I Love You

Perfect

Won Sik heads home at four. His parents go home after he arrives, and Won Sik takes care of the kids now with the help of Soo Ah.

“Did they give you a hard time,” Won Sik asks.

“No. They're angels,” Soo Ah replies. “I couldn't prepare any food for you though. I'm sorry.”

“No. You're hurt. You shouldn't be working. Just take this time to rest.”

“But you're hurt too.”

“I'm recovering though, and I can use my legs and arms. Don't worry about a thing.”

A knock on the door is heard, so Won Sik goes answer it.

“Minah,” Won Sik says. “What are you doing here?”

“I couldn't get a hold of you, and I was worried,” Minah replies.

“I'm fine. I'm sorry I couldn't take any of your calls. I was busy with work.”

“You're always busy with work.”

“Come in,” Won Sik says.

Minah enters and sees Soo Ah. “Is she back,” Minah asks.

“Only for a little while,” Soo Ah replies. “Hello, Ms. Shin.”

“It looks like you got hurt.”

“Yeah, just a little.”

“Minah,” Won Sik says. “I have something to tell you.”

“What is it?”

“Soo Ah and I are together now.” He walks over to Soo Ah.

“You are?”

Won Sik nods his head.

“I should be mad,” Minah says. “But I'm not. I'm actually here to tell you something. I know I've been hard to deal with, but I just want to let you know that I'm giving up. I don't want to waste my time anymore. I'm going to travel the world and find my true self.”

“That's good,” Won Sik says. “I'm very proud of you.”

“I also want to say sorry, Soo Ah, for what I did to you.”

“It's okay,” Soo Ah says. “I forgive you.”

“Thank you. Congratulations you two.”

“Thank you,” Won Sik and Soo Ah says.

When Soo Ah is recovered, she heads back to her hometown. Of course she tells Won Sik first. He doesn't want her to go, but she wants to go back to her house and parents. Won Sik wants her to stay, but he understands her, so he lets her go.

When she gets back to her house, she checks her phone to see many missed calls and texts from Young Jae. She then goes and cleans up the house and mends outside of the house as well. Soo Ah is also trying to find a job and did get one as a cashier at a market.

The summer is going by quickly. Soo Ah didn't go back to school. Instead, she is staying at her home town working to save up for her tuition. She even got a job at the hospital as a custodian, and for her downtime, she studies about the human body by herself. She slowly works her way up and earns enough money to go back to school again after a year. Since it is her last year, and she's working for her local hospital, she earns herself an internship at the hospital she was at with Won Sik by connections and her hard work. Even though she doesn't want to leave her own home, she figures that she is going to have too in order to find a job and find her own life.

In between her busy schedules, she also makes time to talk to Won Sik and makes time to go see him and the kids. She also gave Junho and Soo Jung gifts she bought for them.

The two of them have been very supportive of each other. They also have their ups and downs, but that only makes their relationship stronger.

When it is time for Soo Ah to graduate, Won Sik goes and congratulates her. He buys her a bouquet of red roses and gives it to her at the end. Mr. and Mrs. Kim even goes to congratulate her because Won Sik and Soo Ah made it clear to them that they are dating now. Young Jae goes as well. He gives her a bouquet of spring flowers and congratulates her as well. After the graduation, she goes out to find more job interviews at hospitals and lands herself a job as a nurse.

Another year has past. Summer is just around the corner. Soo Ah has become an official nurse and found herself an apartment to live in. She goes visit Won Sik some days and takes care of the kids. Soo Ah also goes back to her house to check up and things, and they are perfectly fine.

One day, before Won Sik heads to work, Won Sik is getting his kids ready to go to his parents house. He is putting shoes on Junho while Soo Jung is running around the house playing by herself.

“Junho,” Won Sik starts. “Last time you said you wanted a mommy remember?”

“I remember,” Junho replies.

“And I said I needed more time.”

Junho nods his head.

“Well, I was wondering if you still want a mommy.”

“I do.”

“What kind of mommy do you want? Do you still want one like Ms. Lim?”

“I do.”

“How about I bring in Ms. Lim to be your mommy?”

“Really?”

Won Sik smiles and nods as he sees his son smile.

“I'd like that very much,” Junho says with a huge smile.

“Great.”

Won Sik takes them to his parents house, and then he heads to the jewelry store. There, he looks around the cases and observes the rings. He wonders which ring will look best on her finger. Won Sik sees a ring with a diamond in the center and smiles.

