Sungyeol’s early childhood was spent in Korea. After marriage, his mother went to her husband’s place where they settled happily. But as time passed, the love between them started to fade away. They fought daily in front of small Sungyeol. They used to say mean words to each other and throw whatever was in sight. This was the daily routine and Sungyeol had to deal with it every day. When he was still a junior at his school, his mind was so tensed. He had to witness the horrible scene daily and since he was a little kid, he used to get pushed away when he wanted to stop his parents. So his childhood did not consist of happy memories as of other kids, he never got the love that a kid desires or needs. This affected him severely and he used to be silent in his class.

He hated hearing kids talking about how their parents bought them this and that, he despised the kids who used to share about how they had family dinner the night before, his heart broke to listen stories about their family outings. He was not jealous of them, he just wished for the similar experience but since he could not enjoy their talk, he slowly drifted away from them and became a loner.

Other used to for being a loner, they used to call him “Mute kid”, “Loner”,  and different other names. This made him drown in sorrow even more. All these was suffocating him and he wanted to shout so much, he wanted to run away from this cruel world but where could he even go.

After years of quarrelling, when Sungyeol was in 6^th grade, his parents got divorced. After that his mother got his custody who took him to his grandmother’s house in Japan. So from then on, he lived with his grandmother.

After coming to Japan, he received that love from his grandmother which he never got before. Due to his nature, he used to stay closed and did not talk much but his grandmother loved him so much. She used to prepare delicious foods for him and always used to wait for him to return from school. His new friends thought that he was awkward due to language barrier only, so they approached him warmly. They tried to help him in everything. 

His grandmother always felt bad for him. One day, she his hair and said, “Poor Yeol-ah, it’s such a shame that you have to bear all these things when you are still so young. I am very much sorry baby from your mother’s and even father’s side. You don’t deserve this, you need to enjoy your childhood as others do. I am sorry for whatever you had to go through dear. Grandma is sorry.” As she finished her saying, she immediately got up and went to washroom. Sungyeol followed her immediately sensing something is wrong to see that his Grandma was crying. He felt so bad for her and that day he determined that he is going to change, there is no longer need to keep himself locked when he has got such loving grandmother and supportive friends. He went and back hugged his Grandma and whispered, “Aieru Grandma.” His grandma turned around and hugged him dearly and declared she loved him so much.

From then on, he kept on smiling for his Grandma, for his friends and for himself.

Seeing L reminded him of his old self. So, maybe that’s the reason he wanted to break down the wall the Silent Prince is keeping with the world. And he sincerely believes that this could be done through love, he wanted his new friend to come out of shell. He wanted to build the friendship with him, such bond that could make him stronger to face the world.

He told about L to his Grandma, who is his best friend from his childhood and who listens to everything Yeol has to say passionately. After that he happily jumped around and went to buy Udon which is L’s favorite as far as his observation.

His heart was light as he was returning back towards the dorm. His Grandma’s voice was ringing in his mind, “Yeol-ah, it’s good to help others but don’t be too pushy. If you want him to open up to you, instead of asking what’s troubling him, try to be close to him, make him feel your sincerity, be true friend to him. Then one day, he will surely share his burden to you. Love you dear, I know you can do it.”

When he entered the dorm, L was watching a picture which he immediately hide when he heard the door creaked open. Sungyeol saw that but instead of asking what he was looking at he showed him his beautiful smile and his favorite food. He remembered his Grandma’s word, “Don’t be too pushy.”

“L-ah, let’s have dinner together.”

But L ignored him and kept on being silent. This was not a new behavior, Sungyeol was already used to it.

So, he poured the food in two plates and came to L requesting him, “Come on, I have not ate anything till now and I am super hungry and I don’t want to eat alone. Sungjong has his project to complete. And I have brought your favorite food. Please accompany me,nae…nae…nae.”

Sungyeol was doing aegyo and using his doe eyes to persuade L. This definitely had some effect on the cold boy as he stood up and went to sit down in front of the table.

Sungyeol shrieked, “Asaaaa” in a dolphin voice and joined L. As L took the first mouthful of Udon, Sungyeol waited to see his reaction. Seeing him pause for a bit and the twinkle in his eyes, he asked, “L-ah, is it good. That store has the best Udon here.”

L with his cold face answered, “It is not bad.”

That was enough to make Sungyeol super happy. 

The next day Sungyeol went to anime store and got the best animes out there.  Sungyeol had noticed that L was a big Japanese anime fan. Since he was not much of an anime enthusiast, he asked the store keeper and bought all whichever was recommended.

When L entered the room, Sungyeol was searching which anime should they watch first. L saw the mess Sungyeol had created in the room.

“Thank God, you came timely. Please help to find one good anime. I have to write review about it for my next assignment.” Sungyeol found excuse for his immediate interest in anime.    

“Watch Kimi No Na Wa then. This is the latest one and has got positive response from worldwide.” With this he was going to enter his room to freshen up but Sungyeol yelled, “Please watch with me. I don’t think I can write the review with my own understanding so please help.”

That doe eyes were definitely L’s weakness because he immediately agreed, “Okay. Let me freshen up first.”

After Myungsoo entered the washroom, he shut the door and could feel his heart beating fast. He took long breathe to calm himself. What is this feeling? He had never ever felt this way before.

They watched the movie together and at the ending part, Sungyeol was trying to control his sobs. He seemed so pure, so innocent, so fragile. L wanted to hold him and wipe away those tears but he refrained himself.

Noticing the soft stare that L was directing towards Sungyeol, he wiped his face with his beautiful hands recklessly making him look like a kindergarten kid. “I am so sorry L-ah. I am a crybaby when I watch emotional movies. I’ll go wash my face.”

“It’s okay. You don’t have to be sorry. It’s alright to be emotional at times.” L spoke so softly that Sungyeol felt like melting. He had always got that stoic tone but this angelic voice was totally new to him.

“I will go wash my face.” Sungyeol went inside and saw in the bathroom mirror that his cheeks had a shade of pink.

Sungyeol slapped himself and shrieked “Ouch” as it went a little hard so, it pained a bit. He shook his head and reminded himself, “No…this is not right. I need to be his CLOSE FRIEND to share his burden.”

After he came back to room, they stared at each other and the room became quite for a while.

“It was a nice movie. Thanks for watching with me.” Sungyeol shouted to get rid of the awkward silence.
