When Memories Become Dirt
"Haneul, can you take the attendance sheet to the office, please?"
I pretended to not hear the substitute teacher and raised the volume in my earbuds, blasting rap music. Usually, I wouldn't be this disrespectful to a teacher. But considering everything I've been going through... Sighing, the sub called on another student to complete the task. "Hana, can you do it instead?" She extended the piece of paper to my half-asleep friend/partner in crime. I snorted under my breath. The sub must've taken notice to me, yet didn't say anything. Hana rubbed her eyes tiredly. "Me? Really?" She yawned, but grabbed the sheet nevertheless. Hana was on my side, but that didn't mean she wasn't submissive to others. Me on the other hand... Hana sulked over to my desk. "Hey, Haneul." She rapped her knuckles on my wooden desk. I glanced at her once without removing my headphones. She rolled her eyes. "Hey, get up and go to the attendance office with me." I turned the volume down and groaned. "But it's so far away." Hana crossed her arms. "Well I'm not going alone!" Giving in, I swung my legs off the table and got up. "Fine, but this is only because I don't wanna do this history worksheet." I allowed my headphones to dangle from my neckline and I shoved my hands into my jacket pockets. "K, let's go." I led the way into the hallway and waited for Hana to catch up. She said, "Hey, I know you're all mopey about your Sehun situation, but what gives? You were pretty rude to the sub. You're never rude to elders in general." I rubbed my temple as we continued walking down the corridors. Soon, we had to cross campus to get to the attendance office, and so I pushed open the double doors. A gust of wind almost knocked us over; it was pouring rain. "What the heck?" Hana grumbled. "It wasn't raining during lunch." I shrugged. "It won't be that bad-" "Are you out of your mind?! Haneul, I know you're really depressed, but walking out there drenched in rain won't help anything." I remained silent. She sighed. "Whatever. Let's walk back and ask if anyone has an um
