CHAPTER8
Panting, the trio backed away from the door, worried something might come busting through. With no peep coming from outside, Junggie broke the silence, “Where is Noona and Kris Hyung?”
Miah winced, knowing she had left them behind. She tried to tell herself Kris would take care of her. She had to repeat it over and over to console her guilt.
“Don’t worry about them, I’m sure Kris will take care of your sister,” Suho assured. Junggie nodded, knowing the truth behind his words, and Miah sighed, feeling just as reassured.
“Let’s just be happy we’re safe in here,” she muttered, placated, but still worried about her two MIA friends.
“But..how do we know it’s safe in here? What if those things are in here with us?” Junggie suddenly whispered wide eyed.
Miah blinked not having thought of that. She unconsciously stepped toward the two men.
“Let’s..just go down to the basement. It should be safest there for now,” Suho quietly said, looking around nervously.
They began looking around, searching for a door that would lead to the basement. Miah walked past some stairs leading up and noticed a heavy brown door set into the side of them. She stepped closer and wrapped her hand around the golden knob. Pausing, she worried about what would be on the other side. It’s now or never. She swung the door open, jumping back in case anything popped out. Nothing happened even after a few minutes and she sighed in relief.
Trying to make anything out she could, all that could be seen from the doorway was a blank darkness. Stepping closer Miah looked in, and felt around the inner walls. Her hand touched a switch, which she immediately flicked on. A dim light flickered in the distance, then brightened and illuminated a set of ratty steps leading down.
“Guys I think I found it!” she called out, trying not to be too loud in case any monsters were really in the house with them.
The guys rushed over to take a look. Agreeing it had to be the basement, Suho offered to go first to make sure it was safe. Feeling like a coward, Miah let him while clutching onto Junggie's arm. They waited for Suho to come back and after a few minutes of silence she quietly called out, “Suho-ah?” No reply came at first, then light footsteps were heard, followed by Suho’s form filling the end of the stair case.
“It’s safe,” he smiled up at them. Miah wondered how he could smile in a situation like this or maybe it was just her that wasn't as strong as she thought she was.
Slowly creeping down the stairs, she stayed glued to Junggie’s side. Once at the bottom, Suho rushed past startling them. He immediately shut the basement door, and fixed the unstable lock on it into place.
Scared, Junggie shook out, “Where are you doing hyung?” “And why are you locking it?” Miah finished for him.
“Being down here won’t help if one of those monsters decides to just come up and enter this house. The lock is for extra protection,” he coolly replied, not mentioning how weak the door probably was in providing protection.
Also knowing this, and ignoring it, Miah looked around. It was a normal basement as far as she could tell. Dark and musty; with a few boxes here and there. There was even a small ladder in the corner.
“What were those things? And what do we do know?” Junggie asked still shaking. Miah couldn’t answer him though, she didn’t know how to. She was wondering the exact same thing after all. Looking toward Suho for some kind of guidance she noticed he was looking off into space. He obviously didn't know either…
Giving herself some mental courage in attempt to placate her scared friend, she finally answered, “I don’t know Junggie-ah.”
A few hours passed with them sitting in silence. Only the screeching and moans of creatures floated in from a grate in the wall. Every time one came close and made a noise, the three visibly flinch
