How does one break up with one's boyfriend through text message and not seem like an ?

After several moments of contemplation, Haeri comes to the dismaying truth: there is no way to not be an . With a sigh, she takes out her phone and starts a new message to Sehun.

we need to talk

His reply comes quickly.

uh oh :)

Haeri frowns at the smiley face.

i'm serious

Sehun: alright, i'm listening, i'm listening

Haeri: i'm breaking up with you

Haeri puts her phone down, flooded with relief and too scared to look back at the screen. She's done it. There's no going back now. Sehun's reply takes a little longer this time to come. When it does, Haeri can barely bring herself to look at the phone.

no, she texts back. this is for real

but why? did i do something?

NO, she texts back again. i promise, it's nothing to do with you. but i don't want to talk about it. we're done.

To her utter dismay, Sehun doesn't give up. please, haeri, give me a chance. let's talk about this at school tomorrow. we don't have to decide things like this

I told you we're done, Haeri texts back angrily. It's not as if she wants this either. She just can't deal with anything anymore.

Fine. Sehun replies, and Haeri relaxes. But there's more. I don't know why you're being like this right now, but I guess you're just really through with me, aren't you?

Haeri doesn't reply.

Her phone beeps.

But we're still going to talk about this tomorrow.

Haeri stares at the message, deletes Sehun from her contact list, and begins to cry.

Haeri does not want to talk to Sehun. She makes up her mind on the way to school to avoid him for the rest of her life, if possible. Sadly, Sehun does not make her aspiration possible. Even though she tries her best to hide from him, he somehow hunts her down as school is ending and corners her near the back of the school. Haeri keeps her eyes on the ground.

"There isn't anyone around here," Sehun begins, "so we can talk openly. Tell me what's happening."

Haeri keeps shut.

"Haeri," he cajoles, "please just talk to me. I'm so confused. Why did you break up with me? What can I do better? I still want to be your boyfriend. I love you, Haeri."

Haeri's breath catches, but she refuses to look up. Sehun's fist slams the wall next to her, and she jumps, startled.

"Dammit!" he yells. "Why do you make this so difficult? At least look me in the eye!"

"Sehun," she murmurs finally, and he stills.

"Yeah?" he asks, voice cracking.

"Goodbye," she manages.

She can feel Sehun's eyes on her as she turns slowly and walks away.

With each step, she feels her heart breaking, too.
