Hey everyone ! Sorry for the update delay, I'm currently studying for my mid-terms and I have a lot in my mind so I can't write that easily. Also, I did not start writing chapter 29 so I don't know when I'll be updating next. Give me some ideas if you want, because I'm really not inspired these days. I hope you'll enjoy this chapter. It's gloomy, just like my thoughts. You've been warned.

The first thing Dongwoo distinguished was darkness. It surrounded him, but not in a threatening way. It was like he was in another dimension. He felt so light, like his body vanished and he was the essence of himself, without any physical carapace. It was a pleasant sensation. Afterwards, he had the displeasing sensation of feeling stiff and numb all over. Dongwoo couldn’t tell how time passed, because the darkness never stopped and himself wasn’t conscious, he just felt. He had wanted to scream when he felt the first shot of excruciating pain spasm on his body. But he couldn’t scream. He couldn’t call for help. Suddenly, the darkness enveloped hit him like a wave, and he couldn’t find the strength to struggle.

It was the middle of the night. Sunggyu managed to convince Dongwoo’s mother to let him watch over him during the night so she could rest and come in the morning. After all, it wasn’t like he had anything to do, like running a company or preparing a wedding. His world had stopped with Dongwoo’s accident, and will only start again when he’ll be waking up. He was circles over Dongwoo’s palm when the machine started to scream a loud beep. He looked up, alarmed, when three nurses and the doctor ran in the room.

“What’s happening ?” Sunggyu asked.

“Sir, you have to leave now.” One nurse grabbed him, trying to take him away.

Another nurse was opening Dongwoo’s medical gown and applied two patches on his chest while the other gave two handles to the doctor while she stood near a defibrilator machine.

“Charge 150. Clear. Shoot !” the doctor exclaimed.

The nurse stepped away from Dongwoo as the doctor gave the first electric shock.

“Still no pulse !” she shouted, eyes on the flat line of the machine.

“250 ! Clear ! Shoot !” the doctor pressed the revivers against the patches.

Dongwoo’s body spasmed, his chest raising, put fell flat on the bed after the doctor removed the revivers.

“What’s happening ?” Sunggyu screamed.

“Someone get him the hell out !” the doctor shouted. “I’m trying to save a life here !”

“Please sir, you have to go.” The nurse said, still dragging him away.

“No !” Sunggyu screamed, struggling to get out of her grip. He managed to, but was instantly grabbed from behind by someone stronger.

Sunggyu turned his head to see who dared to restrain him. It was Howon. But not the one Sunggyu was used to, strong and sassy and hopelessly in love with Nam Woohyun. This Howon was someone he never saw before. He was crying, and the light usually burning in his eyes was extinguished. He didn’t strike Sunggyu as a fighter, ready to do anything to achieve his goals and dreams. He looked like a broken wreck, and for a second, Sunggyu worried over him before his thoughts went back to Dongwoo. The nurse shushed them both out, closing the door to their faces. Howon let go of Sunggyu once they were outside and fell on the nearest chair he found. Sunggyu paced for a while in the corridor before eventually sitting down, leaving one chair between them. He heard Howon muffle his sobs before breathing shakily. Sunggyu couldn't bear to look at him. He was a very bad hyung, letting his dongsaeng and friend cry without even comforting him. But he was himself too torn to be of any help to anybody.

“I really don’t get people like you.” Howon said after a long silence.

“What do you mean ?” Sunggyu sighed tiredly, not in shape to have a word clash with Howon.

“People like you, like Woohyun, privileged and spoiled…” Howon sighed. “You say you love Dongwoo, but you got engaged to someone else. Woohyun loves me but keeps pushing me away. I can’t understand that.”

“It’s complicated, Dongwoo and I. But I don’t think it concerns you. I won’t try to justify myself to you, Howon.” Sunggyu said firmly. “And don’t judge Woohyun. You may think that we are nothing more than spoiled brats, but all we have is not granted. It comes with a price. Woohyun pays his, just as I pay mine.”

“What’s that supposed to mean ?” Howon spat.

“You don’t understand a thing, do you ?” Sunggyu sighed. “You’re so busy victimizing yourself and cry over you lot and the things you can’t have that you don’t even see how much it costs him to let you go.”

“I shouldn’t have to. We love each other.”

Sunggyu had a bitter laugh.

“After what happened with me and Dongwoo, you’re naïve if you think being with someone like Woohyun is just that easy. Maybe you don’t realise it because Woohyun is humble and modest and chose not to have any part on his family’s business, but I know where he comes from. If you think for a second that the youngest son of Nam Group can be with whomever he wants, you’re either stupid or lying to yourself. The fact that you’re a celebrity doesn’t help. In fact, it makes it twice worse, because not only you’re at the mercy of his family, but the entire world. He tries to protect you from all of it, just like I tried to protect Dongwoo, but… We saw how well that turned.” He added bitterly.
