Guilty Pleasure
Seo Joohyun smile. The sun was out today illuminating the whole classroom through the windows and its warmth could be felt from her head to her toes. Today's lesson is extremely boring actually but she couldn’t hide her smile of feeling happy. Despite having been gone from Seoul in long one year-and it can be said that she left without a proper word, she's still feels at home. Lucky for her she didn’t become an outsider; a displaced person. because there was no one really new in Seoul and no one could really forget the bubbly, somewhat boisterous, high school queen, Seohyun. so she could breathe, for now.
“Well, thats it. You can leave a little early today, see you next Wednesday” the lecture ended the class and the student rushing, went out the classroom in their separate ways
“have you had lunch?” Kyuhyun asking Seohyun when he passes her desk
“I'll catch up” she replied simply as she bent over and pulled a binder out of a drawer in her desk and began tidying her things into her bag, trying to look as busier as ever. She knew without having to ask that Kyuhyun invited her to go to the cafeteria. She’d love to, messing around in the cafeteria with her friends ‘just like the old days’ she thought. But to walk alone with Kyuhyun beside her to the cafetaria? Well, she better go without a companion, just to avoid something undesirable
“well, okay” Kyuhyun frowned. He’s sure, Seohyun is trying to stay far from him, again. But he’s just walked of and leaving her alone in the classroom
“hey Kyu, over here!” Donghae raised his hand up high when he saw Kyuhyun making his way inside the cafeteria
“coming” he waved back
“Where’s Seohyun?” Sooyoung asked
“still in the classroom” Kyuhyun answered
“she’ll be here sooner or later” Yoona shrugged her shoulders “now have a seat, here” Yoona said, patting the bench beside her. She smiled and pecking Kyuhyun’s lips after he’d sit beside her, that was a little surprising kiss actually. Well, everyone knows Yoona is an avoiding-too-much-skinship type of girl and always shy to show her feelings and affection in front of her friends-that's why she was always hiding behind Seohyun's back. but lately, for some reason skinship between Kyuhyun and Yoona has become a regular-daily show for their friends
“I’ll lineup for the meals right now, like right now” she emphasizing “my stomach is growling” Sooyoung said chuckling as she stood up
“great idea” Donghae agreeing and rises from his chair
“I’ll go with you” Jessica added
And then they walked away to buy their lunch when most of the other student were still making their way toward the table and figuring out where to sit
“last night, that was a great party” Yoona said to Kyuhyun when they sat back in their place
“I thought you hate it. did you forget? I was ditching classes to go to the party, one thing you hate most” Kyuhyun said jokingly as he twirling the straw in his cappuccino
“I.. yes, initially” a paused “but Seohyun was there too, so I count it as a homecoming party for her, we never gave her one yet” she smile slightly
“Hey Seo, right here! I've booked your favorite unhealthy food for you” Sooyoung shouted from afar with her cheerful tone. Kyuhyun dropped his fingers from the straw and turn his face backward, he catch a glimpse of Seohyun inside the crowd being trotted toward Sooyoung. Yoona saw Kyuhyun staring at Seohyun with that rare stare she never get. And once again Seohyun become the limelight as each pair of eyes locks at her
“glad she’s finally here” Yoona said half-whispering
“you know, Queen Bees are all over my old school in New York whom I can’t be with, and I don’t wanna be with, so I always ended up sitting alone in the cafeteria. And now, here, with you and the others, I wish I’d been here over the past year” Seohyun said to Yoona, watching her smear the remains of her bagel with cream cheese and cucumber. She knew it was rude to eat before everyone was seated, but if was full, she couldn’t talk, and she really didn’t feel like talking.
“But I had a crazy year. I have the most insane stories to tell you” Yoona nodded and chewed her bagel slowly, like a cow chewing its cud. Seohyun waited for Yoona to ask her what kind of stories, but Yoona didn’t say anything, she just kept on chewing. She didn’t want to hear about all the fabulous things Seohyun had done while she was away when Yoona just had a normal, unfabulous life in Seoul. She doesn’t willing to admit that she's nothing without Seohyun. Yoona grabbed another roll and took a big bite.
