Aish, the weatherman forecasted wrong today.

Let me tell you first so that I don’t confuse you.

I’m not like Jonghyun-hyung, whose flirtatious demeanor provides him with an endless line of foolish women waiting for him. Secondly, nor am I like Onew-hyung, always polite, upright and abiding rules all the time. Don’t even get me associated with Key; we have absolutely nothing in common. Minho on the other hand is a complete sports workaholic, up to the extend it makes him an athletic geek.

Lee Taemin is unique.

With four so different people as my brothers, I don’t get bored easily. There was always endless drama surrounding them. Yes, even monotonous Minho. As the school holidays come to an end, those who are eager to meet up with Father’s expectations are getting their gear up. I see one reading, the other sewing sequins, one on the mobile phone and another doing sit-ups.

Today, there wasn’t any thrill with them to serve entertainment purposes.

I sat around like a statue for one whole hour waiting for some action - maybe Jonghyun-hyung dumping some girl over the phone, or Key’s poisonous alter ego to prevail.

Instead, watching Minho perform his exercise steadily was like counting sheep before falling asleep, and Onew’s constant “I finally got it!” reminded me of when I once played Kingdom Hearts II, where Phil’s (from Disney’s Hercules) “Get onto the Hydra’s back!” annoyed me until I ended up destroying the controller instead of the monster I was supposed to defeat.

Well, I long outgrew console games like that one.

And I knew staying another minute in that room would drive me insane.

I put on the training suit that was deep buried inside my closet and went out for a jog. Some random thoughts come to mind when you’re doing nothing but running, taking me back to the scene the other night when I saw Nana pulled Minho’s hand. What she said was inaudible at the time. I only managed to catch the reply and his reaction.

Securing the headphones playing booming music, my arms went back to moving back and forth. Seriously, he was blushing again for that night. It’s uncommon. I was wondering what could have happened between those two. Minho was the one who least interacted with her.

Putting that aside, I feel like seeing her. All the time after I almost kissed her.

And with that last line in my head, rain started to pour.

It hadn’t even been half an hour since I stepped out of the house and I’m going back. I predicted ‘sunny’ today, and the weather changed abruptly. The sun was up and there weren’t any grey clouds.

*Cough* if there had been, I doubt I’d notice since thinking about her makes myself completely absorbed.

Stepping inside, where it was warm and dry, the house phone rang. I took off my sweater and went to pick it up instead of relying on the maids. Nobody calls the house phone. If they’re looking for one specific individual, there was always the mobile phone number.

I just felt the urge of receiving the call that moment. A light thunderstorm rumbled at the background.

“Hello?”

There was no answer.

“Hello, this is the Lee household.” I repeated impatiently.

Five seconds later, I was ready to put down and curse the prank callers when I got a reply I least expected.

“M-May I…s-speak…t-to…Lee Soo Bin-sshi…p-please?”

It sounded like her stuttering, like she had been crying.

Impulsively without bothering to offer to take down her message-

“Nana-sshi?”

She didn’t sob or say anything. I just know it’s definitely her.

“Nana-sshi? Are you okay?”

A tap on my shoulder and I turned around. It was my father. I didn’t see him come back. Bowing to him as a sign of welcoming home, he took the receiver from me as I passed it to him willingly.

I wanted to hear her voice, but not like this. Never like this.

So I stood still at the same spot, more curious than ever about the conversation taking place between my father and the girl I just met. The old man kept on his infamous poker face and muttered simple answers with no attempt of consoling whatsoever. In less than ten minutes, he finally hung up.

“What happened, Father?”

With his hand still pressing on the phone, he kept quiet for a while, solemn and unmoving. But I’ve never seen remorse and regret in his eyes before until today.

“Min Shin Hyun had just passed away this morning.”
