Four years later

“It just happened like this, in fact, it wasn't planned at all. I was just doing some shopping with my brother and suddenly we saw this sign saying some entertainment company in the surroundings were having auditions the exact same day. I really didn't want to do it but my brother dragged me there, he put me on the list and we spent more than twenty hours waiting for my turn to finally arrived. I had chosen a song two hours before and I really didn't practice it either since I was sure I wasn't going to be selected anyway but... well, I did sing and played the piano a bit since the jury offered me to play something quick and then I left and they told me they would contact me if I was to be chosen. Then three weeks passed by, weeks during which I completely forgot about the audition and one day, some called me and this woman on the phone told me I had been chosen to become a trainee at their company and that I could come the next to talk with them and to sign the contract if I wanted to. I couldn't believe it. Really. Even when I signed the contract and moved into the dorms with the other girls it was impossible for me to believe it.”

“So when did you start realizing it was real?” the host of the show asked.

“When we started having really intense trainings,” Byeol laughed nervously, “we would only have one or two hours of sleep a day and we would spend our times in the training rooms dancing and singing until our voices just died. It was exhausted and I often found myself feeling like giving up. But my brothers and friends were always there to push me and to force me to carry on.”

“And you weren't a trainee for too long right? You debuted pretty early.”

“Yes, I had only been a trainee for nine months which is the shortest amount of training time in the group, because my other members had at least been trainees for a year and a half.”

“And you're also the leader, which is even more surprising.”

“When the PD told me he wanted me to be the leader, I asked him if he was really serious and why me and not the other girls. And he told me he knew I had all the qualities to be the greatest leader. I doubted him but I just went on with his choice and so I became the leader of Midnight.”

“Midnight is known to be a group in which all the members get along very well, on the social medias we can see you are always together and you seem to have a lot of fun too.”

“Yeah that's right,” Byeol smiled, “we are very united and we always fight together to face any hardships to reach the top. Three years ago we started with six members and we'll remain six members in any situations.”

The host smiled and suddenly changed subject. He crossed his legs and allowed Byeol to drink a bit since she had been talking for more than thirty minutes without a break.

“So you are very close to your members but you also have a lot of famous friends who are idols just like you. Is that true?”

“Yes it is,” she smiled.

“And the rumors has been saying that you are particularly close to VIXX, the boy group which has debuted one year after you did.”

“Yeah, yeah that's also right. I'm really close to the boys.”

“First of all Hongbin is your brother. You appeared together on this new show two months ago in which we enter two siblings' everyday lives and in which one of the siblings is a celebrity. Turned out that both Hongbin and you are famous.”

“Hum,” she nodded.

“And you also went to the same high school as all the other members of VIXX.”

"That's right. Taekwoon oppa and Hakyeon oppa graduated one year before Hongbin, Wonshik, Jaehwan and I did, and then Hyuk graduated one year after us.”

“And you often go on variety shows with them. Just last week we saw you with N with whom you often are, and you also hosted with Wonshik and Jaehwan last year. You sang a few duets with Hyuk too. In fact, if there is one member with who we don't often see you, it's with Taekwoon.”

“He is really busy on his side and even if we don't really see each other in person a lot, we are often sending text messages to each other.”

“You know that they are a lot of fans outside who are waiting for you two to finally appear together, right?”

“Well, I'm not going to say anything because I don't want to reveal too much, but those fans may or may not be happy soon.”

She flashed an obvious smile and the host laughed.

“Well, thank you Byeol for today, we're really thankful and glad you accepted to do this interview with us and I hope you had a great time.”

“I had, thank you.”

“A word to say to your fans before leaving?”

“Please keep looking forward to Midnight and I promise you we'll keep doing our best for you to enjoy our music. Thank you to all of you who support us and I hope to see you soon.”

Byeol was herself a kpop idol now. Not only she was the leader of a famous group but she was a public figure and people were recognizing in the streets and people were even coming to see her sing on stage. The same girl who used to be too shy to stand at the board in classes or to even hang out in town was now famous. The same girl who nearly had a panic attack the day she sang at the prom at the end of the year five years ago now, was singing in front of thousand of people from all around the world and they were applauding her and congratulating her for being a star. She was often receiving messages from her fans saying she was like a role model for them and that they wanted to be just like her, and Byeol could only thanked them and told them to just be themselves and to always fight for what they wanted. “It might be hard but one day, everything will be alright,” she had said once in an interview which had became her most famous one, “you just have to be patient and to do your best for it to happen.”

“And you,” the host who was doing this interview asked her, “what did you do for everything to get better?”

“Me?” Byeol had laughed nervously, “nothing. I did nothing. But my friends helped me a lot. Without them, it wouldn't have been possible.”

“Your friends?”

“Yes... my friends.”

And no matter what she kept saying and doing, she couldn't stop thanking her friends. Without them, she wouldn't be where she was and she wouldn't be as successful as she was. And she was glad they had themselves became famous (except from Yun who was now studying law at the Seoul National University and who was more than happy to be surrounded by hot young clever and rich boys. Jaehwan had broken up with her the moment he had became a trainee because he had to choose between his girlfriend or his future, and though Yun had had hard times accepting it, now she was more than alright and she was still talking to Jaehwan and all the boys, but mainly talking to Byeol since they were best friend after all.).

“Noona! Hi!”