Actually she’s also yearning for this kind of atmosphere, chatting with old friends, telling each other stories they had miss out, and laughing for nothing like they used to. She loves Seohyun, she misses Seohyun, but somehow something in her that Yoona couldn’t reach always managed to make her somewhat mad with anger envy
“so tell me what's going on between you and Kyuhyun this past year!” Seohyun said in teasingly tone, taking a risk. Seohyun didn’t really know what to talk about, she didn’t know what was going on in her friends’ lives throughout the past year. The one thing she knows is Kyuhyun and Yoona are still totally together “I bet you guys wind up married” Yoona gulped her drink, her little ruby ring rattling against the glass. She smashed a lump of cream cheese into her paper napkin with her thumb. When Kyuhyun just stared blankly at her, mouth silenced
“Yeah, I think so” Yoona slurred “right?” Yoona smiled broadly, turned her gaze to Kyuhyun who just gave her a slight smile and dropped his eyes back to the food in front of him right away
“ugh… why did it’s so hard just to get a food” Jessica grumbled, sitting at Seohyun’s left. The rest come after her and the chaos is here as always, the boys are playing around, poke fun at each other. Sooyoung, the mood booster always has this cute little gag that makes all of them laugh
“so, did you found some attractive guy in New York Seo? I’m sure you found one” Tiffany said, talking in flirtations tone
“yeah, I heard there’s so many good-looking guys you sure can't ignore” Sooyoung said
“nah… my school is an all-girls boarding school, So it was very rare for me to mingling and chumming with the boys”
“ey… no way” Sooyoung denying “I’m sure there are a hundred boys line up for you”
“but it’s true, the only man I know in New York is my apartment’s doorman” Seohyun said, self-defense “and I'm too lazy to look for one”
“lier”
“I’m not. Really, I swear…”
“so tragic” Sooyoung faking a pity face
“don’t worry. I believe you’ll find one here, soon. I tell you, korean boys are better, they’re nothing compared to us” Changmin said proudly
Seohyun had the tables attention, she kept her audience captive with stories of her life in New York and everybody fall into a table talk except Kyuhyun dan Yoona, Kyuhyun, he’s seems like spacing out leaving his real world behind. And Yoona, she just heaped her plate high with food and attacked it again as if she hadn’t eaten in weeks. She didn’t care if she made herself sick, as long as she didn’t have to make a conversation with Seohyun and talking about her wonderful, fabulous year in New York.
Seohyun’s smile faded when she saw the couple, she's notice Kyuhyun's uncomfortable silence. She's sighed, she turn her eyes to the left and watched the low-fat meals come into Jessica’s mouth. and thought of the unforgotten night once more. Maybe Yoona does know, she thought. Seohyun glanced at Kyuhyun, Right in front of her, but he was busy twirling the straw in his cappuccino. Kyuhyun told her he had accidentally split their little secret in front of Donghae, Jessica and Changmin’s faces. She's okay with Donghae and Changmin, but what about Jessica? she wasn't exactly good at keeping secrets. was that what this was all about? Was that why Yoona was acting so weird? maybe she puts on a smile right now, but Seohyun knew she’s faking it.
“Do you have another classes Kyu?” after a long mouth-silenced Yoona finally speak
“huh?” it takes a seconds for Kyuhyun to back to his life “ah ... no” he replied
“can you drive me home?”
“okay …” he replied simply
“well, I have a test tomorrow, so I’d better go home now” Yoona said
“since when did Im Yoona started studying?” Sooyoung said jokingly
“shut up…” she smile slightly. she rises from her chair, ready to leave Kyuhyun were getting ready to leave, too.
“so guys… see you tomorrow” Yoona said and drag Kyuhyun along with her like he had no choice. Kyuhyun steal a last glance to Seohyun and then they walked away.
