Jongdae stared at his reflection in the mirror.  Around him, multiple stylists were attending to him and the other members.  They pulled at his compliant hair and gelled it back, revealing his pale forehead.  They shaded his feline eyes with dark shadows and eyeliner, though not as much as Baekhyun.  Jongdae felt some sympathy for the other, but Baekhyun had learned to enjoy it.  It became part of his look.

“You look good,” Baekhyun said as he saw Jongdae glance at him through the mirror.

The other shook his head and smiled.  “Not as much as you.”

“Cheesy twerp,” Baekhyun murmured teasingly.  He shook his head.  Jongdae only smiled in response as the stylists continued to work on them.

They painted temporary tattoos on their necks and arms, and Jongdae found himself getting lost in the way they sprayed them on and moved their brushes.  He stared at the black ink that stained his skin and sighed at the faint memory of a tattoo in the back of his mind.

Kris’ Borneo Scorpion.

He never showed it, as the stylists always made an effort to cover it, even with thick makeup.  However, the few times Jongdae saw it, it intrigued him.  

But now that he was gone…

Jongdae sighed heavily.  No one was doing well except for him and maybe Baekhyun.  They had each other to lean off of, and it made them a bit guilty showing their happiness with the other members around.  Even Jongin and Kyungsoo, who weren’t particularly close to Kris, felt betrayed and saddened.

Some say they were betrayed.

Others encouraged it fully, saying that it was about time that Kris left.  

Jongdae could say he was somewhere in the middle.  Of course, he was disappointed that Kris left, but he felt like it was a bit better.  He hated admitting it, but it felt like it was probably better without Kris being so bitter.

After a while, they were sent into the back to change into their performance clothes for the first act, Mama.

“You ready?” Baekhyun breathed into Jongdae’s ear, giving him shivers.

Jongdae let out a soft hum as they lined up before strutting onto the stage in their dark suits.  They could hear fangirls screaming, and Jongdae’s heart pounded.

This was it.

He had to shut everything about Baekhyun and Taeyeon out for the time being.  He had to become Chen.  The happy-go-lucky beagle of EXO.

It was easier said than done.

“Go,” one of the directors ordered.

As a group, EXO walked out onto the stage after their Lost Planet intro.  Jongdae’s hands were shaking as he reared the group.  He kept his eyes focused on Baekhyun, who seemed to walk confidently onto the stage.  They took their places confidently before their intro “Haka” started.

Jongdae collapsed on the couch of the waiting room, his face drenched in sweat.  He sighed happily, knowing that the show went surprisingly well.  He had fun while doing it.  He couldn’t get the grin off of his lips as he sat there, exhausted and worked to the bone.

Baekhyun sat down next to him and cuddled with his arm.  Jongdae squirmed before pushing him away.  “What the heck, Baek?” he muttered, amused.  “If you’re tired, then go cuddle with Sehun or something.”

“Not with that sweaty beast!” Sehun shouted from across the room.

Jongdae laughed.  

“Good job,” Baekhyun said, closing his eyes as he lay his head on Jongdae’s shoulder.  

“You too,” Jongdae said softly.

That moment seemed peaceful.  They stopped worrying about their anxieties for a couple minutes, and they felt at ease next to each other.  Jongdae closed his eyes and leane
