One shot (8): In Another Life



The first time he met the brunet was during the Goryeo Dynasty. The black haired man remembered how the brunet died- the brunet was stabbed mercilessly by their enemies. They were both soldiers representing their country. As stupid as it sound, how could the general died while protecting Woohyun, who was a lieutenant colonel, instead of the country.



The brunet was able to sense the danger that the black haired had faced. The wounded and exhausted Woohyun was surrounded by a group of soldiers- he had lost his strength and was too tired to defend himself. Unable to hold on any longer, Woohyun shut his eyes tightly and waited for death. The black haired man knew it was a cowardly move because he promised the general that they will win this battle together, move out of the country and grow old together. 



Woohyun finds it strange when he felt the familiar warmth as someone hovered over him protectively. The lieutenant heard the familiar loud and low painful grunts as he opened his eyes widely. No, it can’t be! "NO!" The lieutenant yelled angrily, eyes glistened with tears when he saw the horrible image in front of him.



His lover, the general, was stabbed in all directions by their enemies, while protecting him from getting hurt. It was as if time had stopped, at that moment all the soldiers turned their heads to look at where the sound of the painful and loud cry came from- only to see the dead general in the arms of their lieutenant colonel. 



The death of their general riled all the soldiers as they fought with all their might, killing their enemies brutally. The five soldiers that were surrounding Woohyun were dead in a flash when the black haired lieutenant went out of control when he saw his lover's death. The group of army won the battle but they had lost both of their talented general and lieutenant colonel. 



A second chance was given to Woohyun. The man with bright red hair appears right in front of him, on a straw from his milkshake in a small cafe. It's technically the first time Woohyun had seen the red head but yet the brunet finds him awfully familiar. He felt a strange sensation and chills as goose bumps crawled up his skin. No, this is definitely not the first time he had saw that red head. When Woohyun looked at the pale and flawless face and into the small eyes of the red head, flashbacks came into his mind. 



The flashbacks feel like a dream instead. Woohyun wasn't in the present but in send back the past- at least a few centuries ago. The brunet was dressed as a high ranked soldier- like those reruns played on his television every Saturday. Woohyun stood in front of another even higher rank soldier- possibly a general. He couldn't see the higher ranked soldier’s face as his back was facing him. "What's your name?" the higher ranked soldier asked.



The melodious and soft voice of the higher ranked soldier sent shivers down his spine. "Nam Woohyun, lieutenant colonel, sent by the king to assist you," Woohyun replied politely as he flashed a broad grin, even though the general couldn’t see his smile. Just when the slightly lower ranked soldier was about to take his leave, the general turned.  "I'm Kim Sunggyu, general of the army," The general said as he put his hands in front of the lower ranked soldier for him to shake. Woohyun, who was looking at the whole conversation, like an invisible man, gasped in surprise.  



Woohyun was then returned back to the present. Sunggyu definitely look different now. Sunggyu’s previous light brown haired was now flaming red in color as it tempted the brunet to run his fingers through the fiery red soft curls. Sunggyu had a skinny face with fierce, cold eyes and dark tanned skin in the past.



However, the present Sunggyu looks so squishy with his cute chubby cheeks. The red head’s skin is now pale white and soft like marshmallows and he had very gentle small eyes. The red head looked so intimidating in the past yet now he looked like he couldn't even hurt a fly. Sunggyu looks extremely carefree, nibbling his straw, with his earpiece stuck in his ears as he stared into the space right in front of him, not giving a about the world. 



Woohyun doesn't understand why and how it was possible for this to happen- him able to see his past. The brunet wasn't even sure if the flashbacks were his past or just his mere imagination- he needed to find out. Woohyun definitely felt a tiny pull of attraction towards the red head, something about that man just intrigued the brunet and he wanted to know more about the red head. However, before Woohyun could approach the red head, Sunggyu was gone. 



"I love you," Woohyun confessed, the small eyed man just stared at him with an unreadable expression. It took Woohyun two months to chase after Sunggyu and make him his. However, the serious man wanted his relationship to be a secret and Woohyun agreed to it- as long as Sunggyu accepted him. The bright rays hits Woohyun's face lightly, he slowly opened his eyes and realized that the confession never happened and it was just a dream. No wonder the both of them wore a heavy bronzed plate- they were in a different era.



Subsequently, Woohyun had continuous series of dreams of the beautiful red head. The brunet was freaked out by his dreams- his dreams felt so real to the point where Woohyun questions himself if the dreams were memories from his past life. The worst part is that the brunet had not even met Sunggyu ever since the first time he saw him in the café.  