“May I see that one,” Won Sik asks the lady from behind the counter.

She takes the ring out and slides the case over to Won Sik. He takes the ring out of its case and observes it. The question that is in his mind now is will this ring fit her tiny delicate finger? He puts the ring on his pinky, but the ring stops midway.

“I'll take this one,” Won Sik says putting the ring back.

“Good choice,” the woman says. “It's our most popular item right now.”

Won Sik smiles. He hopes Soo Ah will like this.

After the woman bags up the ring for him, he goes back to his car and heads to work. When he parks his car in the parking lot, he puts the bag inside his car slot in front of the passengers side. He takes out his phone and calls Soo Ah.

“Hello,” she asks.

“Soo Ah,” Won Sik says. “You’re working now right?”

“Yeah. Do you need something?”

“I was just wondering when you get off of work.”

“Tonight at eight.”

“Will you come by? I have something to give you.”

“Sure. I’ll see you tonight then.”

Won Sik hangs up and heads inside. When he goes into Unit 3, there is already chaos. Everyone is getting ready to go out.

“What’s wrong,” he asks.

“There’s a car chase,” Toad says. “We are called in to be back ups.”

“Let me go too.”

“No. You should stay here.”

“Why? I’m part of the team.”

“We can’t risk you to be hurt again.”

“This is part of my job. Getting hurt is nothing as long as innocent citizens don’t get hurt. Please let me go too.”

Toad nods his head.

Everyone runs to their cars and starts their engine before they drive off.

Won Sik puts his siren on top of the car and speeds through traffic. After driving for a couple of miles, he finally sees other police cars chasing the culprit. Won Sik thought it was just one, but there are actually two culprits driving two cars. Won Sik steps on the gas pedal and starts chasing the cars. The police pretty much has the cars sandwiched, but no matter what, the cars will not stop.

“Pull over,” one of the policeman shouts. “We have you surrounded!”

“We’ll never surrender,” one of the driver shouts. He steps on the gas and goes even faster. The police car that is in front of him has to step on the gas as well in order to avoid a car crash.

Won Sik steps on the gas pedal and rides up next to one of the cars.

“If you don’t pull over,” Won Sik shouts. “We have no other choice, but to shoot you down!”

“Do it,” the driver shouts. He bumps his car into Won Sik’s car.

Won Sik’s heart jumps, and so does he. He knows he’s playing a dangerous game right now, but he knows that he needs to stop them.

The other driver drives up behind Won Sik’s car and bumps his bumper.

Won Sik jerks and tries to keep his car steady.

Seeing that Won Sik is in danger, the other policemen starts shooting the cars down. The culprits grimace and steps on the gas pedal. Won Sik also steps on his gas and tries to stop the cars. He merges to be in front of them, but the car revs its car into Won Sik. Won Sik jerks, and so does his car. He steadies his car again and tries to merge in front of car again, but the car once again revs its car into Won Sik’s car, and the other car hits Won Sik on the behind.

Everything happens so quickly. Won Sik is in his car trying to stop some runaway culprits, but because of an accident, he and his teammates are now being rushed to the hospital.

When Soo Ah hears about the news, her heart drops. She wants to stop everything she is doing to go see Won Sik, but she can’t, and Won Sik is in the operation room. When she has some free time, she rushes over to the ER to see Toad and Mr. Kim there. Toad sees Soo Ah running over to them, so he stands up.

“Soo Ah,” Toad says.

Mr. Kim hears and turns his head to see Soo Ah walking over to them.

“How is he,” Soo Ah asks worriedly. “How did this happen?”

“He hit his head pretty hard,” Toad says. “He was trying to catch some runaway culprits.”

Soo Ah gasps and her eyes become teary. Her legs become weak, so Toad and Mr. Kim catches her. They help her to the bench and sit her down.

“He’ll be fine,” Mr. Kim assures Soo Ah. “Won Sik is a strong person.”

“I know he is,” Soo Ah replies. “He’ll make it. Mr. Kim, have hope in him.”

“I do have hope in him.”

Soo Ah forces a smile to show Mr. Kim because she knows that he is also having a hard time.

“I have to get back to work,” Soo Ah says. “Tell me if anything happens.”

“We will,” Toad says.

Soo Ah stands up and walks away. She wants to break down and cry right there, but she can’t. She’s at work right now.

After two hours of working, she hears that Won Sik has moved to a patient room. She asks the ladies at the desk which room he is in. When she figures out his room number, she immediately goes check on him. Soo Ah opens the door to see Toad watching him.

