nice to meet you, Jungkook.” Jungkook looks up at him, surprised at how calm Jimin’s dad was, he was upset or surprised, so he knows his son is gay? Jungkook sighs relieved, his heart felt at ease, he has always thought Jimin’s dad was strict and serious being a businessman and all. Jimin nudges him on the arm,

“Oh, it’s nice to you too,” he replies.

“I’m glad you’re here,” says his dad, Jungkook stares at him puzzled, “It’s rare for Jimin to join us for lunch. I was surprised when my wife told me he is having a friend over.” Jungkook smiles, glancing at Jimin, his stepmom walks into the dining room,

“Yes, it’s good to have him join us for dinner,” she says, taking a seat beside his dad, “He never had someone over before except for his friends.” Jungkook stares at Jimin confused, he knows Jimin has been in relationships before, he never brought his exes to meet his parents, he smiles at the thought of it.

The table was filled with food, seems his stepmom went out all, it felt like a dinner party, he has family dinners but none of them was this fancy. He glances at his stepmom, she would have gotten very well with his mom if she was still alive, she was lively and loved to cook.

“Dig in,” she says, looking at Jungkook, “You don’t have to feel shy, I don’t know what you like so I cooked a little bit of everything.”

“Thank you,” he says, smiling, Jimin hands him a plate with roasted duck and pork with lentils and rice on the side, the smells linger on his tongue and nostrils. He cuts a slice of duck and puts in his mouth, he can see her staring at him as if waiting for him to say something. After he swallows, Jungkook smiles,

“it’s delicious Mrs. Parks,” he replies, she smiles so wide as if someone told her she won a million dollars, he glances at Jimin who was to busy eating.

After eating the meal, she begins to serve the dessert, a cheesecake. She hands him a plate of cheesecake,

“Jiminie loves sweet stuff,” she says, Jungkook glances at Jimin who was surprisingly quiet throughout dinner, making a couple of comments here and there but mostly just ate.

“Are you in the same grade as Jimin?” asks his father, as his wife hands him a piece of cheesecake,

“No, he is a junior,” replies Jimin, “He is two years younger than me.” Jimin’s father’s stares at Jungkook surprised,

“Really?” he says, “He looks older than you and taller.” Everyone at the table starts to laugh, Jimin glares at his dad,

“I thought he was older,” continues his father, “He seems more mature.” Jungkook laughs as Jimin frowns as his father’s comments,

“I’m mature,” he mumbles.

“You sure don’t behave like it,” says his father, “Do your parents know you’re dating?” Jungkook clears his throat,

“My older sister does but my dad doesn’t know yet,” he answers. It gets silent for a second,

“What about your mom?” asks Jimin’s stepmom, Jimin glances at Jungkook,

“My mom is not with us anymore,” he says softly.

“Oh sweetie,” she says, apologetically, “I’m sorry.” Jungkook shakes his head,
“It’s fine,” he answers, “It’s been a long time, we’re okay.” His stepmom smiles at him and he smiles back at her, he glances at Jimin, who raises his eyebrows silently drinking his water.

The rest of the dinner went by smoothly, he realizes what kind of people Jimin’s family are. They are honest and kind even his stepmom who seemed to go out of her way to compliment and tease Jimin, Jungkook couldn’t help but feel bad for her. It was not fair that she is putting effort while Jimin still hates her simply because she married his father, he could not help but think that it was more than that. The Jimin he knows and loves is not a petty person to hate someone with no good reason, maybe it was just another misunderstanding between them. He glances at Jimin, whose eyes are on the road, would it be bad if he tries to help them get past whatever it is that is making him hate her? Jimin turns around and catches him staring,

“Do I have on my face?” he asks, chuckling. Jungkook sighs, shaking his head,

“Just thinking, you have a nice family,” he replies, waiting for his answer. Jimin clears his throat,

“Hmm,” he says before turning back to the front as the lights turn green. Jungkook adjusts himself, remembering the day he ditched school with Jimin at the beginning of the semester. He did not know him but saw the sadness in his eyes and decided to go with him.  It was later that Jimin vented to him about his family and his stepmom, looking at him, he realizes that he really does resent her and blames her for his parents being separated. Jimin has the same look, he had that day and Jungkook knows if he continues talking about his family, he would just piss him off.

Jimin parks the car, it was already late, Jungkook takes off his seatbelt,

“Dinner was good,” he says turning to him.

“Yeah it was,” he replies smiling, “I’m glad you got to talk to my mom and dad, I think they like you more than me.” Jungkook rolls his eyes chuckling,

“How could they not? Parents always love me,” he replies boastfully. Jimin guffs, laughing. Jungkook clears his throat, “Jokes aside, maybe you can have dinner with my family next,” he says, gazing at Jimin,

“Of course, I would love too,” says Jimin his voice trailing, worried, Jungkook stares at him wondering why he looked worried.

“What?” he asks,

“Does your dad know your gay?” asks Jimin, “It would be weird if introduce me as your boyfriend if they don’t know you're gay.” Jungkook gasps, he totally forgot, he has never told his father that he is gay. He never liked putting himself in labels and boxes, so he never thought to come out to him. His sister is different, despite fighting and bickering all the time, he shares all his secrets with her, so she never asked him if he is gay, she knew already but he knows his father is different. Not being close to his father will make things more awkward,

“Aishh,” he says, staring at Jimin, “Maybe I should have a talk with him first before introducing you as my boyfriend.” Jimin laughs, covering his face,

“Wow, you’re something else, just skipping over all the steps huh, straight to meeting the family,” he mocks him.

“Ahh!” whines Jungkook, he never thought he would ever have to come out to his father, but it would probably be best to do that first before dropping the bomb that Jimin is his boyfriend. Jimin takes his hand,

“Hey, I’ll be here when you need me,” he says, “I’m sure your father will be okay with it.” Jungkook looks into his eyes filled with strength and hope, feeling optimistic. He takes Jimin’s hands,

“I love you,” he says, dimly and softly. Jimin unable to control his grin, shyly let’s go of his hand but Jungkook holds on to it,

“I wish we can stay like forever,” he whispers,

“Me too,” says Jimin, leaning in and kisses him on the cheek, before whispering into his ear,

“Too bad we have a test tomorrow.” Jungkook playfully glares at him, shaking his head,

“Come on,” says Jimin, opening the car door and pushing him out, laughing as Jungkook made his body stiff, “Go to sleep it’s late.”

“Can’t I at least get a kiss?” pleads Jungkook, Jimin nods his head no while pushing him but his push has no effect on him. Despite being older than Jungkook, he was surprised by his strength, for a sixteen-year-old, he is fit and strong. While pushing him to get off the car, Jungkook grabs his shirt pulling him forward and locking lips with him, both melting at the unexpected gesture. A simple kiss turning into a passionate making out session, taking their breaths and their bodies tingling from the sensation of their lips caressing each other. Wanting to devour every inch of their beings.

The sequel right now is on draft, I was excited to start it but then another plot starting bugging me so I decided to write that one first and then the sequel. Sometimes I get excited and rush through things and I hate doing that with my writings. So wait for a while, I will be finishing the sequel after Love Maze, I don't like doing two stories at the same time lol. Thank you for liking my stories.