“when you guys are get together like just now, that was so awkward, you know” Changmin blurted out. Donghae nudging his friends arm and Changmin shut his mouth right away as every pairs of eyes stared at him
“Awkward? who?” Sooyoung asked, clueless
“ah… ehmm…” lost for words
“on the face of it, what he means is, when we’re all get together like this, it's kind of awkward. You know, we’re all just too busy for one another these days, so we can barely notice the fun we’re suppose to be having, there is no time for community. plus Seohyun is back home now so it's kind of awkward when we finally had the chance to come together, right Cwang?” such a confusing speech, with his fakest smile ever Donghae just blurted out every single words in his blank brain, saving the hasty situation
“yeah… exactly. but don’t worry I soon will get used to this atmosphere again” he’s forced a smile “you know what I mean?” Luckily Sooyoung just nodded and agreed every single word that comes out of Donghae and her boyfriend’s mouth. Crap, that was close.
“watch you mouth” Donghae mouthing
“Hey Donghae! walking alone? might if I join?” Donghae heard a familiar silvery voice of his friend. Seohyun came over him after their daily twenty-minute break is over. as he said earlier, they are too busy for one another, so they were leave-taking right after the lunch time is over
“oh hey Seo” Donghae smiled, craned his head backward and was greeted by Seohyun’s demure, crazed slight smile every boy wants. even Donghae had no choice but charmed by it.
“uhm…” Donghae his neck the way he always did when he was feeling awkward. There was an awkward moment when there just only the two of them, at least his words he had said earlier just have a point
“it’s kinda awkward, right?” Seohyun smiled slyly
“Not really actually. But you know I always act clumsy with peoples I just met. so yeah…” Donghae said scratching her brown hair. Other than Yoona, Donghae also feel uncomfortable around her? Why everybody was being boring. When were they going to start having fun?
“please don’t be. I’m not peoples, I’m me. And It's not like we just met, I only gone for one year, short of. So I hope we can be friends and get close like we used to” Seohyun said
“of course, who's say we aren’t friends now?” he gave her a smile
“glad to hear that” she smiled, a paused “uhm… by the way thank you. you saved me, that was so close” she said wobbly, Donghae raised an eyebrow
“so, you does know?” she bit her bottom lip. taking a risk, she bring up the avoided topic. Because she sure that’s the only reason why is Donghae acting weird
“about what?” avoiding the topic, he pretended to know nothing
“Come on, don’t act like you don’t know” she nudged Donghae with her elbow playfully tried to act as normal as she can
“look Seo, I know you're smart enough to not spit, you know your little secret. So if I were you I wouldn’t even say anything to someone you know he knows something. Just keep your mouth shut and act like nothing. don’t ever bring the topic up if you don’t want anything bad happens. Okay?”
“Thank you, for keeping my secret.. our secret correctly” her voice is barely a whisper
“never mind. What are friends for”
“hey let’s get some talks at my room, okay?” Yoona offered, right after they reached the door house
“Are you sure it’s okay?” he said “I thought there’s a test tomorrow” he added
“its just 3 pm now, i still have plenty of time” she replied “My parents are going away. And I really want you to stop by” she said with her flattery voice
“come on” Yoona walked in, tagged Kyuhyun along. had no choice he just followed her into the stairs and up to Yoona’s second-floor room.
Kyuhyun gulped his drink Yonna have been prepared and sat down on the end of Yoona’s bed. Unplanned Yoona suddenly sat down in Kyuhyun’s lap, curled her hands around his neck
“Yong” Kyuhyun warned. Swear to God, he knows her for his entire life yet this is the first time she's acting weird
“What? I’m just sitting in your lap, and I’m your girlfriend is it wrong?” Yoona said innocently
“I—“ he was about to say something when Yoona cutted his off with a kiss, an unexpected kiss. Her warm soft lips landed at his, it caressed his lips with the affection she have right now.
“Yong…” Kyuhyun said, gasping for air. Kyuhyun responded to her kissed by kissing her back, wrapping and traveling his arms around her tiny waist. he kissed her. And once he started, he couldn’t stop. Of course, She was a girl and he was a boy, he couldn’t help it but welcomed her whole heartedly. Yoona giggled, as Kyuhyun falling back on the bed and closing his eyes, tasted any sweet sense in Yoona’s lips.