“How is he,” she asks Toad.

“The doctors stitched up the cut on his head, but he's lost too much blood, so they're giving him a bag of water.”

Soo Ah looks at the bag hanging from the side of Won Sik and a tube that is transferring the water into him. His head is bandaged up. His lips also looks like it's also been scratched.

“He's fine, Soo Ah. He just needs rest. The doctor says he's still unconscious. He should wake up soon.”

“Thank you. Where is Mr. Kim?”

“He went home first. Mrs. Kim is the only one watching the kids.”

She walks over to him and caresses his hands into hers. A tear escapes her eyes.

“Don't cry, Soo Ah,” Toad says.

She wipes her tear away. “I have to go now. Please take care of him before I come back. I get off work in an hour.”

“Don't worry, Soo Ah. I'll take care of him. I also have to go see the others.”

“Okay. I have to go back to work now.”

“Go ahead.”

Soo Ah leaves the room and goes back to work. After the hour is up, she heads straight to Won Sik’s room. He is alone, so she closes the door and goes sit next to him. She caresses his hands into hers again. She brings his hand up to her cheeks. A tear escapes her eyes. This time, Soo Ah couldn't help but cry. She wants him to be okay. She wants him to wake up and tell her that everything is okay. She wants him to open his eyes.

Before she knows it, Soo Ah falls asleep. When she wakes up, the sky is dark. Won Sik is still unconscious, and she is still holding his hand. Soo Ah lets go of his hand and rubs her eyes. She goes get a bowl of warm water and a rag before she starts washing his hands tenderly.

“Are you still here,” Toad asks as he walks in.

“Yes. I want to stay with him tonight,” Soo Ah says.

“Okay. I'm going to stay with the other men than.”

“Go ahead. I'll be here.”

Toad leaves, and Soo Ah continues to wash his hands. After she is done, she pours the bowl of water out, and hang dries the rag. Soo Ah goes back to Won Sik and sits beside him.

“I hope you wake up soon,” Soo Ah says. “I'm so worried about you. I'm sure your parents and the kids are worried about you too.”

She takes his hand into hers again.

The next day, Soo Ah goes to work while Mrs. Kim came to take care of him. When she has time, she goes to look at the kids. Soo Ah would play with them and take care of them until she has to go back to work.

After work, she would take care of Won Sik and talk to him even though he can't reply.

A few days has past, and Won Sik hasn't woken up yet, but they have stopped giving him water. Soo Ah has been taking care of him, but today especially, she is busy running from here and there with work that she didn't have the time to go see Won Sik. Instead, his parents are there watching him. His kids are at the daycare center. Mr. Kim is on Won Sik’s left side while Mrs. Kim is on his right. She is wiping his hands with a wet rag when suddenly she feels him move his fingers.

“He's moving,” Mrs. Kim tells Mr. Kim.

“Is he?”

Won Sik starts moving his head, and all his limbs start to loosen up.

“Won Sik,” Mr. Kim calls. “Can you hear me?”

“Won Sik,” Mrs. Kim calls. “It's me mom.”

Won Sik’s eyes slowly open. His vision is blurry, but it quickly clears up, and he sees his parents in front of him. Won Sik looks around.

“Mom,” he says in his very raspy voice.

“Mom is here,” Mrs. Kim says as she holds onto his hand.

“Where am I?”

“You're at the hospital, honey.”

Won Sik stirs in bed and groans in pain.

“Don't move if it hurts,” Mrs. Kim says.

“I'll go get the doctor,” Mr. Kim says. He walks out to tell the nurses, and the nurses go tell the doctor in charge. When the doctor walks in, he examines Won Sik and asks him if he was in pain.

“Everything hurts,” Won Sik says.

“Your body is still recovering from the shock. That'll affect your muscles as well. You will feel like your muscles are weak, so you'll be in a wheelchair. We'll work with your muscles later. For the mean time, we will be giving you some pain medication. I know you're in pain right now, but since you just woke up, we won't be giving you the pain medication yet. The earliest we'll give you the medication is tomorrow morning.”

“Okay. Thank you, doctor,” Won Sik says.

The doctor leaves.

Won Sik tries turning his body, but groans in pain.

“Don't move,” Mr. Kim says. “You're hurting yourself.”

“But I'm uncomfortable,” Won Sik says. He tries turning his body again and stops when he finds a comfortable spot.

Toad walks in. He is so happy that Won Sik has woken up.

