Jongin had gone to the lower class the next year and Inhae was still in the top class. She hadn’t thought that the boy would ever be on the lower class because he seemed so smart and be getting good grades but maybe because he had been playing too much to even study for the final exam.
So, at nine years old, she rarely sees him.
The lower class was just beside the top class, but Inhae still couldn’t muster up any courage to walk around and search for him. He wouldn’t even care about her, why should she care about him?
The only time when she would be seeing him was during lunch. She could see him running around with his friends, joking around and play with each other. Inhae admitted that she was jealous, because he sometimes played with the girls in her class whenever he came by.
She wanted him to notice her, sitting near the window as he played around with everyone.
Does he know that she was in this class?
Why didn’t he come and say hello?
Is he still salty about the fact that she didn’t sit with him last year?
But whatever the reason was – it was making them drift a part. As if they were stranger in the first place.
“Inhae, do you want to play with us?”
She looked up, staring straight at a girl with a bob styled hair, a girl in her class. “What game?”
“We’re playing house. We need someone as a mother, Jongin is already the father.”
At the mention of Jongin’s name, she hesitated. “I don’t want to. I have something to do.” She lied.
The girl obviously dejected when she declined the offer, jutting her lips as a protest but still forcing a smile. “Okay then!”
Inhae just watched her skipped to her group of friend that was outside of the class and among of them were Jongin.
The girl earlier was probably talking about her and that she had rejected the offer to be the mother because suddenly, Jongin looked at her way and immediately, she looked away, somehow embarrassed.
There was someone in her class that reminded her of Jongin.
He was funny, he was cute, he likes to play, everyone likes him and he likes Math. Inhae had always imagined Jongin whenever she looked at him.
But he wasn’t him. He wasn’t Jongin.
He didn’t smell like Jongin, he didn’t part his hair like Jongin, he didn’t smile like Jongin and he didn’t protest anything if she didn’t want to sit next to him like Jongin always does.
Inhae knew she like him.
That’s why her heart felt so heavy when she got the news that Jongin had moved away.
Nobody knows where he had moved. It took her three days to finally noticed that he wasn’t coming to school and she had asked Soojung about it which the girl simply answered,
“You didn’t know? He moved away. But I didn’t know anything.”
She didn’t cry.
Inhae had never cried.
But she just couldn’t shake away the heavy feelings in her heart. Why didn’t he tell her that he was moving away?
Guess she wasn’t as important as she thought she is.
But it was a good thing. Jongin moving away was a good thing. At least she could finally forget about him.
At least she thought that she would be.