Byeol snapped out of her thoughts and looked at the door of the dressing room where herself and her members were getting ready for a special scene to see Hyuk waving at her. She stood up and let him enter. She made sure no cameraman were following him and asked him if he was alone.

“The hyungs are getting ready but they say they would come and see you before your shared stage.”

“Well, they'd better hurry, we are leaving in a few minutes.”

“Hi Hyukie!” Jiyeon, the oldest member of Midnight appeared behind her leader who was two years younger, “how are you?”

“Hi sunbae,” the boy shyly answered, “I'm fine thank you and you?”

“I'm fine! Where are the other members? Especially Hakyeon, I'd like to see him.”

She wriggled her eyebrow in a very obvious way and Byeol laughed along with Hyuk. The make-up artist called Jiyeon so she left them alone again.

“Are you worried?” the younger boy asked her.

“As usual, yes I am,” she nodded, “but it will be alright. The girls will be with me and I know you and all the boys will also be watching us so I must do the best!”

“Don't worry noona, you're always the best.”

“Oh~ Sanghyuk!” she laughed and gently punched his shoulder, “you're really nice.”

“Time to go!” Midnight's manager entered the room and shouted.

“We're coming!” the six members of the girl group answered at once.

“Fighting!” Hyuk cheered up on his sunbaes.

“Please look forward our stage,” Byeol smiled.

“I will,” he assured.

“And tell Hakyeon to wait for me in the backstage,” Jiyeon winked and they left.

When they arrived in the backstage, Byeol felt like her heart was going to burst out of her chest. She had been doing this for three years now and the excitement and the fear was always the same: she couldn't get used to it. Her members were loud and all happy about what was coming next but Byeol couldn't but being silent and murdering her lower lip. When someone handed her a bottle of water, she drank half of it in one go.

“Oh my! It's VIXX!” Jiyeon giggled like a fangirl and Byeol looked at her left to see only four members coming out of their dressing room. They were all dressed and ready and they seemed fine, better than her in any ways.

When Hongbin saw here, he immediately ran toward her and quickly kissed her cheek. There were probably cameras around but apparently he didn't seem to care at all.

“How are you doing?” he asked, “ready?”

“Not like I can't go back now.”

“You'll be fine, don't worry and...” he leaned a bit more and whispered in her ear, “Taekwoon hyung will be with you.”

“Fortunately he will be,” she laughed and from the corner of her eyes, she saw the said boy talking with Jiyeon and Yonghwa, the maknae of Midnight. When he caught her looking, he smiled and she couldn't help but blushed.

A few minutes later, he approached her and her brother and without a word, he grabbed her bottle of water and drank what was left in one go. He also pushed his black hair back before handing her the now empty bottle.

“You know that if people saw what you've just did they'll go crazy, right?” Hongbin asked his hyung.

“I know, but I don't care,” he shrugged off.

The shy and not very talkative Taekwoon had somehow vanished during the past four years and when he was hanging around his friends, he was more than feeling great. Yet, on stage, he remained shy and didn't like to talk or express his feelings but there was no doubts he loved his fans and was very thankful too since he was only living his dream thanks to them. And he also had his high school friend by his sides and also, he had Byeol.

Though it had been complicated at first for him, especially with Hakyeon, they definitely warmed up during their trainees years and now, fans were shipping them together and it was only entertaining the boys who liked to show a lot of skin-ship and more on stage (well, Hakyeon especially liked it). Today, the group was very united and they were doing just fine.

(Also, during all of these years, Byeol and Taekwoon couldn't help but wondering what had happened between Hongbin and Hyuk but the oldest of the two had answered that he wasn't so sure himself and that they both had tried something while they could. Yet, Hongbin had told Byeol that they were nothing but just good friends now and that they were both fine with it. And if Hongbin was happy, so was Byeol.)

“Please get ready!” the studio manager shouted.

“Yeah!” the all answered at once.

Byeol, along with Hongbin and Taekwoon met Jiyeon, Yonghwa and Leah, the Korean and American girl of the group, and also Jaehwan and Hakyeon with whom they were going to perform. It was a special stage and it was the very first one they would have in common, but the most stressful part for Byeol was that she was paired with Taekwoon. Not that she didn't believe or trust him because she obviously did, but it would be the two of them dancing together on the same stage: the boy whom she was dating but with whom she couldn't be since they both had a dating ban (well, they both used to have a dating ban until Byeol's three years contract ended a few months ago and freed her from this stupid rule, now she could whoever she wanted, but she only wanted Taekwoon who still had another year before having no more dating ban. But she was still waiting and she would wait.)

“You go on stage in two minutes!” the studio manager shouted again.

“Ready?” Jiyeon asked.

“Ready,” Hakyeon smiled.

Byeol nodded and bit on her lower lip, wondering if she would succeed and do a good job. Her aim was obviously to do as well as she had done during the rehearsal so that she wouldn't shamed Taekwoon who seemed to have faith in her. When his arm slid around her waist, she discretely leaned a bit more in his embrace. Not a word was said, but no word was needed either.

“You'll do well,” he whispered in her ear right before they got on stage.

“I guess it's now or never,” she simply chuckled to try to relax herself.

He smiled and nodded. With one last quick kiss on her temple, they got on stage.

“I'll be there,” he told her, “don't worry.”

And she smiled, because she knew he was saying the truth.
