The Greet

Tangled

“This is gonna be the last one Tiff, we can’t be late to the shoot with Dior,” my manager said in my ear before leaving to tell the security team probably. I nodded.

I wish I could have stayed another hour or at least long enough to make up those extra forty minutes I wasn’t here because of the bad traffic, but I knew I couldn’t… especially today.

Today was the shoot for Dior’s fall line and it was a huge deal.

Apparently every female model, actress, singer, and celebrity in general was vying for the job, until they confirmed the two they had selected that is. I couldn’t have been happier about the selection either.

Not only did I get picked, but my close friend Seo Joohyun did as well. It was going to be so good to see and especially to work with her again. I don’t think I’ve seen her since before the European leg of my World Tour which was what… six? No, eight… months ago?

Wow, it’s been awhile.

Since Seohyun is one of the biggest models in the industry though, I’m sure she’s been equally as busy. She almost had to be, I see her face so often when I’m in Korea!

I felt a nudge on my back and retuned to my senses.

“Hi~,” I said excitedly to the puffy eyed boy in front of me. He however, didn’t say anything… per usual.

This same exact boy has been to so many of my fan meetings, I don’t know how he wasn’t tired of me. He sure does leave an impression though, I mean how can I forget about the boy that cries the whole time I’m trying to be friendly with him?

Whatever, I’m just lucky that they’re told to write down their name on a piece of paper beforehand. If I had to wait on him to tell me I would still be waiting at the first fan sign he ever attended… no joke.

He was probably only about thirteen though and so, so cute. I was proud that out of all the other noonas he could love this much, he chose me. I-

“Okay, that’s it everyone,” the security man yelled. I jumped. Omo… “Tiffany has another schedule and this is all the time she has with us today,” he continued.

“He’s loud, huh Joonki-yah?” The boy nodded with tears in his eyes. Aigo~! “Okay, let me have your CD for a second and I’ll sign it,” I smiled.

He adorably set the CD on the table and pushed it closer to me, trying his hardest not to get his hand anywhere close to mine. I couldn’t help but smile even bigger than before.

Ah, I definitely love my fans.

I started to hear some of the other fans in line start yelling and calling out to me, but I couldn’t bring myself to look at them yet. I didn’t want to see their let down faces until I really had to leave.

This was no one’s fault but my own… well my driver’s I should say… but still!

I felt horrible I couldn’t see all of them and I would feel even worse if I looked at how bummed out they are.

“We want to thank you all for coming out and-”

“You’ve got to be ting me,” a husky voice said from somewhere in the line. Omo…

I don’t know if I was caught off guard by the brashness or if it was just the phrase itself, but I instinctively let out one quick, but quite loud chuckle.

I quickly caught myself before I started actually laughing, thankfully. The reporters would’ve loved that one.

Tiffany Hwang encourages unruly fan’, or something along the lines I’m sure… They were truly the best at twisting things around. Their imagination was incredible.

“And hope to see you all next time~,” the security guy finished saying loudly.

The rather hilarious phrase the fan had just said repeated in my head again and I smiled. Gosh, why was that so funny to me?

A better question though was who in the world said that? They totally deserve an autograph. I usually don’t laugh much at these things… well for real at least. I mean I don’t usually get more than thirty seconds with each fan, maybe more if they come in a group of two or three, but still.

They usually just come up to the table, tell me how much they love any combination of me, my music, or any other work I’ve been in, give me the item they want signed, and as soon as I sign it, and thank them of course, they’re led off by a staff member to make room for the next fan in line.

Sometimes it varies, but not by much. Like instead of telling me they like me they’ll ask me a fun question about food, clothes, or something random like what I did the past weekend. Oh and of course there’s the always great yet sometimes creepy compliment on my outfit and hair.

Don’t get me wrong, I love hearing their praises and… Okay, I could honestly live without the older ‘uncle fans,’ as they like to be called, sometimes making really weird comments about my clothes and well anything really.

Ugh, that was the worst…

BUT other than that, which only happens rarely anyway thank god, I could never get tired of hearing it, any of it… who could?

