Show Luo- Touch My Heart

-------------------

Haewon and her aunt settled into a small, neat condo accommodated by her new company she was working for. After moving in the first day, they went to visit her new work on the second day. Haewon wanted to stay home, but Inhee persuaded her to get some fresh air.

Begrudgingly, Haewon followed. She was holding tightly onto the Rubik’s Cube for comfort.

“Wow, this building is so amazing. I can’t believe I’m going to work here!” Inhee squealed happily. “Feel the building, Wonnie. Wu Fashion Inc. will be where I will grow as a fashion designer. Just you watch, sweetheart! Your aunt is going to be famous!” She dragged her niece inside the building and flashed her papers at the rigid security guard.

They entered the elevator and went to the very top floor where the CEO’s office was located. There were two secretaries who greeted them. One was Canadian, and the other was Korean.

“Hello. May I help you?” The Korean secretary asked.

“Yes, I am here to meet with Mrs. Wu. I am her new employee.” Inhee flashed a bright smile.

“I’ll notify Mrs. Wu that you are here. Would you like some tea or juice while you wait?” The secretary asked.

“I’m fine, but can my niece have some juice?” Inhee asked. “Of course.” The secretary left.

“Sit here, Haewon.” Inhee led her to the vinyl seat, and Haewon sat down. She wondered what the office looked like. What would it be like to be able to work at such a high-class business like this one?

“Here is your juice.” The secretary set the glass down in front of her. “Thank you.” Haewon reached out and took a sip.

Inhee looked in her compact mirror and fixed her foundation. “I hope I don’t mess up in there. Goodness, I have dark circles under my eyes. I knew I should have done a massage pack or something last night.”

Haewon softened. She didn’t realize how much her aunt was anticipating this job. She should be supportive instead of sulking. Her aunt had done so much for her, and Haewon had no right to be selfish. “I’m sure you’ll do fine, auntie. Everyone says your designs are the best.”

Inhee smiled, overjoyed by her encouragment, “Thank you, Wonnie. Your support means the world to me.” Haewon gave her a small smile.

“Miss Inhee Cho? Mrs. Wu will see you now.” The secretary said.

“Wish me luck!” Inhee grabbed her portfolio. “Good luck.” Haewon whispered.

“Wait here. I’ll be out soon!” Inhee squeezed her arm and hurried into the office.

Haewon sighed. She didn’t have to put up a cheerful façade if her aunt wasn’t here. Haewon the cube with a melancholy expression. *I wonder what Luhan oppa is doing now. It’s been more than a day since I have been with him. I miss him so much already.*

In order not to cry in public, she put all her concentration on solving the mysterious words on the Rubik’s Cube.

Half an hour passed, and her aunt was still not out. Haewon stood up and felt her way to the desk. “Excuse me.”

“Yes?” The secretary responded.

“May I know where the restroom is?” Haewon asked.

“Down the hallway, take a left turn. The restroom will be at the the third door to your left.” The secretary paused, realizing the girl was blind. “Would you like me to you?”

Haewon shook her head. “I got it. Thank you.” She braced her hand against the wall and began to feel her way towards the restroom. *Down the hall, take a left. Third door to my left.* Haewon used her instincts and powerful memory to remember how many steps it took. At last, she reached the bathroom and went into one of the stalls. She heard a few female voices and knew she had come to the right place.

After washing her hands, she picked up the Rubik’s cube and made her way back towards the office. *I hope auntie isn’t looking for me. She’ll panic once she knows I’m gone.* Haewon quickened her pace. She turned the corner and ran right into someone. They both fell onto the ground, and her Rubik’s Cube slid away from her grasp.

“Ow, .” A male voice moaned.

Kris Wu rubbed his sore elbow and looked up to see a girl- a very pretty girl- sitting just a couple feet away with a bewildered expression on her face. *Who is she? A new employee? I’ve never seen her before.*

*My cube. Luhan oppa’s gift to me. Where did it go? Oh, no.* Haewon began to panic. She got on her knees and felt the ground for the cube. *Where is it?! Where did it go?!*

Kris looked at her in puzzlement. *What is she doing?* He looked around his vicinity and spotted a Rubik’s Cube. Kris picked it up and walked over to her. He bent down and held the object out. “Is this what you’re looking for?” Kris asked in English.

Haewon froze like an ice sculpture. She had no idea what the strange male was saying.

He pushed the cube towards her further. “Is this yours?” Gulping, she felt the air until her hand rested on top of his.

Kris stopped, and his eyes grew wider. For some reason, his heart did a mad flip in his chest. He had never reacted that way with anyone else’s touch before. Kris stared at the girl in wonder. Haewon felt the cube in his palm and brightened. She snatched it away from him and protectively held it against her chest.

“I-I’m sorry.” Haewon apologized feebly in her inadequate English and stumbled away from him.

Kris stood up and watched as she hurried away from him like he was a serial killer. He raised an eyebrow with a widening smile. “She’s walking like she’s drunk. Huh. That was interesting.” Kris slung his duffel bag over his shoulder and walked away while whistling. *Ke-ai girl.*

Haewon arrived at the office and sank back into her seat. She made sure the cube was still in her grasp and hugged it tightly. *I thought I lost you.*

The door opened, and Inhee came back out with a big smile on her face. “Everything went well, Haewon! You ready to go home?”

She nodded eagerly. “Yes, let’s go home.”

----

Summer passed by slowly.

To Haewon, it felt like the minute hand wasn’t moving at all. Without Luhan to save her, she felt like she was stuck in the same, lonely moment. It was even worse because there was no way she could communicate with Luhan. Talking through the phone wasn’t an option because he could not hear her. E-mailing wasn’t a