“Tiger,” Toad says. He walks over to Won Sik. “You're finally awake.”

“Yeah. How are the others,” Won Sik asks.

“They're fine. They've woken up too.”

“That's good. How about you?”

“I'm fine. Don't worry about me.”

“Are the culprits caught?”

“They're being examined right now. We'll take them in afterwards.”

“Okay.”

“You need to rest, so stay here and recover first. Don't even think about coming back to work until you fully recover.”

“Yes, Toad.”

He walks out to tell the others that Won Sik has finally awaken.

“How are the kids,” Won Sik asks.

“They're fine,” Mrs. Kim answers. “They're at a daycare center right now.”

“I feel like such a bad father. I've been getting hurt and working so much that I haven't been able to take care of them.”

“It's okay. Soo Ah has been taking care of them too.”

“Soo Ah? Where is she?”

“She's working around the hospital right now. She's very worried about you. Every night, after her shift ends, she's been in here taking care of you.”

“She has?”

“She hasn't left your side for one bit when she has free time.”

“I can tell that she really likes you,” Mr. Kim says.

“I know she does very much.”

“Okay. Enough chit chatting. You need to rest some more,” Mrs. Kim says.

“I am resting,” Won Sik says.

“You need to sleep.”

“I just woke up. I'm not tired.”

“At least just close your eyes. You need to rest.”

“Okay, mom.” Won Sik closes his eyes, and Mrs. Kim fixes the blanket on him. When Won Sik opens his eyes again, Mrs. Kim has gotten him food to eat. He feeds himself, but every time he moves even an inch, his body would hurt, so Mrs. Kim ends up feeding him.

“Mom,” Won Sik starts. “I've been thinking about it, and I think it's time for me to restart.”

“What do you mean,” Mrs. Kim asks.

“I want to marry Soo Ah.”

“You do?”

“Did you tell her,” Mr. Kim asks. “Is she willing to?”

“I haven't asked her yet. I was going to, but this happened,” Won Sik replies.

“I think it's a great idea,” Mrs. Kim says. “It is time for you to restart, and I find Soo Ah to be the perfect match for you. She gets along with the kids well, and she's very bright. I can also tell she loves you very much.”

“Did you know she talked to you a lot when you were still unconscious,” Mr. Kim asks. “She cried a lot too.”

“I bet she did,” Won Sik says. “Is she still working?”

“She is.”

“I agree with your mom,” Mr. Kim says. “I give you permission to marry her.”

“Thank you, mom and dad,” Won Sik says smiling. “Do you know what happened to my car?”

“It's at the repair shop right now,” Mr. Kim continues.

“Can you go get something in my car for me?”

“What is it?”

“I left the ring I was going to propose to Soo Ah with in the compartment in front of the passenger’s seat. Will you get that for me?”

“Of course. We'll get it for you and bring it over tomorrow.”

“Thanks, dad.”

That night, Mr. and Mrs. Kim heads home leaving Won Sik alone in the room. He is lying on his back with his eyes closed.

The sky is turning dark, and the lights are dimmed down.

After Soo Ah gets off from her shift, she immediately heads to Won Sik’s room. She opens the door and quietly closes it. Soo Ah walks over to him and sits down on the chair next to the bed. Since his eyes are closed, she thinks that he still hasn't woken up yet.

“I'm sorry I couldn't visit you at all today,” she starts. “My day was very busy. I'm sure yours was the same.” She grabs his hand and holds it. “I hope you wake up soon and have a quick recovery. I love you.”

He couldn't help, but smile.

Seeing that he moved takes her by surprise. “Are you waking up now?”

Won Sik opens his eyes and turns his head to her. “I've been awake,” he says with his hoarse voice.

She couldn't help but burst into tears. “When did you wake up,” she cries loudly.

“This afternoon.”

“Are you okay,” she asks examining him. “Are you hurt anywhere?”

“My whole body hurts. The doctor says I'm still recovering from the aftershock, so my muscles will feel weak. I have to remain in a wheelchair until I recover.”

“I was so scared,” she cries loudly again. “I thought you would never wake up again.”

“Don't cry,” he says wiping her tears away. “You might disturb the other patients.”

She nods her head and wipes her tears away.

He positions himself to sit.

“You'll hurt yourself,” Soo Ah says. She helps him sit up.

“I'm so glad I'm awake to see your beautiful face again,” he says after situating himself on the bed. “I was scared that I might not see your face again as well.”

Soo Ah’s right hand cups his left cheek.