The fans and their love for me was the only thing that got me to where I was in the first place and I would never look down on it… but it’s all very repetitive at these events.

Maybe if they gave me a longer time with each fan I’d be able to have real conversations and connect with them more, but who knows… I doubt I’d get to try anytime soon anyway.

I’m not complaining about my fans or anything like that at all, but when someone drops a statement like that rather than a ‘oh you look so pretty today’ it’s definitely eye opening to say the least…

I tried to sneak a quick peek at the culprit, but the huge security man was in the way.

Aish…

Now I was curious.

I heard the same voice say something I couldn’t quite make out over the crowd as I gave the CD back to the precious little Joonki and thanked him for coming… again. A staff member led him away from the table and I quickly called my manager over to find out what in the world was going on in the line.

The security guards deep voice said something again that I couldn’t understand before the girl snapped back. I unfortunately couldn’t tell exactly what they were saying due to all the extra commotion in the room from other fans yelling and leaving and who knows what else and I was so upset about it!

I really wanted to hear this!

I made out the words ‘five hours’ but that was about it.

Ugh!

“Sunny, what is going on over there,” I asked urgently. She shrugged.

“I don’t know, the next two girls in line are getting feisty because they can’t see you… nothing new.” I nodded. I guess she was right, but no other fan has ever used that kind of language around me like that either.

Maybe it was something new… it was different at least!

“Can’t we let them in,” I asked hopefully. Sunny shook her head and I heard the security man talking again.

“Tiff we have to go, and I already said that that was the last one.”

“He shouldn’t count though Sunny, I see him every time. I want to meet new fans too,” I pouted.

Actually I was just curious about this one in particular…

“Tiffany we really don’t have that much time to-”

“Good,” I interrupted. “Ahjussi,” I called out to the man.

“Tiffany,” my manager hastily whispered. I stuck my tongue out at her just as the security man started to turn around.

Sunny said we didn’t have much time, not ‘no’ time after all…

As the security guy turned though, he revealed the owner of the voice to be none other than… wait what?

No way…

That girl said those words? My grin couldn’t be contained.

This was totally something new.

“Let them through,” I grinned. “I have time for one more.”

“Are you sure,” the security guy asked. I nodded excitedly.

“After them it really is the end,” Sunny ordered. I nodded. “Hwang Miyoung, I’m seriously going to injure you one day, I hope you know that.” I flashed my eye smile.

“Not today though~,” I sang through my teeth.

The man let them through the rope and I was finally able to get a better look at the person responsible for singlehandedly making my day a little bit better.

It was two girls that came through, just like Sunny said but I’m assuming the older one was the culprit… I sure hoped so at least, I mean the other girl looked about 10. She also looked terrified now that she was close enough to where I could make out her expression. Omo.

I quickly smiled at the younger girl in hopes I could ease her nerves, but I think I did the exact opposite… great.

Her eyes grew wider and she gripped the older one’s striped shirt that much harder.

Aigo~! Terrified or not, she sure was adorable.

I took a look at the older of the two now and- holy…

My smile momentarily dropped out of pure shock.

Due to my many, many years of being in the business though I was able to pull myself together without too much damage being done.

She sure caught me off guard... again.

Not only was this girl one of the most entertaining people to come to one of my fan signings, she was surprisingly also one of the cutest too.

I’m not talking ‘little kid’ cute either.

Gah, I don’t know why, but I honestly was not expecting her to be this attractive.

Now I was even more intrigued.

I took a better look at the girl as she stepped closer and I could make out all her features perfectly in this bright light. I swiftly looked her up and down and got even more excited to talk to her.

She looked maybe a little younger than me, but I was never good at telling people by age. The girl was thin, but not too thin like the celebrities I see all the time. Her eyes were bright and carefully looking at who I’m now assuming is her sister. Her nose was small, yet perfect for her face and her lips, oh my gosh. Her lips looked soft and they were easily the exact definition of the word luscious.

I could not wait for her to speak.

Actually I didn’t even want to wait anymore, I was so curious.

