Secret Garden OST- Guardian Angel

-----------

After a tearful goodbye, Haewon and Inhee were separated. Her aunt promised to keep in touch and come back with lots of money.

Haewon stood by the entrance, staring off into the darkness. She didn’t know whether her aunt was gone yet.

A gentle hand rested on her shoulder. “Come along, Haewon. I’ll show you to your new room. Since you’re one of the older ones, you will get your new room.”

Director Nam led her towards the dormitory. He placed her luggage on the bed and gave her some privacy to settle in.

Haewon heard the door shut. Then everything was dead silent, and she knew she was alone. With a worn sigh, Haewon sank onto the floor. She rested her head on the mattress and just breathed. She was in a whole new setting with people she had no previous connections with.

What would the rest of the students would be like? Would they get along?

What was in store for her in the future? Would she ever regain her happiness?

Haewon hugged her knees to her chest and hummed a lullaby her father used to sing to her when she was little. Comfort washed over her, and she salvaged the remaining bits of courage she had left in her heart.

----------------

Director Nam found Luhan in the art room. He watched from afar as Luhan created long, blue on the paper. He cleaned the brush with water, dipped the brush in green paint, and drew green streaks on the paper. Director Nam tilted his head with a doting smile. L

uhan had amazing focus and great artistic abilities. Besides the fact that he was deaf, he could do anything.

Director Nam walked towards him and tapped his shoulder.

Luhan stopped painting and turned around. Immediately, he put the brush down. “Director.” Luhan glanced back for any signs of the new girl.

“She’s settling in.” Director Nam signed.

*I see.* Luhan nodded. “Is she a permanent student?”

“I hope she will be.” Director Nam replied.

Luhan touched the easel as his mind wandered away. *A new girl. Cho Haewon. What kind of a girl is she? Is she vulnerable, yet sweet? Or is she strong, yet yearning for someone to open up to? Or is she all of them…like me?* Again, the words wo de xin hao leng revolved around his mine.

Luhan felt a tap on his arm and looked up.

“Luhan…Haewon is part of our family now. She can’t see, and she has painful cuts in her past like everyone else here does. She got into an accident and lost her vision. In the process, she also lost her parents.” Director Nam revealed.

His expression softened. *She lost so much at once. It must have been hard for her.*

“Be good to her. She needs love, just like you and everyone else here. Do you think you can do that for me?” Director Nam asked. Luhan slowly nodded.

Director Nam placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled gently. “I still remember the day I found you, Luhan. I was on a mission in China. You were sitting at the front step of my hotel with nothing but a Rubik’s Cube in your possession.”

Luhan looked downwards. He remembered that day clearly. He was only ten back then. His parents had abandoned him long ago. He had been scavenging for a way to survive. He ate leftover food from garbage cans and slept in dark alleys where no one could find him. It had been a terrible, lonely life…until Director Nam had found him. Without a word, the man had kindly taken off his coat and put it around Luhan’s shoulders. That was the gesture of kindness that changed his life forever.

When Director Nam had asked him to go back to Korea with him, Luhan agreed without hesitation.

“You are like my son, Luhan. I started this institution because of you. I wanted to help more children out there that were like you. Haewon is one of those children. She has been affected by a permanent disability but that doesn’t mean she can’t live without hope, right?”

Luhan nodded in agreement.

“Good. I trust in you.” Director Nam patted his shoulder and left him to think alone.

Luhan sat back on the stool. He gazed at his unfinished painting. Luhan pulled out the brush out of the water and dunked it into a can of red paint. With one long , his cold painting was filled with brightness.

*Cho Haewon.* Her name became embedded in his mind.

---------

Tires screeched.

“Honey, watch out!”

“Dad! Mom!”

“Haewon-ah!”

The van rolled down the snow-covered mountains.

Glasses shattered. Bodies tumbled.

The vehicle flipped and finally came to a stop.

Silence.

Cold. White.

“Mom…”

Red. Warm.

“Dad…”

Pain. Black.

Shadows began to cloud her vision, and her world of colors suddenly turned black-and-white.

And then darkness.

Nothing but darkness.

“NO! MOM! DAD!” Haewon jolted up in bed. She opened her eyes widely but could witness nothing but the pitch-black darkness that was now, and would most likely forever, be her world. *It was just a dream. It was a nightmare…of that day.* Haewon shuddered. She had these horrifying dreams frequently, mostly when she was under a lot of stress.

Haewon touched her shirt. It was soaked with sweat.

Haggardly, she made her way over to the closet. She felt the fabric of each top before pulling out a warm knit sweater. Haewon stripped off her damp shirt and wore the dry sweater instead. She climbed back into bed but could not fall back asleep. She didn’t want to admit it, but she was scared. She was afraid of the future. She was afraid of approaching people again. *I miss my auntie. She called me twice earlier. I wonder if she would mind if I call her now. No, I can’t look w