“Everything's okay now,” Soo Ah says. “You'll recover and everything will be fine.”

“Thank you. I’m sorry for making you worried.”

Soo Ah shakes her head.

Won Sik caresses her right cheek. “I love you too.”

She smiles, and so does he. Soo Ah closes her eyes, and Won Sik starts leaning in towards her, but groans in pain.

“Are you okay,” she asks him.

“Yeah. It just hurts to move.”

“I’m sorry. Don’t move,” Soo Ah says. “Actually, you should lie back down.” She stands up and helps him lie down. “Just rest.”

He raises his hand up, and she takes it. Soo Ah sits down again and holds onto his hand tightly. Won Sik closes his eyes, and goes to sleep.

A few days has past, and Won Sik is recovering well, but his muscles are still making it hard for him to walk around. Some of his teammates even went to see him, and one by one, Won Sik tells them about his plan to propose to Soo Ah. He’s even told his parents, and asks for his parents to bring the kids in.

Today, his parents bring in his kids, and the kids run over to him. They’ve missed him so much, and he’s missed them.

“You must promise daddy you’ll behave when you’re in the hospital,” Won Sik tells his kids.

“We made a promise to grandma and grandpa already,” Junho answers.

Won Sik picks Soo Jung up and kisses her on the cheek. “I’ve missed you very much, sweetheart.”

“I miss you too, daddy,” Soo Jung says.

“And you, Junho,” Won Sik says. “I’ve missed you too.” He caresses Junho’s hair.

“I miss you too, dad,” Junho says.

“Are you ready to meet your new mommy?”

Junho nods his head.

“We have a new mommy,” Soo Jung asks.

“Ms. Lim is going to be your mommy,” Won Sik replies to Soo Jung. “You have to call her mommy from now on got it?”

“Yes, dad,” Junho says.

Soo Jung nods her head.

“Okay,” Won Sik says with a wide smile. Won Sik lets go of Soo Jung and removes the blanket from his body. He pulls himself out of bed, and with his dad’s help, he sits down on the wheel chair and starts rolling himself out.

Soo Ah is checking a patient's records when she gets called out by one of her co-worker.

“You’re needed on level 3,” she tells Soo Ah.

“Okay. I’ll be there,” Soo Ah replies. She puts the records away and takes the elevator downstairs. When the door opens, Toad is the first person she sees. “Toad, what’s wrong?”

“Tiger,” Toad pauses. “He. Uh.”

Soo Ah only thinks about the worst when Toad is stuttering like that. She rushes out of the elevator and heads to Won Sik’s room, but stops when she sees Won Sik in front of her. He is rolling his wheelchair over to her.

“Is something wrong,” she asks him. Soo Ah kneels down to be Won Sik’s height.

“I have something to ask you,” Won Sik says.

“What is it?”

He pulls himself out of the wheelchair.

“What are you doing,” she asks as she helps him. He stands up with her help, and he holds onto her to maintain his balance.

“I know I get hurt a lot, and I’m a pain to be with. I work all the time and have little time to be with you, but you’ve put up with me and gone through so much because of me. I would like for you to go through more with me. Together.”

He kneels down with one knee.

“What are you doing,” she asks him surprised.

“Lim Soo Ah,” Won Sik starts. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a black box. He extends his arm to her, and opens the box showing her the ring he bought the other day. “Will you marry me?”

She covers with her hand and tears of joy start running down.

Won Sik waits for her to answer him.

She nods her head and Won Sik smiles widely. He pulls himself up, and Soo Ah helps him. He steadies himself before he puts the ring on her ring finger. Her right hand doesn’t move from . She stares at her new ring, and tears continue to fall.

Everyone claps and cheers for them.

“I love you,” Won Sik says.

“I love you too,” she replies.

He wraps his arms around her middle, and she wraps her hands around his neck. Since he is too tall for her, he has to slouch down for her to be able to reach. He just pulls away from the hug and looks her the in the eyes, but his leg muscles give up on him. Everyone gasps when he is about to fall, but Soo Ah catches him.

“Are you okay,” she asks him.

“I’m fine,” he says catching his balance. He puts his hands around her waist again and pulls her for another hug. Soo Ah puts her arms around his waist, and puts her head on his chest listening to his heart beat as fast as hers.

Everyone claps and cheers for them again. Some are even surprised that Won Sik would get married again because he always busied himself with work and his children. They never saw him date, but now that he is going to get married, they are happy for him and Soo Ah.
