The One with the Twisted Heart
Ever EnoughIt did hurt her pride to actually accept a marriage by arrangement. She was quite confident with herself—outside and inside, and it hurt her dignity to admit the fact that she gave up herself to an arranged-marriage.
In the first month before the engagement, going out to work was really a big deal for her. She feared people’s stares and judgments when she walked past by them, even those who did not know her and her stories. Her best friend, Hayoung, used to tell her: Even if they knew, so what? All people go to blind dates and get themeselves into marriage arranged by their parents.
However, Han Huisoo was so much into herself to even consider the truth in Hayoung's advice. She always dreamed of bumping into a nice guy in a bus stop or a book store and had a further conversation with him—and if possible, grow close to each other. She would go out on countless dates with him and decide whether or not he was the right person for her. It was the scenario that she wanted to play in real life, her own version of fairy tale. However, the evidence so far suggested that it would be too sentimental to the point of foolishness, now that she was off-limits.
The fact that her fiance was a leader of a private enterprise did not make it any easier. Public might not know about the arrangement things, but a week before and after the engagement, she could see her name and her face on Dae Hwan's electronic billboard at the heart of the town and on local newspapers, and it certainly was not making her feel any less troubled. She would say, that it was not a picnic to see her own face turned up anywhere else than on her id card, despite the pretty words some press had described her with.
Nonetheless, as much as she did not want to admit it, some things had turned another way around these days. She did not know exactly when and how it all started to fall into place, but she liked it better. Maybe, because little by little, both of them had found the rhythm, the regular patterns of treating each other in given situation. Like today for example.
“We have to wait, they’ll be out in minutes.” Jongin said while taking off his dark shades and rested on the bench nearby the international arrival terminal. He, togetehr with his fiancée, was there to welcome some Chinese guests—Dae Hwan’s future partnership.
Huisoo just stood there with a cup of cold coffee, staring at him whose hands stuffed into his slack’s pockets. She had no other options but standing since there was no vacant seat left. Well, there was (actually), but her oh-so-gentleman fiancé preceded her by claiming the remaining space on the bench and left her standing dumbfoundedly.
“Excuse me, Jongin-ssi,” He turned head to meet a pair of dark brown eyes staring straightly to him, “I know you’re not too gentleman but you should actually show some manner in public.” She remarked.
He scanned around in case somebody might hear her saying and eventually met with an innocent stare on his right side. He smiled to the kid before he rose up as he slightly swished his outfit clean.
“Excuse you, Ma’am, if you can’t find a seat, you just need to ask.” He said sternly while dragging his fiancée down to his previous seat next to a little boy.
Huisoo was right, he thought. He was not a fan of mild manner but he was not going to let her s
