Chapter 1

The Chaser

"Unnie! I'm here," I said as I busted into the room carrying my backpack.

Unnie looked up at me and smiled as she was washing the client's hair, so I just continued my rant, "Miahne. My last prof was such an . I swear, isn't there some sort of code of conduct when teachers give out homework to students? I think he believes I'm only attending his class for the semester. I'm sorry to disappoint, but like other students, I have 8 other classes I need to ace this sem. God, did you forget to bestow upon my professors the gift of patience, understanding and consideration?"

I saw Unnie starting to rinse the client's hair so I picked up the towel on the table and positioned myself on the other side of the client.

He looked up at me and I nodded at him as a greeting.

"You know, instead of working right now, you could actually be studying, right? I could just sign your log sheet and send a letter of employment to your school tomorrow and you don't have to actually work," Unnie said as I wrapped the client's hair in the towel and led him to the chair.

"I know, I know. You and my brother always say you have my back. Call me old-fashioned, but I actually like earning my keep, you know? And plus, working for you is practically a favor to me-- you pay me and you feed me," I grinned at her.

I looked at the client using the mirror, "So are we coloring this today?"

He opened his mouth to say something, but unnie was quicker, "Oh, no. Sorry, it slipped my mind. He's just in for a styling."

            "Oh," I said and shrugged.

I made my way to the chair beside the client and swiveled it so that I was facing Unnie. I wasn't about to style someone's hair when the city's best stylist was in the same room with me.

I watched Unnie as she styled his hair. Damn. My sister-in-law definitely has skills.

"So anyway, I'm not about to make you work your required 30 hours this semester, when you need to be studying," she told me as she was carefully using to flat iron to make waves in the man's hair. Yes, a flat iron to make WAVES.

            "Unnie," I started to whine.

Her eyes flickered to me then back at her task, "I'm gonna ask you to work maybe around 5 jobs max during your semester, but I'll sign your logsheet saying you worked 30 hours. In return, you'll just have to work the rest of your hours during your sembreak. So technically, you're still earning your keep."

Why does she have to be so reasonable? I really don't like it when I feel like I'm taking advantage of someone's kindness.

I sighed, "Lemme guess. Jonghoon already signed off on this idea."

I smile crept up her lips, "Actually, this specific idea was a team effort. It took us a week to come up with this."

I could already see her victorious smile.

"By the way, why do you call me 'unnie', but call your older brother by his name?" she asked.

"Easy. You deserve the respect that comes with the title of 'unnie'... He--he-- let's just say I see him more of a dongsaeng rather than an 'oppa'," I smiled at her.

She just smiled and shook her head, clearly understanding my words.

She finished the guy's hair and I looked at it with wide eyes.

I got off my chair and squatted beside the man and turned his chair so that he was facing me. I tilted his chin upward, then downward, then side to side.

            "Unnie, daebak," I awed.

            The guy cleared his throat.

Oh. Awkward situation I put myself in.

I quickly got up and made a 90 degree bow saying, "Miahnhaminda."

I faced unnie, "Is this your last client?"

She shook her head, then nodded, then shook her head again..

            Okay mixed signals, much?

"Technically, he's my only client tonight, but the job's not done yet, I have to put make up on him on location," she explained.

            "Location?" I asked.

"Well. Damn. I really am losing it, aren't I?" She asked, more to herself than me or the man.

"This is Kim Sunggyu, he's the leader of INFINITE, an idol group, but he's preparing for a special solo stage tonight, and I was hired to be his stylist. Kim Sunggyu, this is my sister-in-law, Eunji," she introduced us.

I smiled and shot out my hand for a handshake, but he just looked at me with a confused look. Oh, right. He's an idol. Prolly a narc or something.

Luckily, my phone started ringing. I looked at the caller ID. "RUN FOR THE HILLS, HOON"

"Unnie, your husband is calling me," I said and handed her my phone.

While she started talking to Hoon, I started packing the make-up kit for her. Okay, primer, foundation, blush, bronzer, eyeliner, eye shadow, concealer, lipsti---

"I don't think I'm gonna need that later," I heard a voice behind me say.

"Unnie does magic with this stuff, and plus there might be a girl dancer we'll have to put make-up on there," I stated and put the lipstick in the kit.

He leaned on the table so that he was now facing me, "Look, I'm sorry I didn't shake your hand earlier that was really rude of me."

I shrugged, "It's really not that big of a deal."

"Regardless, it was still rude. I was just confused why you weren't squealing when you found out who I was."

            I smirked, "Confident much?"

"That did not come out like I wanted to," he said, smiling sheepishly.

            I laughed a little bit.

"I'm just so used to girls shouting and shrieking when they see me," he added.

"Bro, you're digging yourself a deeper grave," I joked.

He opened his mouth and then closed his mouth again.

I sighed, "Fine, if my opinion matters so much to you... Wanna restart?"

He gave me a smile, "That'd be great."

            "Annyong, Eunji-imnida," I said.

"Kim Sunggyu-imnida," he replied with a smile.