Woohyun doesn’t know how to stop his dreams- it was killing him with curiosity. Sometimes, the brunet wonders if he had gone insane as he prayed every night for his dreams to never stop. Woohyun’s dreams were just like an addictive drama without an ending. Even if he didn’t understand why his dreams felt so real but, there was one thing he was positive- Woohyun and Sunggyu was both in love. The general had only shown his soft side to the lieutenant and he was sure of it.



The night when Woohyun dreamt of the ending, he woke up drenched in sweat- crying. The brunet doesn’t understand why he couldn’t stop crying and he felt like he had gone mad- he almost ran out of the house to search for Sunggyu and make sure he was still alive. However, Woohyun can’t even do that because he doesn’t even know where Sunggyu stayed.



It doesn’t feel real when Sunggyu stands right in front of him- it felt like it was just another dream he had. “Hey, are you alright?” Sunggyu asked in concern as he placed his hands in front of Woohyun, trying to pull him up from the ground. Woohyun told he had gone insane from dreaming of Sunggyu too much when he saw the red head. “Hello?” The red head waves his hands in front of the brunet’s face vigorously.



“I’m fine,” Woohyun blinks his eyes and replied as he accepted Sunggyu’s help. Before the red head would walk away, the brunet held onto the long sleeves of the red head’s shirt. Looking straight into Sunggyu’s dark brown orbs, he wishes the red head to have a flashback just like him. However, the red head just gave him a weird stare as he pushes Woohyun’s hand away before turning away.



“S-Sunggyu!” Woohyun yells bravely and he managed to catch the red head’s attention. Sunggyu stops his movement as he turned his body and walked back towards the brunet. ….He didn’t tell me his name…..He is going to think I’m a stalker now…… Woohyun chided himself as his face flushed deep red as he unconsciously called out the red head’s name without a second thought.



“Please, listen to me,” Woohyun begged as his eyes glistened with tears. The brunet didn’t want to lose his only chance to at least befriend the red head. Sunggyu tilts his head as he waited for the brunet to continue his words. “I’m not a stalker but I think I have gone insane,” Woohyun chuckled humorlessly as he stared into Sunggyu’s eyes. “I keep having dreams of you, and I don’t even know why,” The brunet said as he ran his fingers through his chestnut brown hair.



The red head was void of expression and suddenly burst into fit of laughter. Woohyun frowned as he realized that Sunggyu wasn’t taking him seriously. “Just forget what I said,” The brunet growled as he turned to leave. This time round, it was the red head who had stopped him from leaving. “Is this a new pick up line?” The red head asked cheekily.



Woohyun grunted and felt so embarrassed from his previous ‘confession’. Of course the red head would have taken it as a joke- did he actually expect Sunggyu to believe whatever he had said? “Nam Woohyun,” The depressed brunet looked up in shock when Sunggyu called out his name. “Or should I say, Lieutenant Nam?” The red head whispers next to Woohyun’s ears. There he goes mocking me again- WAIT WHAT? Woohyun gulped as he felt cold chills.



Woohyun pouted as he listened to how Sunggyu had flashbacks on the exact same day he first had. Sunggyu had been looking for him too but yet, the brunet couldn’t be found. The red head decided to give up looking and move on with his life because just like Woohyun- Sunggyu thought he had gone insane. However, Sunggyu bumped onto Woohyun and that was how they were both sitting right next to each other in the same exact café where they first saw each other.



“You’re so mean!” Woohyun said as he looked at Sunggyu with narrowed eyes. The red head just chuckles at the brunet’s reaction. “You make me sound like I was a mad man!” The red head burst into loud laughter when he heard what Woohyun had said. “It’s all your fault,” Sunggyu said as he slowly stopped laughing and look at Woohyun seriously. 



“You broke your promise,” The red head spoke in a soft and sad voice. Woohyun stopped faking angry and tilts his head in confusion. “You didn’t even try to defend yourself,” Sunggyu mumbled but the brunet heard what the red head had said. At that moment, Woohyun understood everything- Sunggyu was also scared of losing him, he probably saw their ending and cried too.  



“Don’t worry, this time round…..I will be general instead,” Woohyun assured as he pulled Sunggyu forward into a warm embrace. Even though it was the first time the brunet had hugged the red head, but it felt so right. Woohyun still doesn’t know how it was possible for them to see their past but there was one thing he was sure of- they still love each other just as much.