She had managed to get his shirt off, likewise with hers. and now they were lying down on her bed on top of the covers. They’d been fooling around for almost an hour. But then again, like a flashing light, he saw Seohyun's face and her little mischievous smile in his mind. He tried not to think of her, he tried to throw the memory out of his mind but it always came up and their dirty little secret haunts him as he recalling the remains memory. Yoona was about to pull off the remaining cloth that covered her body when Kyuhyun stopped her turned his head away and stopped the kiss afraid to lead her on in case she took it too far. He sat up and ran his hands through his hair
“I can’t do this” he muttered under his breath
“what?” Yoona said, sitting up too “what’s wrong?” her heart fell
“I—I really don’t feel so well” he said. Kyuhyun reached down and gathered up the edges of the quilt. He draped one end around Yoona’s bare shoulders
“do you mind if we just hang out on the couch and watch movie” Kyuhyun offered. he cleared his throat and looked down. It didn’t seem right to do this thing when his mind is somewhere else
“I know the timing wasn’t right, I guess. But I just wanted to tell you that I’m ready to do it. I wasn’t ready before, but now I am”
“no, you don’t” he replied simply
“How can you be that sure?”
“Look, I know what I did last summer leaving you a scar. Do you think I’m going to leave you because I wasn’t willing to wait? But did you forget? I said, I'm willing to wait for you even if it would take forever, I’m willing to wait as long as it takes. That’s my promise” He took a deep breath and blew the breath out “so stop acting silly” he said jokingly Yoona’s hair playfully
“sorry…” she looked down “but promise me, you won’t leave me just because I wasn’t ready”
“promise me too you won’t do that thing when you wasn’t ready” Kyuhyun said took Yoona’s hand again
“promise…” but still he can’t take Seohyun's face off of his mind.
be careful, never take a solemn oath. People will think you mean it when you really don’t.
plus promises and pie-crust are made to be broken.
If he is who he was, he might fall head over heels with her temptation, his heart would beating fast; running through its unusual beat and today for sure will become their unforgettable, special day. But he isn’t who he was, his heart wasn’t beating that fast when she come closer, he can’t felt the urge to making love, even cuddling a little longer with her. Where’s the butterflies which always traveling and wandering around his stomach when she was around go? It's all gone along with his feelings?
“! he’s right…” Kyuhyun mumbled silently to himself as Donghae’s words were ringing in his ears. He was wrong for these past years. No matter how hard he refused. Seohyun has a big point in his life, she affect him a lot, had had it, in fact for years
“argh…” he groaned
He was walking in the path of nowhere. He just let his feet take him wherever it may. Surprisingly it took him to his special place near the city, it’s Seohyun’s special place actually. whenever he needed some time alone then he’ll go to this place. basking under the warm sun, sniffing the fresh air under the shade trees, staring at the wide meadow laid out in front of his eyes, nice weather and nice view, what a good timing for sheltering.
And what even more surprising is Kyuhyun saw the familiar figure. Her tawny hair loose to roam in the middle of summer breeze, it flowed in waves to adorn her glowing, porcelain-like skin. She was sitting alone at one of the benches with a cup of hot chocolate in her hands. She seems like spacing out starring at nowhere.
“Seohyun?” Kyuhyun called her. Startled, she turned her head and was greet by Kyuhyun’s shocking face
“what are you doing here?” Kyuhyun asked
“I just… don’t know where have to go, so I ended up staying here, alone. Since everybody is busy with their own” she said “and what are you doing here?” she asked back
“well… I need some time alone. And it’s the one place I can think… so…” he shrugged his shoulder “mind if I join?” he added
“welcome…” she reply with a smile
Some say love is a river, some says love's a silly song. Some say love is all around us. It lifts us up where we belong. Some say love is hearing laughter in the rain. Some say love is a secret you keep sealed. But on this cruel world of his, love is absolutely puzzling
But if two people were really meant to be together, eventually they'll find their way back.
