race. (No.1)
One to Want : Countdown to Escape
"Can I join the race?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because you'll only get the last place anyway."
He grumbled and huffed in anger at the reminiscence. Sure enough, it wasn't a technically false statement. He's always at the last place, but if there's no one to take the last place, a race wouldn't be a race, would it?, he tried to reason to himself.
He just liked to join an event where there are lots of people, struggling alongside himself. It gives a sense of comfort. Even if he always end up struggling more than the rest. He just didn't like the feeling of struggling alone, all by himself.
But now, they've all left him. All alone, in the desert.
They've completed the race for today, and the bus had taken them all back to their school, without even waiting for him.
What's the point of joining a race, if you end up alone in the race?
Perhaps they were right after all.
