She's A Gun.
“Oh my, you’ll never guess what I just received.”
“What?”
“A card.”
“And what’s so fascinating about a card?”
“Not just a card. A handwritten card. From Kris.”
“How sweet of him.”
“I guess, though there’s not much in it. Only a few sentences.”
“And what do they say?”
“It is said that good communication is just as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after. Yet no amount of coffee has ever kept me as awake as you do.”
“Here’s a cup of the finest coffee in town for this lovely lady” Kris says as he places two cups of coffee on the table and sits down in front of me.
“And how did you know what I like?” I ask as I take a sip of the coffee.
“Well, have you ever heard of the fact that the coffee you drink can define you?”
“Now you got me interested. Go on, love.”
“Well as far as I know, the people who usually drink their coffee black tend do be quiet, hard-bitten and moody. And that kind of reminds me of you.”
“Oh really? Then I guess it’s time for me to change my image for I have become too predictable.”
“That’s nonsense. You’re as predictable as the weather.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
“You should. Though don’t take my words into account. Some people drink they’re coffee just because they like it that way. For example, I like my coffee to be like me – simple and plain.” He smiles a dashing smile.
“That’s funny, because I like my coffee to be like me as well – dark and bitter.” I say as I throw him a cheeky grin.
“Speaking of bitter, what happened to the ‘I don’t let a man buy me anything’ attitude that you were so proud of before?”
“It’s still here, I’ve just decided to give you the special privilege of not hearing it for once.”
“And what have I done to deserve this honour?”
“Let’s just say it’s my apology.”
“And what deed you should apologise to me for?” His face changes into confused one.
“I want to apologise for my rude behavior last time. You were trying to be nice and I was acting like a spoiled brat. Though in my defence, it’s kind of your fault, because you started the talk about independence and flowers.”
He laughs. “In all honesty, I’ve never met a one like you.”
“Well if you keep up throwing these cliché phrases, you probably never will.”
“Fine, fine. I’ll save the rest for the next time.”
“Oh just be quiet and drink your damn coffee.”
“So he took you out for coffee and the wrote a card for you? How sweet.”
“No, no, no, you got it wrong sweetie. I was the one who took him out for coffee. I just let him pay for mine this time.”
“Sure, sure, whatever you say. As long as you had a good time, it doesn’t matter.”
“Well what can I say, any friend of coffee is a friend of mine.”