“Hi~,” I said just as energetically as the past however many hundred times. “Sorry about that, I think my manager got her times a little mixed up.” The older girl’s jaw clenched.

Omo. She isn’t going to yell at me too is she?

Her cute outer appearance completely made me forget about her straight up cursing the security team just a minute ago.

“It’s okay,” she said calmly. “My little sister just really wanted to meet you. She’s a huge fan.”

“Well thank you…,” I trailed off as I looked for the paper that was supposed to have her name on it.

It wasn’t there though…

Oh god, did I lose it? Did they not-

“Hyoyeon. Her name is Hyoyeon.”

Whew~!

“Right, thank you Hyoyeon-ah, your support means so much to me,” I said warmly to the girl… earning no response whatsoever.

Awesome… Zero for two here Miyoung.

“And you,” I asked the older girl.

“Taeyeon.” Uhm…

“Huh?”

“What?”

Taeyeon? What did-

Oh duh… She must have thought I was asking for her name. I smirked.

At least the cutie had a name now…

“No,” I replied with a smile. She gave me an adorably confused look right back. “I meant a fan,” I clarified. “Are you-”

“Oh,” she cut me off, finally understanding my question. “No, not at all.” I smiled.

“Well I- Huh?”

Wait… What?

She said… no?

She didn’t just say ‘no’ though either, she kicked it up a notch and added ‘not at all’ right along with it.

Omo, I kinda wanted to laugh.

Like… did that really just happen?

“Hyoyeon-ah, isn’t there something you wanted to tell her,” the older girl asked sweetly, completely dropping the last subject without a trace. I smiled at the tone of her voice, but I was still a little thrown off.

I just- She- Why…

I mean how could she just say it so bluntly like that too?!

For her information, I’m also a person…

I’m a likable person as a matter of fact!

I-

“You-you’re my favorite singer Tiffany un-unnie,” the little girl said while half hiding behind her sister. I quickly recollected my thoughts and went into fan-meet mode once again.

Right.

“Well that’s even better because you’re one of my favorite fans,” I smiled before leaning over the table a little. “But don’t tell everyone else okay?” The little girl nodded with a thin smile and that made me feel so much better.

At least I could make some people happy here today…

Ugh.

I just could not believe she said that to me…and here of all places!

It’s my fan meet for pete’s sake! She-

“I-I,” the little girl stuttered again, pulling me back from my head. “I entered the contest you made unnie,” she adorably grinned. “I-I really hope I win so I can see you again.” She had the most precious little eye smile plastered on her face as she took another step from behind Taeyeon.

“Omo,” I said excitedly. “I hope you do well in the contest too Hyoyeon-ah, I would love to see you again. I-“

“Ahem,” a voice that I know all too well sounded from a few feet away. I took a quick look at Sunny only to see her motioning once like she was signing something and then again to her watch.

Ugh, right. I had to go!

I really couldn’t keep the people at Dior waiting.

I looked back at the two girls in front of me and smiled again.

“I have to go soon Hyoyeon-ah, so is there anything you want unnie to sign before I leave?” Her eyes practically bulged before quickly handing me her copy of my latest CD.

So cute!

“Ooh~, nice choice,” I complimented. “Which song is your favorite?”

“I don’t have just one Tiffany unnie, all of them are my favorite,” the little girl said excitedly. I smiled.

I was glad she was finally starting to come around.

“That’s the best answer I’ve heard all day Hyoyeon-ah,” I cheered before handing her back the CD.

Of course it wasn’t the first time I heard that answer today, but it was still my favorite nonetheless.

I really did love my fans.

The Dior shoot went perfectly and it was even better to catch up with Seohyun.

She just got back from a fashion show in New York and told me all about her time in Los Angeles since she knows that’s where I’m from.

The more time I spent with her though made me realize just how much I missed her.

Since we both pretty much grew up in the spotlight together, her with her acting and me with my music, we had so many things in common. We both knew things about the industry that ninety percent of people wouldn’t even understand and it was so refreshing to have someone that knows exactly what it’s like to talk to.

We also promised to go on a coffee date when both of our schedules match up again and I really couldn’t wait for that to happen.

I also couldn’t wait to get this fan signing underway. I had been behind this makeshift ‘stage’ for ten minutes waiting for the green light from Sunny to head on stage, but it was nowhere in sight.

I waited another five or so minutes before finally being allowed to go and start meeting my fans.

Just like I had figured though, because of the delays and the event bringing in way more people than humanly possible to meet with in the two hours I’m given anyway, we were going to have to turn people away… again.

Ugh.

I always felt bad when we had to do this, but it was the stupid event planners fault for letting three hundred or more people wait in line when we all know that two hundred and fifty was usually the maximum…

“We want to thank everyone for coming out to see Tiffany today,” the man in charge of the event said over the microphone. I took a quick look at the front of the line, half expecting someone to make a commotion again, but it didn’t happen.

The thought of yesterday’s little outburst popped into my head and I couldn’t help but smile.

I’ve thought about it a few times since yesterday actually and it made me just as happy as it did when it happened the first time.

I seriously don’t know how Sunny didn’t find it funny…

I wasn’t going to lie either and say I didn’t look for her here earlier when I scanned through the crowd, because I did. I don’t know why, but I really hoped she would be here for some reason… even if she wasn’t a fan.

Maybe I wanted her to liven up the place with her off the wall comments again or maybe I really wanted to see her attractive face for a second time. I don’t know. Maybe I just wanted to be near someone that didn’t treat me like a celebrity all the time. Besides Sunny, she was the only person to ever act like that in front of me.

Even my anti-fans treat me like a star… just in a not so friendly way.

This girl honestly didn’t care about me one way or another though and it was somewhat refreshing.

I mean she didn’t even care that she totally dissed me, in front of me yesterday so I can only imagine what it would be like on a daily basis.

Okay, I definitely wouldn’t want to be dissed every day or hear that someone that cute didn’t like me at all, but I’m sure-

Oh who am I kidding?

Seoul has a population of what? Like ten million?

I was never seeing that girl or her precious little sister again. Even if I knew their surname it would be like finding a needle in a very large haystack.

A few minutes later though was when I found the magnet that was going to help me find the needle.

“Today was the deadline for your dance cover contest Tiff,” Sunny informed. “I sent all the entries to Gong Hyunwoo in PR. He’s going to get a team and sort through the-“

“No,” I said, cutting her off. “I want to do it.”

The image of little Hyoyeon telling me she entered my contest popped right in my head and I knew this was it.

Omo, this wass totally my chance.

“You will Tiff, you’re going to pick the best out of the top twenty remember?” I nodded. I did remember that now that she said something, but who knows if little Hyoyeon would make it to the top twenty?

“Yeah, but I want to do it all,” I replied. She looked at me in disbelief. “What? It is my contest Sunny…”

“I know that, but there are over a thousand entries Tiff, you’ll never have time to watch all those and we need the winner in a week.”

“Oh my gosh. Over a thousand? Really?” She nodded.

Gah, I was impressed, but I did feel bad for whoever has to actually sit through all those videos…

If that was the case though, she was right. It would take forever just to watch all the entries let alone sit down and choose a winner.

Ugh, I really wanted to find her now that I had a way to do so though… what should I do?

I didn’t know exactly what I’d do if I found her either. It wasn’t like I could just call her up and say ‘Hey, this is international pop singer Tiffany Hwang, let’s be friends!’

It-

“Tiff?”

Oh right! How was I going to find her in the first place? I could worry about everything else later.

I racked my brain for a few seconds, but then thought of the most obvious answer… duh Tiff.

“Okay, then I want them to hold out any entry filed under the name Hyoyeon or Taeyeon for me.” She looked even more confused. “No questions,” I added with a smile. Her confused stare turned into a glare and I really hated when she did that.

“I don’t know what you’re up to Hwang Miyoung, but it better not be anything stupid.” I nodded.

“It isn’t. I promise.”

“Fine then,” she sighed before typing into her phone. “Do they have last names?”

“Uhh… Nope.”

“Tiffany,” Sunny groaned.

Woops~!

I guess this haystack was a lot bigger than I originally thought!
